Getting this game 100%. The game is basically focused on faction warfare, kind of like GW2 WvW but more deep.

Beta is apparently coming out soon as it's been said at E3. They're also giving away beta keys like mad over twitter and facebook today.

Is there a place where I can find all the different vehicles/aircraft for the different factions? I read on one site that said there are 10 vehicles/ aircraft with 2 unique faction vehicle/aircraft but I heard that there are more than that.

yeah technical tests started a few days ago, but they are expanding it over the enxt few days. Beta will kick off in a few weeks as well. :)

Dunno, I like the color blue and NC has some decent looking armor sets, they fight for the oppressed. TR are tyrants with the "better than thou" attitude, and Vanu have flamboyant costumes and colors. It wasn't really hard for me to choose to be honest.
Vanu .... eww. TR is the only faction with guns that sound like .... guns. Vanu stuff sounds like dubstep. Plus I HATE the vanu sights.... all of them.
Yea in game the sound of one of the vanu guns is very, WUB-WUB-WUB-wubwubwubwub. Its pretty funny actually. Also who wants their max to look like Zoidberg? Plus vanu stealth zerg like crazy. Its tradition.

1 Yea it has some bugs for sure but the ones I've ran into seem to be terrain related. But I have seen Turrets deployed upside down, so that's funny.
The performance on the current build is stable mostly the graphic quality is amazing though, NNight fights have never been more pretty. The last 3 days have been a non stop fight at one base with the TR holding off both empires. I've seen land battles of several 100 players, dozens of aircraft, tanks and rockets and tracers firing off as fast as they can. All while maintaining a constant framerate.
The aircraft for me are basicaly an expensive way to kill myself quickly. But as far as watching the dogfights each empires are distinct and have very REAL limitations that is nice to see. The liberator is tough but slow and the guns on it are pretty neat. The empire specific ones are pretty cool and the style of flight is very different from one another. The vanu on is fast and VERY nimble, the NC is armoured and hard hitting but almost lumbering by comparison, while the mighty Republic bird is a perfect blend of form and function. Also the fastest in straight lines. Watching the 3 empire birds dog fighting has been one of the coolest things I've seen in game so far, and you can watch the pilots get better.
I will say this, I had high hopes for this game and even in this beta build I am not let down. Also it has intergrated squad voice chat and its very good.

Also maxes right now are really really weak. I kill them as a light assault all the time. With just my rifle. 8-) And I've never seen a vanu max with shoulder armor like in that picture. I mistake them for HA all the time.

PC gamer keys are considered priority keys, a lot of people were pissed off because they could've just subbed to planetside 1 for the cost of the magazine and gotten in sooner than the magazine.
Probably won't get in till the 22nd or so, just like me and my group.
Last Smedley twitts and reddits I saw, PC Gamer keys weren't exactly priority keys, but were to be invited after PS1 vets along with twitter keys.

Changing the general graphics settings to Medium and set render quality to 0.85.

Well kind of a disappointment, I spawned in and would occasionally get drops of FPS down to 5 for a few seconds. Went off to a small skirmish but that didn't last long. Came back to the base and it was literally 5 fps in that area the whole time. Just logged off, no point in playing.

render distance at -1 = infinity..which is why you are getting SHIT for FPS, your machine is rending ANYTHING you have line of sight to, this will bring most machines to their knees.

Changed my render distance and it helped my FPS quite a bit so now instead of low 10's I'm in 20-30 range but for some reason after 5-10 seconds I get a fps spike down to 1 for 1-2 seconds then back up and does this non stop while in battles.

beta is VERY rough plus it shuts off @ 12am CST which is like near the middle of my play time. Like I said, look up the crew above.
What I find strange is alot of beta players are capping undefended bases instead of LOOKING FOR actual fights. If its not prime time, I have troubles finding any sustainable back & forth action

Cert points are gained passively over time, as well as by gameplay. The more you play, the more you get... but you're going to get them anyways, so whatevs.
Also, word on the street is that we're going to see a Wipe soon. So don't worry about it. Certs won't be getting full attention of the dev/design team for another week or so.
Protip: Spend your first few certs on accessing new things, not modifications of things you've got, with the exception of your optics for Rifles, SMGs, and MGs.
You gain a cert point every 1000xp and passively every hour online or offline.

