there's not THE best archer, there's always a handful of names which is at the very top

like bagge, algarn, blackbow, johanE and probably 2-3 names I'm forgetting atm

a bunch of talented guys out there,  but bagge was the greatest bugger for sure.  the combo of melee + ranged that the guy could bring to the table... uhg.

I have considerable experience at being shot at.  The two archers that bother me the most are Trueshot and Sexy Furry.  Bariz and Zlotz also have their moments.

Prolly before any of your noobs time their was a clan called Fallen and 1 of their leaders when they were a big NA clan was Fallen_Loki and he was an amazing archer but I have not seen him play in perhaps 4 years +

Were talking like the start of CRPG times before all this pink arrows and aim hacking was around

No one remembers a guy called Zero? Him and Bagge were the best during that timeline. After than there were more good archers and they've all been mentioned it seems.

Somewhere in late 2013 it even came to the point that I just begged him to stop shooting me, and he generously agreed ^_^ I think it was the most profitable brocoding for me and was like the only reason why I was closer to the top of the scoreboards so often :mrgreen:
And btw he has decent melee skills as well (with any weapon basically, no matter if 1h or polearms), and I really enjoyed to duel against his melee alts at EU3.

The fact that his melee skills were actually ONLY "decent" makes it even worse tbh. That means he got all his kills from ranged, unlike Algarn who pretty much ruled most melee duels in his secondary mod.

No, in fact he is a really good melee fighter, but sadly his melee skills were plagued with his permanent problems with the ping, which was floating around 80-110. Despite that I'm dare to say that he is the best russian melee player in this mod (yes i heard people praised skills of guys like KpuBopy4ka or Goodrock but I never really saw anything too special about them, sorry :oops:). It's just my opinion. He had really intelligent and tricky style, was able to perform succesful chamber attacks, despite his ping problems, was good with kicks and so on. But yes, on his archer chars he had less melee potential than on his duelling alts. But on EU3 he was really good at duelling with pretty much every weapon, and that's what I meant.

Eldar is really good at melee. Last time I played he had better connection than usual (200-250 ping which often spikes to 400 ping) and was playing on melee alt wrecking the server.

Many Russian players are playing on shared connections, from college dorm, which by definition means unstable connection not suitable for online gaming. High ping is less than an issue, you can get used to high latency if it remains stable, actually it is possible with training to adjust your play style to latency if it remained stable. Which usually doesn't because cheap cRPG servers historically had routing issues unless you lived close to server locations. I used to have incredible issues with EU servers  but not often and most of the time my ISP was a little bitch when it came to routing traffic to NA servers.

For smooth online experience you need around 30 ping or lower without jitter and that in cRPG was only available to north western Europe.  Cologne residents in particular had most stable connection to cRPG servers. Players from Italy, Portugal, Spain and Greece had massive connection issues in cRPG.

Kpu was better in melee than Eldar. Not saying Eldar was bad though. He was very good as well.

bagge, zerobot, scor and nebun the best archers. Birdman for nostalgia.

How to become a good archer? Put bow and arrows in your weapon slots. Done.

I remember when Chase was ripping server a new one as an archer. I've tried archer couple of times, was horribly bad most of the time but once had decent PD7 build, it was actually pretty damn great. Tincans were extremely easy to dispose. That was before all these nerfs that happened. If you have someone to escort you, you can go full retard high PD archer and annoy server to no end. Like ROBINHOOD does with his buddy.

Archery in Warband is cheat mode especially in native. For balance sake first person view should be forced on them but that would make it unbearable. Third person view makes archery extremely easy thing to do.

But archers at least have some decency about them, which can't be said about xbowmen...

Archer + xbow nests on strategus siege gave me cancer.
