TugBoat won a duel agreed upon before as a "first to 7" contest. Tugboat took a quick lead winning the next four matches. Life then bounced back and managed to win three in a row. Tugboat won another, bringing him to one win from victory. Life then won two more in a row, before TugBoat took the final win.
TugBoat and life both used medium-heavy armor, 24/15 builds, and Masterwork weapons. TugBoat used 2h, Life used a polearm. Polestagger was still enabled on the duel server at the time.
TugBoat is now best player in Alabama until other challengers arise.

Even though the poll is done, I'd like to voice my opinion.
I think Huey is a better player overall because he is good at both cavalry and melee. The nature of Huey's playstyle is such that you can't really do anything about it unless you have the proper counter (mobile ranged, pikes) and even then it's hard to specifically target him because he can just ride to the other side of the map and couch peasants.
The only reason why I received the largest share of votes is because 1) Huey doesn't play anymore and 2) I have a stronger battlefield presence than Huey. Huey in his prime probably had a better KDR and kill count than I ever could have, but it was hard to notice Huey because of the nature of the cavalry playstyle. Some people probably chalked up his high performance to couching AFKs and peasants, which might be partially true. However, when people see an infantry or ranged do well, it's more notable because it's harder to post similar performances given the group-oriented nature of ground combat versus the solo-oriented nature of cavalry.
I think I have a stronger battlefield presence because more things can be done to negate my effectiveness than can be done to a good cav like Huey. If Huey senses that people are actively piking/shooting at him, he can just ride away to another part of the battlefield. However, as an infantry I can be focus-fired down by ranged, ninja'd by cav, or destroyed by melee teamwork. Thus, I'm a higher priority target simply because I can be stopped in more ways than a cav like Huey can.
Yeah, he's an actual player, mostly plays late. He rides around chest armorless with a sword and shield.
P.S. I voted for Huey because he has teamkilled me more than anyone else. Definitely the biggest presence on the battlefield in my mind. And he also appreciates scale armor, as I do. Sorry, were these not the types of things we were supposed to vote on?

He plays every day, and he has improved about 1000% since he started playing (he is still worse than me but that's ok). He is one of the best support chars I have seen in this game and only gets better the more he plays. He does not gloat (except on teamspeak) when he does good nor does he ask for praise (except on teamspeak). Selfless player who is deserving of more votes if you ask me.

It's not about them being a great duelist, but about saying "Ok, I don't want to go go that way X is there and will kill me because of Y."
So if I'm a hoplite, I won't kill you by myself. But pair me up with a meatshield and i'll make your life hell. When you see me not getting kills on battle, its not because I'm a bad player, it is because I accept myself as a support. If I have the option to box someone in for a greatmaul to splatter his brains on my shield I will. So don't just look at the post and say "Out of all these, X will kill them all in duels." Say, "If I these guys were on the other team, who would give me the most trouble?"

It was actually REALLY fun, very well managed by the GK guys and one of my fondest cRPG memories for sure. That final was definitely the most exciting match of the tournament too, we really stomped every other team we went against. Sadly didn't square off with Templar_Tommy's team, he's supposed to be one of the very best but they got eliminated early. We entered the tournament with the idea to grief and mess around and chant USA during rounds, and before you knew it we were in the finals rocking Red White and Blue tunics with patriots cheering us in the stands. I was pumped up to clutch those last two rounds 1 vs 2 for my beloved country.
The best part? We knew that whenever an EU troll posted in any thread saying EU was superior to NA, we were forever one simple youtube link away from making them realize America really is the greatest country with the best players in the world.

Amusingly, sandwich had 70% of the vote last night, with goretooth only having around 10%. Not only was sandwich one of the top 5 duelists for na, he could plate up and pull shit just as easily on the battle server as goretooth did. Alas, playing what is easy and getting a lot of kills is somehow more notable than playing what is hard, and doing the same. 12 str build and light/medium armor compared to 24+ str and plate armor, not to mention being level 33+.I'm lvl 32 btw. I guess respecting to 2h or archer should be mentioned?

BigSandwich is hands down the better individual player. No one can take out a group of guys single-handedly like Goretooth, but Ive seen Big top score boards on all kinds of builds and alt characters. Slowly Manowar made his attacks more and more elaborate, and each time Sandwich was able to block the blow away. Finally Manowar just cursed and decided to kill someone elsewhere.

Polls and contests do it differently, but when there is no clear third typically it is a tie for third. This prevents someone who would be off the charts, for example in a 25 rank system, this prevents rank 26 from being on the roster or flooding the 25 slot list with a 26th

Never have i heard of this when there's a tie. It'd be as san says. 1 2 2 4. I've never heard of 1 3 3 4. I'm pretty sure you can give me an example to sate my curiosity(RL please so i can relate).
Example: College football. There is a top 25 ranking system which is used to determine bowl games at the end of a season or championships and such like that. Anything past rank 25 is considered to be unranked. If two teams both received the same number of first place votes, tying for the 2nd most, they would both be given a 3rd place ranking. This is because if you made them both rank 2, there would be 26 teams in the top 25 assuming there is no other ties, and that would throw off all the charts and graphics all the sports people have, and would screw up a lot of the BCS bowl placements.
ah College football rankings. Also what division you play in matters a lot as well. I don't trust their ranking system as it caters more for "big" schools and often the "good" schools. After reading up on it, that ranking is done 3/4 based upon variables aside from how the team plays. 1 based upon polls(who likes who), a strength rating(based on division and opponents) and a computer ranking based on variables determined by some mathematician or statistician. The last ranking is based on losses(and is often a very large penalty in the rankings as it's 1 point on this predetermined point scale the BCS made). Interesting read, truly, but NOT the norm and only this way to make the most money for the college teams.

I outlined where they get the rankings for each team up above. Though my least favorite is the strength one. If a college plays all year round, goes undefeated and beats lets say....the number 1 and maybe some other decent school, they will only get a decent bowl ranking.
I just like Playoff type series better(like Basketball, baseball and well...all other sports) and am VERY biased. Can't help it, I like seeing shit teams in playoffs and championships if they play well enough, even in "easy" conferences. Just a bias of mine against collegiate football and how it's not as rewarding as i think it should be. Sure watching #1 and #2 play is good, but not as fun as watching #1 loose to #100 in a championship.