cert grind is way to extreme now, I would be ok with it for release but during beta when you know your grind is going to be reset. cba to play, its still fun yes but might aswell wait until release.
I don't really see it as a grind...I just play with a group and have fun.
I take risks with certs I'm unsure off so I can test it and decide if it's any good for actual release. Now Auraxium takes forever.
Now for the painful part - with next week's patch and certification point rebalance we will be doing a character wipe. Next week's patch is going to be really exciting, we'll be adding Esamir to the game as well as ungating almost all of the remaining certs and solidifying cert point costs across the board. So this week, enjoy the fast cert point gain, try out lots of certs and let us know what works well, what works too well, and what doesn't work at all.

Wish there was a bit more faction balance. Don't know why they haven't upped the goddamn underdog faction rewards. Trying to test Esamir but the map is 90%+ NC and TR and VS are just getting Warpgate camped. Kind of hard to test it like that.
I think faction balancing rewards are ok as long as one faction isn't being locked in it's warpgate. At that point it's very hard to actually go and retake a region. They should buff the defense systems around those bases. Even with invulnerable anti air/armor turrets maybe.
Yeah that would be cool. Also, they need to cut resources in both continents and make it so that you gain resources from both continents, no matter where you play, because right now you're only getting resources from the continent you're on, which makes it extremely hard for factions to break out of Warpgate camping.

Yeah, personally i feel unless either SOE or the commnity better encourage combined arms operations the balancing will just result in a continual buff/nerf cycle.
I didn't play for quite some time now, just tested Amerish a bit. Trying not to overdo it before the actual release, just saving myself for it. No point in playing so much while it is still in beta.
- Players will have basic health regeneration, this will kick in about 20 seconds after you've taken damage and take about 40 seconds to fully heal a very hurt player. It's not meant to replace combat health regen (like med kits, or medics)

This makes medics less wanted, I liked having to rely on a medic to heal me up... Now longer range fights will result in fight till HP drops to 20% and then hide for a minute to heal up..
Playing an infiltrator as an actual saboteur/spy behind enemy lines is very cool, but actually crossing the lines without getting killed can be a challenge in some situations.

Based on a lot of feedback on the current weapon cert prices being too high from a time investment point of view, we're going to be making some adjustments to both cert gain rate and cert costs for weapon unlocks. This will affect both vehicle and infantry weapons.
Some notes:
1 - Our goal here is to reduce the overall time investment for weapons by about 30% on the top end weapon unlocks.
2 - StationCash prices are remaining exactly where they are.
We're doing two things to accomplish this change.
First, we'll be changing the XP:Cert ratio to 250:1. So you'll be earning cert points twice as fast as the current build.
Second, we'll be adjusting many of the cert prices to compensate for this increase, most certs for things like class abilities,attachments, etc. will be doubling to maintain the same overall time investment as current, but weapon certs will be increasing by a smaller amount or in some cases staying the same, effectively reducing the total time investment for unlocking items. The new weapon cert costs will be:

Im a sniper, i wanted to play as VS but thier free sniper rifle is shit. Switched to NC which has a powerful free sniper rifle its pretty fun. I got a 12 kill kill-streak with it today. Sniping still somewhat hard as you have to headshot someoen to kill them in one shot, if they dont die they just run away.
I'm still unsure about my class, but probably I'll focus on LA first. Jumping over shields and walls or entering buildings from second floor is pretty cool. But I also like engaging enemies at long range due to my shitty computer can have some fps drops in heavy close quarter fights. That's why I have a x3.4 scope attachment but of course TR's carbine isn't meant to be effective at very long distances.
Also, is anyone interested in being a squad leader with that spawn beacon thing? Just wondering :D
Was really fun yesterday with the CRPG guys, the Crown battle was awesome although it went down quite fast. The other battles were also great. At this one base the VS were trying to get inside from one side and they were all infantry, had no tanks outside. So I spawned a lightning, got to their flank unnoticed somehow and just started spamming at their zerg that was camped at the entrance, I believe I got about 12 certs in under a minute :D When I died I was still getting spammed by this and that bonus/killstreak xp for like 30 seconds.I think that one other base was more awesome, and biolabs had really great melee :D
Also bought this SABR-13 assault rifle for 700SC (1000 certs) and it's fucking sick.
Any other recommendations ?

