As a device for extracting cash out of people going into the movies, Star Wars Force Awakens was a resounding success. Good for you Disney.
As a movie to stand on its own, it was not great. All the old and new, women leads and the black guy in the white man's army aside.

This new one might be more interesting though. Maybe a little more grit, and less space for a terrible plot in what looks more like a military movie type affair. I'm cautiously expectant.

The directors track record isn't overwhelmingly promising, but maybe he won't mangle scifi as badly as Abrams.

Hate what they are doing with this. It looks like Hunger Games Mockingjay 2.0.

I don't mind a female lead. But they all end up exactly the same these days. Everything about this trailer looks like a copy and paste from the Hunger Games. All they need is a crowd chanting a song and they've got it.

I think they've gone on record saying that this spin off would be darker and grittier, a little more "realistic" since it  wouldn't include jedi and sith running around everywhere. Instead it focuses on the "common" soldier, and some are saying it is more like a modern military action/thriller movie than it is a classic Star Wars, in both tone and plot. Some people are noticeably stoked to see what they can do with this, cuz dark and gritty is that peeps want nowadays after watching them Nolan Batman flicks. God forbid a movie be a little more lighthearted and simply fun to watch nowadays!

Looks fine. Wasn't too impressed by Force Awakens, and though this looks slightly more interesting (supposedly grittier etc), I very much doubt it's going to veer too far off from the beaten star wars path Disney have laid out.

The Force Awakens is on the same level as Disney cartoons. Childish all around and very light-hearted. That's why a lot of people didn't like TFA: when they watched the other Star Wars movies, they were a lot younger, and so they loved those. But now that they're grown up, things are different. People who loved the Lion King as kids would most likely dislike a remake that was as cartoony, too.

So I thought TFA was shit, but that's because I like darker/more mature sci-fi. It was a good "Star Wars" movie, I guess. And sci-fi doesn't have to be serious to not be childish; look at Firefly for example, an extremely funny series and then a movie, but not childish at all.

Good thing http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2261227/ this is coming, going to be the best thing to ever grace TV.

Might be true as well, but tell me Donnie Yen wouldn't make a kick ass Jedi Master

And I think there is gonna be at least one Jedi in the movie, since they are the most iconic thing about Star Wars and Disney knows that.

So after watching the trailer again he is beating up stormtroopers so he must be on the good side. And listening to Forests dialogue it seems he is too.

Edwards has described the film as a grounded, war-based movie, one in which normal people have to come together to fight the Empire as opposed to relying on the Jedi or the Force.

Rebels but not Jedis. Unless Edwards changed his mind after Disney used force persuasion on him. Hope that's not the case, this is supposed to be "indie" SW spin-off not your typical blockbuster SW episode.

The NEW BIGGER PLANET-SIZED DEATH STAR was very original and creative, I especially liked that the one thing that was different about it from the other TWO (aside from size) was that it sucked up actual stars to make it's super laser thing.

Force Awakens was more a caricature of A New Hope than anything else. Like a campy fan tribute. The Thrawn Trilogy + Expanded Universe in general was a much better spiritual successor to the originals imo tbh fam.
Maybe you are not bad, but you are a boring person. Well, that's the end of the matter.
