How the fuck are these graphics possible on current gen consoles? It looks way better than anything anyone's released, even on PC. Best graphics AND insane view distance. The animations and the attention to detail look crazy. How is such a thing possible, I ask you? Honestly I'm hyped just because the animations are so fucking good.

1:30 looks photorealistic as far as you can see, too.

Didn't think a game like this was possible yet, looks truly next gen in every aspect. Insane that it's coming out on crappy current gen consoles.

This is some next level optimization. Like 10x better than anyone else has ever pulled off. If Rockstar can do this on consoles, then I have no idea what's possible anymore.

Do you think that RDR2 will come out for PC aswell?

Ive read plenty of different threads on forums on reddit that they are planning a 2019 release for PC's aswell, god, I hope they do.

It really does look amazing. Sounds like there will be quite a lot you can do in game aswell. I expect to get a good amount out of the singleplayer before multiplayer launches. @ me if you will be playing PS4

I dunno, doesn't look that crazily detailed. More just an effect of great lighting choices. Still, would be impressive for a console game.

Because millions of people play these kind of games on consoles while PC crowd is dispersed and mainly focused on stupid grindy MMO like shit games with piss poor graphics. Second, hardware is fixed and devs are trying hard to squeeze every bit of it, while on PC they have luxury to just wrap it in some shit and call it a day. Who cares if it is running 500% slower, PCs are 500% more powerful amirite? This is mindset of 99% nextgen SJW web developers who work with JavaScript and similar technologies. If it is running slow, buy better hardware. Since you can't do that with console until next one comes out you have to get your hands dirty and optimize it like they it in the 80s on 8 bit computer, using lot of clever tricks.

Also, Rockstar is top of the crop publisher/developer today and they hire best talent, they are pros at what they are doing.

That all being said, this game doesn't appeal to me in the slightest, waiting for Sekiro. In the meantime finally got Bloodborne and whenever I get time I'm enjoying that gem of a game.

Rockstar and CDPR are the last of the AAA devs that care about the quality of their games. All of Rockstar's 10 studios are working on RDR2, and Rockstar North alone has ~400 employees. They've got so many talented devs, and they put a lot of time and effort into their games, which is great. If Rockstar was like Ubisoft or Activision or EA, we'd be on GTA 23 and RDR 17 by now.

Im sorta suprised these companies, especially Rockstar are doing so okay. AAA level gamemaking(with CARE) is probably the least profitable, unstable, most stressful thing I can think of. Like for example Witcher 3(which is kinda gamings blockbuster hit), which had an insane amount of sales had a budget of 81mil, serius amount of directing etc, years of development and only got a measly 63 mil as profit(took these from wikipedia). Hit movies with that budget get about x3 that profit(also taken from wikipedia). Clash of clans gets like more then x10 those profits each year. I dont think EA and Ubisoft want to be shitty, they just dont have the option, the profits are horseshit without lootboxes and dlcs. Im kinda suprised why EA for example is still even in the AAA business, if its so shit. If I was them I would have moved to mobile more aggressively years ago. I quess they still are making that push however(the new C&C)....

Like this flamewar with Konami and Hideo. Hideo is a fucking great, makes great stuff and a true visionary. Each game is a hit and a masterpiece, unfortunately also expensive af to make and the profits, while great, arent enough to fill the "when shit hits the fan" emergency fund. No shit they kicked Hideo out and will now make more mobile games and casino slot machines. Its completely risk free. Each time Hideo got the money, there was risk that this time his magic wont work and the entire company goes immediately under along side whatever the hell he is working on.

RDR 2 has 300k animations and 500k lines of dialogue.

For comparison, Witcher 3 had 70k lines of dialogue, GTA 5 had 160k lines of dialogue, Fallout 4 had 110k lines of dialogue, Skyrim 60k, DOS 2 75k.

Mass Effect 1, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 have a combined 85k lines of dialogue.

It was the best one. He jumped off a cliff, the horse acted realistically while in the air, and he flew off it with a thump that you could feel, and then the horse was dying slowly on the ground until he took out a knife and ended its suffering. All the physics and animations looked unbelievable, considering it wasn't a scripted cutscene but actual live gameplay.

I hate you because I really want RDR2 but I know I'll never get it because I'm not buying a console just so I can play one game and then never use it again. I'm sad af.
For real though that's actually insane, 500k lines of dialogue.. You can really see in comparison the level of detail and passion put into this.

Guess I'll just have to watch a playthrough of it ;(

I'm not buying a console either, not least because shooting games on consoles are gay.

I just hope they'll release a port in ~6-9 months.

If, like a lot of people speculate, they want to double-dip and get people to buy their game twice, they'll probably wait like 1.5-2 years before releasing the port. That'd be awful. GTA 4 PC port took 8 months, LA Noire 6 months, so there's some hope for a faster port, at least.

There's a real drought of good SP games right now, and RDR 2 would've been perfect if it came out now on PC.

Man this game looks really cool, voice acting is great, the environment/towns are nice and there's a bunch of little details that make it awesome.

It pains to only be able to watch streams of it.
Title: Re: Red Dead Redemption 2
Post by: Xant on October 26, 2018, 09:22:20 am
It looks really good. Watched a couple hours of streams, and the variety is insane. So many completely different locations, so many completely different quests. The combat looks great too. Best part so far seems to be the world: it seems believable and alive. A lot of random encounters at just the right intervals, and they all looked interesting and there was a lot of variety there too. As opposed to open world games like The Witcher 3 where there's a lot of space but it's just filled with copy-paste bandits and monsters, to the extent that it's not a believable world at all.

And there's a lot of story. Rockstar isn't afraid of taking it slow and telling the story instead of spoonfeeding the player constant mindless action, which is also really nice.

Definitely GOTY, really hope they port it soon.

The cinematic mode is nothing short of glorious, esp in the grizzlies, Its far better than in GTA V which just seemed to make me me lose my sense of direction. Here you activate it while following someone or on a path and hold x and your character autopaths while you watch them talk like watching a movie.

It's pretty damn fun. Played about 8 hours yesterday. Gonna be pretty amazing when multiplayer goes live. Good amount of time until then to knock out the singleplayer/solo explore.

Rockstar really is the gold standard. The optimization is amazing it runs like a dream.

If only MP in GTA wasn't ruined by gimmicks and silly stuff like armored cars and jets. Hopefully it's a bit more balanced for RDR2.

5 million dollars to buy a new horse cart from the "Lever-action" update, also including new golden plated version of previous guns for 1 million a piece. 50 million base of operation from the "Robbery" update where you also unlock the ability to store guns from your inventory to avoid having to cycle through 7 guns to find the one you wanna use. Player owned steamboats(100 million for the party pool version) and new multiplayer wave survival missions against rabid savages in the update "Gunsaw tomahawk".

GTA online had incredible potential.

Almost all of it untapped. The MP was pretty awful, all things considered. No anti-cheat, tons of retarded gimmicks, completely dumb respawn/pvp mechanics in the open world, etc., etc.

I just want them to pick a concept and stick to it. GTA Online was a mess. It allowed PvP and griefing and shit but none of that mattered at all, your target just respawned one block away endlessly.

I'd love a hardcore, deaths-matter-and-dying-sucks mode. Would probably need something to stop it from turning into complete chaos, like maybe dividing people into two teams or something. Anything. Make multiple servers for the PvE-coop beta boys and hardcore PvPers. Just stick to your guns Rockstar and do something meaningful with the MP instead of a mess like GTAO that tried to cater to everyone and so catered to no one.