Recommendations for what exactly? Medic guns? Only tried the one you get at start and SABR-13, I picked SABR-13 because it had more damage and burst fire rifles are usually better at long ranges.

Those stat bars on guns help you shit, it'd be way more satisfied with raw numbers but I doubt we'll be seeing that anytime soon.
In your case I would pick a class you'll be spending the most time with, get the gun for it that suits your gameplay. Perhaps also pick a preferred vehicle and buy the main gun for that as well. Mind you that most infantry guns are a sidegrade, where as for example buying Rocket pods for the fighter jet is a HUGE upgrade from the normal cannon. (think you also get to keep the main cannon, so it's basically an addition).
One thing I would recommend, If you're a non-NC infiltrator, is to get the high damage bolt action sniper rifle. Those semi autos kill in like 3-4 hits, and every person out there is going to hide after you've hit them twice.
I can't really decide what would be the best weapon combo for the prowler. I like the HEAT rounds a lot, but they don't do a great deal of damage to vehicles. I will probably go for AP, but idk how much splash dmg it does. Any suggestions?
Maybe I should just pick a shotgun.

Anyway, it seems that most of the time we were fighting VS. Don't know what the NC were doing, probably wanking at the warpgate. But the territory was pretty evenly split and the faction population on Woodman is 33% 33% 33%, which is incredibly balanced.

Engineer and infiltrator let you play the dumb and the clever way. The engineer has a lot of possibilities like being a support ammo carrier for a squad and placing turrets (what I tend to see as the dumb way to play it) or rather playing the vehicule game. The infiltrator can be just another sniper with a bolt action rifle 500m away from the action (kinda dumb), or a stealthy sabotager/flag capper or even a mobile rifleman.
Wanted to be Vanu, but all my mates already rushed to the puny Terran side, so I'm wearing red now as well. :|
Thumbs up for the TR infantry starter bundle ! The 2 round burst rifle for the combat medic is badass and works very well at all ranges. I also like the machine gun, it only has mags of 50 but reloads and fires very quickly. There's one weapon per type and I think I prefer the new one for all the classes.
Finally, whenever you can unlock the NV scope for your weapon, do it.

We aren't done optimizing. We have tons of optimizations in the works, and a team of guys working on them.
We meet about them every day, sometimes multiple times a day. We review what you're saying.
As long as the frame rate is low, none of us are going to rest easy.
I personally have a system that I play on that is only getting 25fps in fights, and I refuse to upgrade the hardware... so this effects MY personal K/D ratio.
So any rumor that we don't care about a particular type of hardware, or aren't optimizing... squish it.
There is no conspiracy, and no rest. We simply have a lot of work to do.
If you hear someone saying it's easy, have them show you their game with hundreds of people and dozens of vehicles within a single 100 meter firefight. I'd happily accept their advice. *grin*
Tell them to ask someone who was in the original tech test how frame rate has advanced since then. That was a few months ago.
If frame rates are just too low, check back later. We'll still be kickin and frame rate will be higher.

Imagine how it plays with 4GB ram, Q6600, HD5670.4gb DDR2 ram, q6600 (not OCed), HD5770. Plays pretty fine, actually, was playable even on medium settings, except for some of the more massive fights.

