Title: Horseback Swingable Weapons
Post by: agweber on April 12, 2013, 05:57:35 pm
Does anyone have a list of weapons that aren't just for lancing/poking from horseback? I know of the Long Hafted Blade as the longest swingable horseback, but what others are there? I'm mostly polearms and some 1h, so I guess I need to ask, are all 2h's swingable from horseback or do some have only poke like many polearms.

in the shop they will say if a weapon is not useable from horseback.  most of the polearms that you can use from horseback (like the bec, or the long knobbed mace) are stab only.

Most 2h's you can use from horse (not the mauls, and probably not the great swords), but I believe most of the 2h axes are useable from horse.  I believe all 1h's are useable from horse

I'm aware of the not usable from horseback flag.

I'll ask again; are there any 2h's that suffer from the stab-only polearm crap?

The other thing I'm looking for is a list of which polearms aren't stab only from horseback.

Sorry didn't see your whole question, AFAIK, no 2h's are "stab only" from horseback, if there's any in particular you're wondering about, ask away

Long Hafted Blade, and hafted blade I believe are the only ones.  Wanted to say military scythe, but I believe that's stab only (think it's a 2h scythe that is swingable)

Huseby is correct, but things get more interesting when you delve into which 1h and 2h retain overheads and stabs.  It seems only true swords have them as far as 2h goes, axes of any type seem to only swing left and right. The shortened military scythe does not count as a true sword, and of course 3 way 1h swords only have their 3 ways.

As far as length goes, the pratice long sword is the longest weapon from horseback followed by the shortened mil scythe, outside of the hafted blades of course.  Then you have the long sword at 106, then the heavy bastard and Arabian cav sword at 105.  Then there is quite a few 1h with 100-105 reach and the bastard sword with 100.  So as you can see, as far as decent weapons go, 1h are not suffering a big reach disadvantage against 2h cav.

Note that 1hs swing noticeably faster and do more damage from horseback, since the hafted blades and 2hs are penalized when used on horseback, while 1hs are not.

Sarranid Cavalry sword is looking pretty hot in terms of reach, damage and weight
