Title: Terraria!
Post by: Gravoth_iii on June 30, 2015, 08:00:46 pm
Since i cant find any official thread for it, but a lot of mentions in other threads, im starting one now... bringing... THIS

A long time ago they said they would stop updating it, but they still havent, and every patch is worthy of a new playthrough. And its free, more content than most DLC's in other games, and freeeeee. Will probably post whatever madness might be built on my server.

Lets not ever mention starbound again, just forget about it completely.

When minecraft was pretty hype and all the mining and crafting kind of games started pumping out i was VERY sceptical about terraria, took me a long time before i finally gave in to a friend and bought it. Boy was i wrong  the things i wouldve missed out on if i didnt buy it...

My favourite part is watching the first temporary settlement slowly evolve into a bigger and bigger storage and finally an actual massive building. Always turns out differently but still similar.

I almost feel bad when its free, and they give us more than some bigger games charge 10€+ for. I mean that is a fuckton of new stuff.

Also, goddamn i love the music in terraria. They really found a style that fits the game 100%, and its amazing. I get nostalgic everytime i hear it.

Everybody gets free upvote cuz Terraria topic! Seriously, I'm a huge fan. Wanted to like Starbound, I really did, but that game is such boring piece of crap and can't force myself to play it.

Will reinstall Terraria ASAP (who doesn't have Terraria on Steam). Shame I have another really cool game playing atm but Ruskie Dwarves will have to wait a bit.

I played it a while back in Nordmen with karasu, would play it again defiantly.

Make a cRPG Server. Would be great.

I've never really got far into the game though, to me it's still brand new because i've not seen 90% of the content still. It's a big game and i've never had time.

The thing with starting a server is that you want to progress together, but when it gets crowded its really hard to do that.

Did you guys ever dig down the ocean to hell? Shit goes crazy.

have you ever done it in expert, because that shit will go even crazier. for people who doesnt know they added an expert option to world options so it make the bosses and monsters harder but there are more rewards that can be obtained only on expert

Terraria is a great game. Played it with my brother on local for 2 weeks when we had no internet. That was the first version and I haven't played it since, but the amount of fun build projects you can do is insane. We made a tunnel going across the whole map, from start to finish on the biggest world, flooded hell with water so we could mine. And the dungeons are great.

I once received it as a gift, but never really got into it, cause I was playing other games at that time

Now I tried it again and boy, was I wrong. This game is so addicting. And just when I have to keep it together with gaming since I got my finals next week.

damnit!

Here's my house from an earlier save with some friends, had teleporters linked up to all major buildings that were scattered across the world. I loved this mansion, i collected all the paintings i could find from underground expeditions, untill at some point i just could fit anymore.

I love the jungle soundtrack, so originally it was built on jungle (or maybe i planted the jungle seeds, cant remember, i always spread corruption and jungle through seeds though so the world is never pretty) but then mushroom biome was added and i totally had to get that for the music aswell.

Never took you for an architect, Gravoth. Damn nice my friend.

But why you got such a big roof and no attic?  :)

nice gravoth, if you ever plan to renovate or build another. may i suggest you add a central elevator to the house, would look nicer and be a wee bit faster. instead of having all those offset trapdoors
Title: Re: Terraria!
Post by: Thovex on July 02, 2015, 11:44:30 am
how do you make an elevator? :X
Title: Re: Terraria!
Post by: AwesomeHail on July 02, 2015, 04:07:42 pm
well not an exact elevator, but just make a straight hole and put some platforms in the middle, just at top jumping height

I prefer building asymetrical, gives it life, nothing is perfect. No tryhard elevators here.

But why you got such a big roof and no attic?  :)

The top floor is the attic, just doesnt cover the entire roof. I think i tried it but it started to look weird.

Hardware requirements went up tenfold. Five minutes to generate large world, low fps...

Hardcore char, hard diff, seems too hard atm. Even blobs are tough to kill. Thank god for Logen.

Why do I get copper tools at spawn?
Title: Re: Terraria!
Post by: //saxon on July 02, 2015, 06:36:48 pm
If your fps is low right from the start i have no idea what fps you will get once you acquire the good items that shoot all this craziness, for example that sword called the horseman's blade everytime you attack it spawns up to 1000 little pumpkins that seek out enemies. it's known to destroy graphics cards and cpu's  :?

