Game Balance Discussion / [BALANCE] Javelins

Javelins are seriously lacking compared to their bigger brothers, the jarids. While the jarids are strong (for throwing :P ), javelins are weaker (suprisingly despite only 6 difference in pierce), way weaker than they should be for the price. It takes me 3 javelins in the chest of a medium armoured cavalry man, charging towards me (so speed bonus) for him to die. I realise I am using 5 pt, but there is 145 wpf and mw javelins going into that armour :P

I suggest that some sort of buff be applied to javelins (at least). Maybe a damage increase, or add 1 more javelin per stack or even just lower the price to match the cost.

Yes this is a buff that would help me out, but at the same time I think many would agree that javelins are under represented in crpg.

Edit : throwing spears look a little weak as well, they could definitely do with a price reduction imo.

Hi guys, I know this is a huge ask but I really wanna trial these items out for my build :

A) Champion Courser
B) Masterwork Jarids

Now I dont have the money to buy either of these things and neither if I did would I,

I want to test these out so I kindly ask if anyone trusts me enough to loan me said item and I will return it within a month.

If you wish I can afford a deposit of 200 k and I will pay up to 40k for the lending of an item overall.

I know many of you wont know me so loaning to me sounds insane but I am hoping that those who have spoken to me on ts and / or heard of me know that when I say 'I will return the item', I will return the item

I love throwing, its what I do, so yes I am lobbying for my own class... but I think I have some decent reasons why throwing did not deserve the nerf that all ranged got :

- Throwing is inaccurate, I have 145 wpf in it with mw javelins and when standing still the reticle is at least twice as wide as a normal xbow with 80wpf. There is no way that i can successfully pull off headshots as often as people demand that i should.
- It takes almost all my 6 javelins at 5pt to kill a player wearing medium armour with body shots. That is insane, balance wise and realism wise :P I am using 2 slots of loomed weapons for the ability to kill 2 peasants or 1 medium armoured opponent and thats assuming i hit with body shots every time.
- Horses are one of the main prey of throwing weapons, due to their large hit boxes but now it takes 5 or so mw javelins in the body of an arabian warhorse to down it, rounceys take a similar amount and coursers and destriers feel like heavy horses :P though headshots are easier on horses they still are not frequent enough to rely on them.

To sum up, throwing isnt designed for headshots, its designed to be low ammo heavy hitting body shots, for throwing to be truly viable the ranged nerf needs to be reverted back. I have opinions similar regarding other ranged but I feel throwing is the unsung victim of this nerf.

So I wonder if it would be possible for all attackers who have made attacks on xmas day postponed to maybe the 27th or some date where players who want to have xmas day to their families can actually turn up. These attacks are just bad sportsmanship.

Could it be that devs can postpone them for a few days or rather just make attackers auto lose. Ofc that is if the devs / public agree that xmas day is an out of order day to make an assault as it is clearly using the fact that no one is about to defend on xmas day to skip nasty and what would be good battles.

DRZ... we know you have lots of players who are stuck to their screens all day and every day. But its xmas day evening that you have chosen to attack me. Have some balls and attack on a day where your opponents will be more than 5 or 4 players!

To others... if anyone is about doing nothing on xmas day feel free to apply for GK battle at 21.00 gmt + 0 Should be a fun battle but I realise its xmas and that many people wont want to turn up! Thanks anyway

The Peloponnessian League was in history the allied forces of Greek City States  for two centuries.

To c-rpg it is a faction that all characters that are inspired by the armies of ancient Greece can unite under (I realise the faction 'Phalanx' was around but it seems to have died). The faction fights together in formation and as a single stoic unit.

To work together in the formation of a phalanx requires good communication and the ability to not only hold your ground but to protect the man on your left (300 got some things right :P). Of course I realise that due to the nature of this game producing a historically faithful phalanx is near impossible, however with a little experimentation and work I believe that we could make some dead hoplites proud :P

This is a faction open to mains and alts of players who are willing to play a strictly disciplined game and value teamwork over heroics. Characters should be able to play a useful role in the faction. Players are also required to be mature and respectful. Currently based in EU.

This is a faction that I predict will be mainly made of alts as I know that many players have their factions they already belong to (myself included) but if you feel like building an alt and joining that is just as good as only belonging to this faction.

Appearance

This can vary but keep with a hoplite theme, banner and look shown in spoiler below

- only round shields
- not too heavy armour (kuyaks look not hoplite like but a bit like a medieval hoplite might dress)
- strong helmet

Builds

For now the League is only looking for infantry builds in order to form the main phalanx. So here are some builds that the league requires to achieve its first objective.

Hoplite (Front Rank)

This Hoplite is capable at using a spear but is also adept at using the shorter swords, while keeping his body behind a strong shield. He must stand his ground whatever comes at him, relying on fellow hoplites from the front and back ranks to support him.

