General Discussion / Re: Remove Polearm Right Swing
« on: March 07, 2015, 10:12:20 am »
The only reason why right swing is used so often is because left and stab (at least on non spear weapons) swings are so bad in comparison.
It is really flawed to compare polearms to 1h and 2h. Because 2h has 3 good attack direction (left, right, and overhead) and all of 1h four attack directions are pretty decent nowadays.

In fact the 1h right swing is far better than polearms right swing. Since 1h swing adds far more range and is a lot faster and easier to aim for head shots.

General Discussion / Re: [Poll] Feedback on 2h stab.

It seems a little too short.

I suppose it is faster but I really find it weird that 2h sword now will lose "the range" game with 1h fairly often.

Also as everyone else has said: it is difficult to aim and time the stab because you can't actually see the animation for your character.

Wrong day, Christmas is tomorrow. Tonight is Christmas Eve though.

Same thing every year. It's Christmas in Scandinavia today :D

So merry Christmas to everyone (who celebrates it today)

General / Re: I backed the game.

But they didn't get even close to their goal, they merely reached a third of what was planned. Do you think a second shot would have higher chances of success?

Since the release of M&B back then there have been a lot of melee games out there, Chivalry, War of Roses, War of the Vikings, Life is Feudal, Gloria Victis, etc., the "attack or block on click" melee system is already pretty common, and I think the devs need to come up with something more special than a game mode where you build castles. The idea itself is quite nice, but apparently it's not THAT popular. I don't know. Perhaps the presentation wasn't just that good.

Don't forget that their original goal was 90k until the community (including myself) succeeded in making them raise the goal.
EDIT: my bad you can't know since that discussion was in the "early backer" forum :D

I don't know if they will actually be able to make the game with just 90k. Though if the goal was 90k then we actually got a little over half of the money.

I still don't think that making a new KS would work though :(
You are right about the game not looking special. The problem is that people don't know the things we do about the Donkey Crew and what they are capable of :D

why not do that :O

I guess you get more exposure from KS (thought it doesn't seem to be much :( ).

General / Re: Blocking with weapons
« on: December 07, 2014, 08:37:41 pm »
To me weapon degradation is a bad idea.
The game should be about fighting people as much as you want. You shouldn't get tied down because your weapon "broke" or is close to.

Honestly, the guy who has been fighting and killing people throughout the whole round should have at least as a good a fighting chance as someone who hasn't been fighting at all (hiders/delayers/people who just didn't happen to meet an enemy).

I would much rather see bad blocks have impact on the actual fighting e.g. resulting in a weapon stun.

Anyway nice to see people on the forums making suggestions again :D
Like your sheathing idea though. It would make sense and always bring some balance to the whole ranged kiting, since they wouldn't be able to switch back and forth between melee and ranged weapons as easily.

I'm not sure if starting to spam imgur is the best of ideas...

True

@OP: though your sacrifice/commitment to M:BG is really cool! :D
Keep up the good spirit.

Prince of Persia was awesome though (well the first one)

And Morrowind wasn't awesome? :(

Please just decrease all levels by 3. It is such an easy way to adjust this mess.

General / Re: What a nice surprise! Can we do this? It will be very funny.
« on: December 02, 2014, 11:35:26 pm »
Once we have the combat system more refined, we also want to introduce ways for two players to cooperate, think a bit 'Army of Two' if you ever played that on consoles :D actual ways for two people to team-play other than simply fighting.

That's a really good idea. Played the demo with a friend and it was actually really a lot of fun.

Good idea. Maybe they could do something similar for announcing Epic.

Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: "Sweet Spot" for body armor on a 2Hander
« on: December 02, 2014, 09:30:36 am »
Go for a body armour between 46 and 49. These armours are simple the best for any melee build.
The armour rating is high enough and it won't really make a huge difference if you go for heavier armours plus the weight is not to bad especially assuming that you have at least 6 or 7 athletics.

Though it really is sad that there is an armour group that is so superior to everything else :(

General / Re: Stronghold mode
« on: December 01, 2014, 10:54:12 pm »
In my opinion 30 minutes to an hour seems too short. I'm pretty certain that the player-base of this game won't be a bunch of casuals who lose interest after a short amount of time; there will be other game modes that will be shorter, I think a fully fleshed out strategy game-mode should potentially last an hour and a half or more.

An hour is a long time if you are stuck on an unproductive team which there always a few people who think.
This leads to them RQing which in turn leads to an actual bad team due to few numbers.
If people knew they had to stay on the same losing team for hours then I am pretty sure that a lot of them would leave especially in a gamemode where you depend so much on your team for resources and stuff.

I think it would be really difficult to populate a server with a gamemode that takes more than an hour.

General / Re: Mount and Blade skills tranferable?
« on: November 29, 2014, 12:18:11 am »
That's a big thing for me, i'll play the game and like it, but i dont want a combat system where people claim 'skill' is based on making your character look like they're having a spazz attack with feinting, ground-hugging and circle-jerking. In crpg and warband the more retarded you can make your guy look, the 'better' you are.

Earlier there was a one feint limit on feinting in the alphabeta.
Devs removed that and said they wanted to add a stamina based system where you can feint until your stamina is gone.
Supposedly normal attack will not require stamina, so it wont be a stamina system that is as limiting as Dark Souls'.

Also @OP: The reason why M&B is so difficult for new players is the very high/non-existing skill ceiling.
Though it might make the game hard for new players it is also what has kept the game so interesting in the long run.

I hope M:BG gets to have at least as high a ceiling as M&B. It really just makes a more interesting game even if it is challenging to begin with.

I'm thankful there is no Thanksgiving in Europe.

Never quite understood this. Thanksgiving is one of the nicer American traditions.
I'd rather have Thanksgiving than some of those ordinary meaningless Christian holidays :D

Happy Thanksgiving to all the Yanks (and the other people (if any) who celebrate it) out there!