Start of my treehouse base, plan to hollow out the rest of the tree and build rooms for npcs to live in. The lower branches will have small buildings built on them for things such as storage and crafting. awesome ideas for this place, but i want to keep it looking like its built on a tree and not end up looking like some factory on a massive wood post. will post more progress pics of the build

also got my hands on some higher tiered loot from playing on a friends server with this character, but im going not use any of it till later on because it feels like cheating.

nice tree house, im thinking of doing it too, i have 2 big trees not so far from each other, maybe will do a bridge between them and make rooms for npc and main house in the middle

progress screen, in the proper 1920x1080 res

hollowed out the tree, may ditch the wood sidewalls and just use the leaves, as it still counts as valid housing. new view of my sorted and organized storage room and the crating room, noth of which will need expansion, as i always need more storage and i got a few new crafting gizmos. also found a use for the high level gear i obtained....Decoration! much better than having it gather dust and waste space in some chest.
Also note the rope elevator i got running down the center of the tree, all the way to the top. i need to find a way to get the living wood tree blocks (might need to be spawned in) and fill in those ugly holes. also thinking of ways to most efficiently use the rope, i got some much of it, i decided to test run some ideas i have, as you can see with the random rope hanging from that branch. hmmm yay or nay?
any suggestions are welcome.

fill the holes with the grass wall or jungle wall (or flower wall if you want some fancyness) , purchasable from the dryad.
it will show as the image below
(click to show/hide)

make three or four space for the double rope to climb it if you feel unconfortable with the single rope.

find a Leaf Wand (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Leaf_Wand) and use it to expand your house if you need , it only costs you 1 wood for 1 leaf block.

then let your imagination do the rest.

you can build underground , expand horizontally or go straight up and connect your house to a sky island :)

Played with tommy a bit on hard. Frigging jellies are even a challenge in the begining.
Title: Re: Terraria!
Post by: Leshma on July 03, 2015, 05:26:27 pm
Yes they are. When zombies came I didn't yet build a house (too busy fighting jellies) and guess what? Got roflstomped by zombies. Became a ghost.

Huge map is really fucking huge, I've done a little experiment as ghost. Took me five minutes to get to bottom of hell. Another ten to get to right corner. Now I know why game is so much hardware demanding, they expanded it so much it doesn't even resemble original game.

Can't wait for Terraria Otherworld, that should be spin-off with greater focus on RPG.

Wish ACE Team would give their go at this concept. Abyss Odyssey is excellent game imho, would love it to become a sandboxy world building experience.

thanks, running out of space was my biggest worry, looks like im gonna have to fight the Eye of cthulu first.
Also wicked cool house man.

any major difference between The crimson and the corruption? i have the crimson on my world.

Also did some more building, tried out a new idea for rooms. Have them hanging from the branches! got a few new cool items, like ninja spike claws that let me climb walls.
want to do a bit more expansion and mining before i take on any bosses. my main problem is finding iron, as i need it to craft lots of things, it seems to have been replaced by tin.

it's not my house :D i posted it to showing clock what the background wall should be look like.
i actually have 2 small buildings and a single floor one when we got our crafting stations .
i'm waiting to gather moar blocks to start my house and i want it huuge and wicked but i need some mid-end game stuff to do it so i'm sticking with the pratical housing for now :P

Fuck Logen. I've made a house, it was night time and zombies are crawling around. Locked myself into the house and fucking Logen opened the door and run away, left me with bunch of zombies and big jellos. Died.

Seriously, hardcore char and hard difficulty don't go well together. Think I'll go for medium diff char, will be hella pissed if I die sometimes later. Or I could treat game like Rogue Legacy, new char as my ancestor.

more progress! just put ol Eye of cthulu in the ground! now we got the dryad moving in, sweet!
also you can see some additions in decor and space, notablable the area below the crafting room and the hanging cooking pot platform

now that i got dryad, im off to do some gardening and a bit more base building on the ground floor, got an idea for a house with wooden beams keeping it off the ground.

After that, trip into the crimson, TIME TO PURIFY! and for home expansion, well, i got one low hanging branch left open, and a spot to hang another platform, Theres always space on the ground, but im thinking the real fun is building UNDERground. Straight from the tree, through the trunk right into the ground, all on one rope!

Terraria is simply wonderful game, both inside and out. It takes some time to get used to retroish graphics but once game atmosphere pulls you in, there's no easy way out. I'm pretty sure I haven't played any singleplayer (yeah I'm only playing singleplayer lately even tho multi is much more fun) longer than I've played Terraria this year. Basic premise of the game is pretty simple, yet very complex (like Diablo franchise).

And the best thing about Terraria is the fact that autothor of the game is constantly upgrading it, making it even more epic with every new patch. If he keeps doing like this, in two years, Terraria will become one of the greatest games in history!

Terraria is the real next gen game, once the 3d graphics technology get to level where it becomes possible to make games like Terraria and it's predecessor Minecraft, in full 3d with realistic graphics, we'll witness the next chapter in video games history. It's basically a blueprint for future sandbox games.

Steam user reviews are still a thing? Thats one of the rare things I have written that I will gladly stand by even today. Terraria is one of the best ever games, even tho it isnt original nor that great in any particular category. Its just so well made and like Factorio it is dangerously addictive and thats enough for a game to be great.

Terraria holds second place in bang for buck category, right after Warband.

Will give it another try these days. Terraria is everything Starbound never was. On the outside they look similar but playing Starbound is like watching paint dry.
