Title: Stellaris

Stellaris is a sci-fi grand strategy game set 200 years into the future. It is developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive. If you are familiar with Crusader Kings 2 and Europa Universalis 3 and 4, this new game takes elements of both games, as well as many space 4X games (master of orion/sins of a solar empire/etc) and combines them together.

The official game wiki has alot of information about how the game works:
http://www.stellariswiki.com/

If you want to see gameplay here is a video of Wiz (the Developer in charge of the games AI) and cKnoor (one of their Community outreach people aka PR) playing as the Blorg Commonality from the very beginning of the game.

I've been looking forward to this game from the very moment they announced it, as the space 4X genre has been dead for years. It is now up for pre-order on steam if you are into that sort of thing.

I have great hopes for this game, watched their dev streams, looks like an instant hit.

I really hope that going deeper into mechanics won't just reveal Europa Universalis 4 In Space, but I doubt that'll be the case.

Their customization options are marvelous.

They are running this Blorg joke to the ground really. "Pre-order and get a Blorg forum avatar" lol

And also yes, the things they showed already leave no doubt this will be in every way superior to the new Master of Orion.

There is talk of them having little plushy Blorg dolls made and sold on their website. Agreed though, while I love me some Blorg, the joke is being stretched a bit.

I was really disappointed in the Masters of Orion remake. I wish the devs had listened to the players more during production.

Oh yeah. Watched Joe play this some time ago. I drooled over the idea of the AI workers rebelling and becoming a galactic threat if you arent careful. Kinda makes you wonder what other possible scenarios will be present.

This, hoi4, or both ? Sometimes it worries me when paradox released two games within a month of each other, sometimes one of them is a rushed product money maker they will abandon (march of the eagles) to fund their dlc whoring for the next, looks gud tho, like alpha centauri on steroids.

I will be playing both with my grand strategy friends

I'll probably play HOI4 some day, but to be honest most of the appeal of these games for me is the diplomacy. Not much of that in HOI.

HoI4, though is a combat oriented strat game. So tech and tactics rule, while the others, diplomacy and power are key.

I'll hold off for a day on Stellaris. Please post reviews so I can yay or nay it(until sale)

I will post my review the day of release after I get some hours into it. Everything I am seeing from the live streams and the paradox forums is pretty reassuring though. The most recent live stream really showed off how the combat is going to work versus larger alliances/federations. Speaking of, I like how stellaris seems to have very distinct chapters/phases of the game. The early game is entirely dedicated to finding resources and colonizing worlds and maybe finding some friendly neighbors or rivals .

The mid game is forming alliances with like-minded species or trying to get some land (space?) grabs so that you can become even bigger before you get boxed in from all sides. The late game is diplomacy and huge wars between many different alliances/federations all over the place. I know I am pretty excited to get this game in 14 days.

Customisation looks really nice, so does the game.

But I already know that I will get bored of it 2 hours in. :D

6 days and 22 hours till release. Woo!

For anybody interested the PDX has put up their last dev diary detailing some more modding capabilities, like creating custom portraits for races and custom designs for your ships. Very cool stuff and I love how much Paradox is supporting the modding community.

Come on Vovka, you are not old  And even if you were!
Pretty sure everyone has problems getting a new game to work.
At least I did with Europa Universalis 3! Took me 3-4 rage quit uninstall/reinstall before I got to enjoy it.

Cool game. Is there like a good way to get influence if you're playing a peaceful faction? I feel like it is überslow.

Wondering that myself. My Thrifty Frog Collectivists just want some more influence. Mid game seem to be slow, though it might just be me not knowing what to do. Feels like you very much have to create gameplay for yourself.

I figured you can destroy frontier outposts because colonized planets generate border themselves, that was a decent + back to my influence... thanks game for telling me that

Yes you can destroy frontier outposts  :D  in my current MP game I was at war with a divine mandate insectoid, he had a controlled system just neighbouring my capital system. His was far from any of his planets so he had a frontier outpost here to be able to build all the mines he had. When I destroyed his frontier outpost, the influence from my capital spilled over here and I instantly took control of all his sexy mines

I then proceeded to invade his homeland but got wiped because I am a noob (I thought I could "kite" his army out of his spaceport range, got pulled in and quickly destroyed), but he had not much left himself so I was gonna fuck him good. He then formed a federation with someone else and my war was over, damn it.

I'm a mamal collectivist xenophobe, I want to enslave shit but I dont know if I should enslave my own kind? I still didnt have the necessary opportunities to enslave others. If someone is good at enslaving mechanics I would really love to have some explanation about how to exploit it at the max.

Butan if you are a fanatic colectivist enslave all your population that is in mines/food for no drawback. Their happiness wont drop and the free ones wont mid. For the greater good bro.

Also, when playing colectivist always pick the decadent trait. You just have to enslave one pop on the planet to get rid of the -10% modifier on that planet. Colectivis civs are hella op, slavery is op as fuck atm.

Im playing as The Federation. Xenophile, Materialistic, Individualists. Charismatic and Communal. Rping shit with ship names too, Voyager, eneterprise etc :D

Fanatical xenophobe, not fanatical collectivist  :(  so I have malus if I enslave my own, even if its -50% less.
From what I gathered and the way I want to role play, I switched to fanatical xenophobe militarist: I will conquer and enslave every other inferior races. The traits I picked are sedentary, slow breeders and venerable (+120 years lifespan, feel good to live double the lifespan of other pathetic xeno).

Damn, my game started to lag hard late game.

My processor cant handle these massive calculations. Welp, starting a huge galaxy with 30 empires ona shitty laptop might have been a bad idea

Same problems on a normal galaxy  :P
We had the extra-galactic invasion of like 150K of swarming power, each battles were massive and made the whole game lag, but playable.

Holy fuck the "aggresive expansion" AKA threat in this game is insane. I annex one planet/system and everyone around me froms a federation. I guess the way to go is liberate - vasalise - diplo annex

Yeah except integration takes forever. I literally have to wait 83 fucking years to integrate someone I vassalized (that is after 10 years of waiting, ofc). Way too slow.

There's also a little problem with wars with the AI today.
You can literaly wait them out in a neighbouring system, build massive fleets and retake world they invaded; most of the time after a couple active strikes they will "glitch" into permanently bombarding one planet and not doing anything else while you can do everything you want, increase war score, and win.

With 500 military power and 12 assault transports I ended a war that was declared on me by getting one planet, even though the war parties had 2K combined and bombarded two planets on three intensively (the third one I used as my "make space great again" factory).

Also you can easily wait out with -100% war score, no penalties, and the player greatly benefit from this in the current meta.

I would say the bad AI in war and the lag in big battles end-game + the lack of content are the three great bane of Stellaris today. Still enjoyable, but maybe in a full human player MP + 1-2 advanced empire?

I own a tenth of the huge galaxy and the 40ish factions are starting to notice. This game has a few UI problems, and there's definitely an issue with the way war works, especially against races that don't have the same FTL drives.

Post by: Vibe on May 16, 2016, 10:21:10 pm
I feel like the endgame is kinda boring. I'm just waiting for research to finish so I can queue another one. I have a couple of vassals, integration is fuck slow and can only do one at a time, all my resources are capped, my fleet is capped.

Use the option to limit every civ to hyperlane. You can block off large parts of the galaxy early on by judicious colonization and frontier outposts, but you can also get blocked off from expansion rather easily. It also seems like the AI handles it's forces better that way.

Have they updated the game since release? This seems very similar to Distant Worlds  which was made by an ex sub-studio of paradox. Can you make planets explode in this game?
