Why cant I attack?

Okay so I tried to attack someone (and it worked) but I accidentally clicked "cancel battle".

Now I lost some troops from that (although the battle didnt happen) which doesnt make sense to me but yea whatever.

Well seeing as I actually -did- want that battle and as my target has lots of crates, is unarmed and is still not that much numerically superior than me (it was 49 vs 49 before, after the cancelled attack its 39 vs 56) I am trying to attack him again but for some reason it wont let me!

So I am practically next to him (11m) but it just doesnt initiate the attack.

The botched attack was at 12:46 GMT and now its 15:24 and it still wont let me attack!?!?!

Is it a bug or something? I had heard that there is a cool down between battles but how long is that and whats the point? I havent seen it for fiefs for example!

I also may be a bit thick but can I ask what was that put in place to stop? I mean what kind of abuse was it designed against?

It stops endless attack / cancel waves to keep someone from moving.

I can understand endless... I can understand a short time sure...

But a day?

I mean wouldnt a couple of hours or even 4-5 hours be enough?

In the end I lost my slow moving overbeared target cause of this...

And if its for delaying reasons... well already we have the fact that you can only attack if you have at least 1/3rd of your targets men (so you cant go harassing a 2000 man army with 100 guys though this is crazy at is... skirmishes were always a tactic in middle ages).

Then you have the fact that when you cancel the attack you already lose some of your troops!

I tryed to attack the same person as Arcona did, but i could not do it.
So even someone else can not attack a defending player after a cancelled atack for a day.

You know, this can be easly abused, just have a clan member attack your caravan and then cancel.
You got a free day to travel, nice.

Hmm, interresting, could be the ultimate caravan guarding service, no need to protect varavan you just have to attack/cancel every 24h and you travel safe!

Thats why I was saying that perhaps 1-2-3 hours could be enough but 24 hours? Thats too long and it creates an awesome defense strategy for caravan protection...

Wait, is the defender actually mobile after an attack is cancelled? If he can move around without anybody being able to attack him, there's an incredibly obvious exploit. An exploit which will only be solved after it's mentioned 3 times in the Strategus issues forum and then somebody gets fed up and abuses it since nothing is being done about it only to face retribution in the form of flying carpets and boomsticks.