About performance : I aim quite shocked I start having FPS lag when I use high settings. I have a HD4870 with 1Gb and I run games like GTA4 with the top notch enb mods like a breeze... of course playing on a 1280x960 screen helps the GC. And if they say it's hard not to have FPS lag with dozens of people being showed, they have no idea of what they are doing, or they are using old technology, or they haven't really concentrated on 3D performance from the start of the project. It's totally understandable to have massive lags/teleports etc. but FPS problems with that kind of quality ? Common... Of course I'm saying this from a computer perspective. As a gamer I don't really mind playing on medium. It doesn't look that bad and certainly not bad enough to repel me.
About investing cert points, choose one suit per class and stick to it, then take the time reduction thing lvl1 for all vehicules. The first level upgrades only cost 1 cert so they are definetly a nobrainer. Then start improving your powers, tools, suits and cooldowns to lvl2, which should all cost 10 certs per upgrade. When that's done you can start looking at scopes and other class upgrades (30 certs), but only if you are sure of the weapon you will be using, which is unlikely.
Can tanks have improved front armor and side armor at the same time? Looking at the slots, it doesn't look like it to me.

Overall the game is very nice both gameplay wise and graphically (i'm one of those lucky sobs who actually have a decent fps rate) . We had a discussion brought up last night though. Some people (me included) really, REALLY don't like the interior fights inside the bigger bases.
They create this enormous world with endless possibilities for logistics, strategy and tactics and then they decide to make capturing bases the only goal in the game. I mean it is more or less logical and the smaller bases are ok, even the fights in front of the big bases ("courtyards") are more or less fun, but as soon as you go inside it all turns into a mindless meat grinder. Almost no tactical options, no way of putting your skill to use, just run in, die, respawn - rince and repeat. I really think they could've done this better.
This. I generally feel a lack of options when defending or attacking those small tower bases with 4 jet spawns.Tech plants are the worst. Massive interior, but only enterable from one side, with plenty of options for defenders to dig in. Always has the biggest clusterfucks that just drag on for hours until one side finally gives in.
Btw pro tip : when the situation becomes stale and you find yourself respawning, killing just one dude and dying, you are better being somewhere else, having more than a few dozens of people fighting in those base's interiors is useless.

The benefit of the game is that you can avoid the big bases and still help your teamLess certs, though. Best way to grind certs is to just shoot people like crazy, I find.
Leave base capping to the zerg, go take the side towers etc. it actually helps the team more than joining the meat grinder.

I am still suffering from these infuriating crashes. I can only play for 10 minutes max now, most of the crashes seem to occur when I have just died and am waiting for the respawn/map screen to come up.

PS2 is a memory whore. 8 GB of RAM and i still get massive FPS drops in big combat especially at night with all their lighting effects.

I think if you got a squad and concentrate on taking undefended positions, you will see a lot of +1000 XP.this is another stupid thing. you only get exp for being there in last second of capture, and NONE for defenses. ive like rambo'd posts captured points, killed squads and got no reward once i cant respawn back in the area.

Recommended specs are a 6 core proccesor if ur amd, or 5 core if your intel. That processor i believe is a 2 core processor, which would mean it falls well short of the 5 core recommended settings, the ghz isnt really that important nowadays just the core count. nVidia GeForce 500 series or higher / AMD HD 6870 or higher for graphics cards. 2GB of Ram is definitly low, however i cannot remember having problems due to low ram, but it really should atleast be 4 gigs, he does not even meet the minimum requirements for ram which is 4. The graphics card is fine i think.
For any game poor performance can almost always be blamed on the graphics card, while yours isnt great with a strong CPU it should be adequate. Its possible youd benefit more from a new graphics card, but in this case a CPU might help more when you consider the costs of upgrading.
so a good way to farm exp is just fly around, look for areas about to be captured and make sure your in the area at the right time.
I really wish I could play right now, I would even be tempted to join your fachist TR outfit.
By the way, if you got some leftover-SCs, there is a vehicle pack and a weapon bundle for sale. Just bought it yesterday, so i haven't really had the chance to try everything out, but from the looks of it, it's worth buying.
Nah, a good way to farm XP is Tech Plant, which is the equivalent of Metro in Battlefield 3, pure meatgrind. Biolab is a bit less meatgrindy, but also good. Bombarding infantry with rocket pods is also a good way to fast xp, I've been doing that almost the entire sunday, getting massive killstreaks :)

