You can also join different servers with one character. I was able to be on duel and siege server at the same time with the same character.

As far as I know that is handled by the TaleWorlds authentication server. Did you try with regular client as well?

On EU4 the one that joined earlier, gets kicked. No difference between beta and normal client.
