General Off Topic / Ghost Recon Online -- more 3rd person gaming
« on: March 14, 2012, 04:34:41 pm »
I have been playing the hell out of the closed beta for GR Online, so I made a short clip:

Ghost Recon Online Beta : recon/sniper
watch it in 1080p

I would am a a pretty hardcore FPS guy, so I usually wouldnt give a 3rd person shooter a second glance (excepting crpg, which isnt a shooter.... it's a stabbie.  sorta).  But, this is actually a really fun game.  It's pretty well thought out, and the classes are fairly well balanced.

I enjoyed the overall gameplay, and the matching system is pretty good.  It is sort of like how the que for HON works, if anyone plays that.

Well, take a look....  and try it out when it gets released.  its F2P, but nothing that lamers can buy really makes a difference (and you can earn it all in the same amount of time anyhow).  When one bullet can kill, dollar bills still dont make up for skill.  strait up.

On another note, just finished "The White Luck Warrior" by R. Scott Bakker.  Second book in the Aspect Emperor series.  It gets epic in this book, and was totally exciting pretty much the whole time.  That kind of unusual for this story arc (if you include the Prince of Nothing trilogy as part of the saga.... its all the same story).  I love the rich cannon he has created for this world, and I hope he finishes well.

I think he really knows how to develope characters very well, and he stays very consistant with the rules he makes for each of his story worlds.  I just think he writes very good sci-fi in general.  His ideas on space combat and nano-tech are awesome, and he tends to take it as far as he thinks the technology can go, unlike most authors who only create tech in their settings with a very limited scope.

Dont get me wrong.... I love the guy.  You happen to be reading the first of two of my absolute favorites (hamilton books).

Atm, reading Pandora's Star by Peter F. Hamilton. It's big. And pretty good so far.

Pandora Star was one of his best, and Judas Unchained has an awesome ending.  So you will like that arc, but most of Hamiltons stories have terrible endings.  I LOVED the Neutronium Alchemist series until the last 100 pages or so..... meh.  He is a great author though.

your spelling is atrocious.  But it means cute.  it's pronounced ka-why-ee, as opposed to ka-why (still phonetic) which means scary.

I learned these things from my ex-gf when I was stationed in Japan.  So I dont know if that counts.

Dont mistake it for Kauai, which is an island in Hawaii and is pronouced exactly the same.

It's a free market.  You cant tell the seller what their point is worth to them.  You can only do so by not purchasing until a price becomes reasonable for you.  No one should be forcing any market values big brother style.

I like my sidewinder X6.  I have had it for about 3 years now.  I have abused the hell out of it, and it is still in great condition.  There are also a lot of cool features built into the board, like macro programming and such.  I have definately gotten my moneys worth out of it.

Oh, and I really liked the fact that the number-pad is magnetically connected.  When I am not using it I get it off my desk.  and you can put it on either side of the keyboard, making it an instant macro pad.  its cool.

General Off Topic / Re: How big is your computer mouse?
« on: September 05, 2011, 05:11:02 am »
Lotta people using the same mouse in here!

I use something totally different.  and both of them are pretty big, which is good for me because I have large hands.  I find most of the mice linked on this thread uncomfortable, as I have to squish my hands up to use them.
I like these mice because they rest in the palm of my hand, and I can use all of my fingers effectively and comfortably.

Had some fun with cav last week.  Overall, its harder than it looks.  And I think playing mele is easier.  BUt it is a lot of fun to criuse around and run over unaware players with a lance.

This move back to chicago sucks.
I was really looking forward to those ofiicials coming back on line, seeing as the Dallas server gave me a sub 30 ping from San Diego.
Oh well.  The week that they were up was actually a really fun experience with the low latency.
Back to 80 ping in Chicago, I guess.

You guys do realize that people pretty much abandoned the chicago servers to play on the Official NA ones when they were in Dallas.... right?  just saying....