- High shield skill required
- Moderate polearm Proficiency
- Relatively high proficiency in one handed weapons

Suggested weapons :

- Heavy Round Shield
- War Spear
- short one handed blade designed for lightning fast strikes e.g. long dagger, falcion, scottish sword

Hoplite (Back Ranks)

This Hoplite supports the man in front of him using his high proficiency in polearms to prevent attackers getting close enough to reach the front ranks of the phalanx. He must be precise with his thrusts and be able to time them well.

- High Shield Skill
- High Polearm Proficiency

Suggested Weapons :

- Ash Pike (a fast and strong support spear that allows the use of a shield as well)
- Heavy Round or Huscarl Shield
- Long Dagger (for desperate cases as the ash pike is near useless in close quarters)

Peltast

These Light Infantry are designed to add some flexibility to the phalanx, though they are not strictly related to the phalanx of 600 bce they were later adopted by the Macedonian armies of Phillip II. They will give the phalanx protection at the flanks while being able to harass opponents before contact.

- Some Shield Skill
- Good proficiency in 1 handed weapons
- good athletics
- Throwing capabilites (to javelin standards at least)

Suggested weapons :

- Elite Cavalry or Round Cavalry Shield
- Javelins
- Light 1h swords and axes

The tag for the league will be :

PL (e.g. PL_Hoplitai_Lorenzo)

Also maybe later on the actual role you play in the league can be introduced into the tag but for now PL will do.

Diplomacy / English Knights and GK

Some weeks ago several GK players were attacked outside amashke for being near the village by the English Knights.

On the same grounds GK will return the favour in the lands surrounding peshmi, this is just a quick memo ;)

Use this thread for the defenders of Dhibbain! Lets organise a ts to all go to so we can do an effective defence using some real tactics and better k/d's for all :)

We should nominate a commander and then obey commands whatever, this will enrich everyone's experience :)

GK is currently interested in finding a honourable entrepreneur  to work with them to make a profit not only for us but themselves as well. Simply we will supply you with some goods, who will buy them for a reasonable price and you will take these goods further afield and make a profit on selling them faraway.

Suggestions Corner / Sarissas...

The sarissa was the choice polearm of phalangites of the macedonian armies post phillip reform. The weapon was typically around 5m long and completely useless for single combat, but rather very effective in formations. It was wielded with 2 hands but to the forward facing arm a buckler was attached that could be used as some defence vs arrow fire. Now infantry are constantly complaining about having no way to deal with cav without being exposed to arrow fire, maybe we could introduce this weapon into the game.

The buckler would be the main issue, off the top of my head I can come up with 2 methods of implementation :

- treat the sarissa as a 1h polearm, only  code it to be only usable with certain smaller shields i.e. the buckler.
- add a buckler to the 2h animation on the appropriate arm, then do a lot of coding nonsense I dont understand (and may not be possible) to have the buckler defend from arrows to some degree.

The sarissa would be unsheathable and in 1 on 1 melee would be completely useless at blocking.

I also realise this would be probably a lot of coding that is either problematic or just time consuming so just bouncing this idea off the wall ;)

Now lets have the start of every round have 5 war rhinos released from each side with 2000hp and say 20 armour, these rhinos charge around randomly and do 400 pierce damage on impact with extra bump, pikes cannot rear them, only a throw of a throwing lance to the eye can slay a rhino. The round cannot end until all rhinos of one team die.

I am one of the last of a dying breed, a remnant of a glorious race, the best and worst of my kind, I am a Jav Cav...

But seriously why does no one play this build? :P its great fun and is a nice counter to lancers if you can master it (which I havnt done :P), so I wanna see more javalry because I know there are loads of people that could really make this class work, while I lack the general base skills to be anything more than mediocre :D

It's a nice flexible build with javelins, throwing spears or jarids where you can run down archers and light inf, while being able to take down lancers and HA and the occassional pike.

Try this build, I dare you :P

The Great Khans were attacked by the Hospitallers this morning but it appears they were not man enough for the fight. Many of our brave players got up out of their lordly hammocks to fight the battle this morning only to find the Knights could not field a single person to fight against us. We are thoroughly disappointed as we were really looking forward to taking your heads as trophies...

Suggestions Corner / Spears =/= lances

Ok so I am a cav player currently using a war spear off horse, so that I can switch between that and 2 bags of javelins. Now the recent lance angle nerf seems to have balanced cav to a point where most have stopped whining about it :P however I am wondering why smaller polearms are constrained to this angle as well, which imo is a little unbalanced. I believe any polearms equal to / under 150 length should be given the old angle of attack as they are by no means in the same league as lances. A 2h sword is more than able to outrange a war spear, this was true even before the angle nerf and I think that to reflect smaller polearms difference they should be not be restricted in angle. I realise this may be a hardcoded issue but just a suggestion :)

What's your opinion?
