General Discussion / 1h cav - no longer viable

The new horse backbump changed has made this class completely unplayable I am afraid.

Its not that you cant do the bump-remove block-hit (typical bumpslash), although that was the 1h cav main weapon (lacking range over other types of cav). The issue is that right now, any infantry can dodge you so easly, either by moving AWAY or moving TOWARDS.

So you now have such a small field of effective attack, that you cant kill anyone but unsuspecting stationary targets (guess how many that means). If the enemy is moving, it either moves out of range (range being quite small, even with the longest 105 sword) or it moves closer so you bump the target, canceling your attack.

Remember, unlike lance cav and bow cav, sword cav CANNOT attack foward targets, only sideways. That means you *WILL* bump unless the target is positioned perfectly for you to pass besides it. In any real combat situation it means you mostly fail your swing.

This is a great shame, 1h cav being hardly overpowered and in fact the hardest and weakest cav style (being so vulnarable to all sorts of weapons) and took a lot of skill.

Hi all,

I suggest an (easy) change that will increase strategus complexity and strategy. Right now you move on the map with no regard to what is there... ok, its simple, but why not

1. make SEA impossible to travell on - giving map features a meaning

2. create FORESTS where movement is 1/4th or 1/2 of normal speed


This will make strategic choices on which borders to patrol, watch, where to move, slower but maybe unguarded routes etc. etc.

Would it be possible to make a marketplace for ALTS? It could be made as a completely seperate database/thing, exactly same code and everything just "ALTS = allowed" "MAIN = not allowed"

Instead of an anti cav and almost ranged weapon, they are the ultimate close combat tool... or at least as effective as a short sword.

Doesnt matter if I pass the point by half the shaft, am facehuging my opponent, he can still pike me for max dmg. Or can be max effective with it in a room which is so small the pike couldnt be fit in it.

Just make the thing colide with surfaces already...

I cant spawn. I enter, everyone spawns, I dont. sometimes there is a msg "You have only X seconds left to spawn" and I cant. Dunno what to do

I have a distinct feeling that since the patch horse archers have become more numerous and too annoying to play with. Before it used to be maybe 1 or 2 per team and that was OK, but now on 30 v 30 I begin to see up to 4 in a single team...

The problem is that there are no effective counters for them. If they are smart enough not to run in straight line (and i sppose youd have to be pretty stupid not to figure it out) with the agile horses neither cav nor regular archers or xbows can effectively harm them. A cav user can never catch a HA, and if he gets close a single or two arrows ensure a dead horse. Archers get pwned because of bump shooting and the fact that the archer has to stand still while the HA can dodge and dodge awesomelly (sarranid). Melee need to get lucky to even consider harming them.

Can we reconsider some of the HA mechanics? Maybe reduce the firing arc so they can only fire infront and cav can then chase them?
