The tactic seams to work there is not much more to it....

Many people me included put one life to the walls and then try and stick close to the flag, its a viable and good tactic to protect those bottlenecks you where talking about for atleast some amount of time. But ofc this is only viable if there are friendly's on the flag allready.

no one is useing a arbalest on horseback, the light crossbow is the only one and its not very high dmg. So you have to be pretty good to be able to do some effective dmg.

Going for the minimum WPF in archery is not a good idea at all you should never go under 140 in my oppinion. So take a look at this build for a hybrid archer at lvl 30 i would use a Mace, Fighting axe or a Langes messer as a meele weapon That way you can carry Rus or Longbow and one stack.

    Strength: 18
    Agility: 18

    Ironflesh: 5
    Power Strike: 6
    Athletics: 6
    Power Draw: 6
    Weapon Master: 6

    Two Handed: 60
    Archery: 150

But if you relly want to combine good meele with ranged i would considder crossbow.

when i went 12/24 i used and still use a elite cav shield very durable and does not weigh much but otherwise knightly heater if youre only looking at these 3

i loved one build i went one time its a shielder 12/24 4if 4ps 8shield 8ath 5wm its awsome if you use a steel pick and you are very compact and you can bet on youre shield never breaking if you ahve it loomed but yeah its fun and it works very well to both search out a target and assasinate him and to get out of tight spots