As for the game, I honestly though I'd be bored of it by now, but I'm not at all. And it's not ranks/certs that keep me playing, I still find it immensely fun. I guess it also helps that we have a regular 8-12 man squad running, because this is where the game really shines. I doubt I'd have fun for this long if I was solo.
Only gripe I have with the game is that there's little persistence/consequences for losing a base. If you lose a base you can just recapture it the next minute. I know this keeps the people fighting, but I still wish there would be some kind of lockdown once it's been captured. This also makes defending bases a bit pointless, and I'd love to be on defense more often. Would also love warpgate assaults and completely locking some faction out of the continent.
Base lock down makes for incredibly stactic and boring game play that simply encourages people to defend for fear of loosing a chain of bases to back hackers and being unable to regain them for some time.
Also Calradian RePublican Guard need to make our presence on the other continents more known. We're dominating Amerish 24/7, lets go get some snow cones or something. :D
I would like to suggest we get together for an official OPS night, where we give ourselves a target to achieve for the republic and see that it is done. Do some prior planning and get multiple squads involved if we can get enough people together!
Well IMO op nights will hlep people get better aquainted with the importance of logistics.
E.g. did you know you can eject froma galaxy and recieve no damage.
Basic things like that which help people to save time getting to the fight. Thankfully the new and improved tactical bus has reduced our logistical problems. I may start certing into max as well as LA after all the meat grinders we keep gettign into. :D

Actually I found out that a lot of people are turned off by Planetside 2 after their first session, which is completely understandable. They don't know where to go, they don't know where the fire is coming from, they don't know what to do and they get, at least that's how it appears to them, shot down in a second. The no tutorial hot drop randomly in the world part isn't very helping either. But once they get the hang of things and learn where to go and what to do, or even better, find a squad that does teamwork, the game experience improves immensely.
I think I'm getting a bit tired of the Assault Rifle I've been using exclusively on my medic, the SABR-13. It's a shame because I just spent 100 certs on the compensator >_>. I just don't dig the 2 round burst fire anymore, it's good for range but not that great for CQC. I really miss full auto, so I'm gonna get another gun.
In other news, think we hit the record on how many of us from the great Calradian RePublican Guard played yesterday in a platoon, there was 16 of us. It's good that Tomas took the initiative and actually led the platoon, otherwise people would be running left and right on their own. This reminds me, Tomas needs to put up priority speaker on TS, I'm hearing a lot of non-relevant chatter, which I don't mind, but when the platoon leader is speaking everyone should be able to hear him. It'll help organize faster.
Otherwise a good play session, even though I only stayed till the server restart. We're still slow on regrouping/gathering on points, but we'll iron that out.

It really is awesome. Problem is, all the wikis are outdated and don't match the data in the spreadsheet, so I can't minmax theorize while at work, because I'm not sure how it is in-game and whether this data relates to the weapon stat bars displayed in-game. The horror.

K/d doesn't mean shit in this game, and by extension, score doesn't either. I've not been very useful today and I got more certs than yesterday, yet I captured like 10 points yesterday, usually with only a handful of people. Setting up a mana turret inside a biolab spawn litterally got me 15 free kills or something.
When I see people that look like that, I can't help but to feel sorry for the probable parents or grandparents that got robbed to buy a skull mask in a video game :lol: It's true the Vanu are waaaaay less subject to this phenomena than the NC though and given the factions background and appeal, that isn't surprising at all.
Lol, except that I'm 26, have a job and a son of my own who no doubt will be asking me to buy him items in games in over a decade :lol:. The actual Station Credits I used to buy my stuff I got when I bought the Alpha Squad package during Beta. I'll probably also get a few more Station Credits to buy more weapons in the future ( and maybe to make some of my other classes look cooler than yours :lol: ), there's no way I'm saving up 700+ certs to buy one weapon lol, I just don't have the time or the patience and Sony knows this, which is how they'll make money from me on top of Premium, lol.
Btw if you really play to farm certs, 700+ cert items are not that hard to get. You can get 100 certs per playtime hour if you do it right. Of course that's not the most strategically productive playstyle.

Just about getting my head around this. Trying to figure out which class I like most so I can stick to it. Decided against recon, heavy assault seems ok and light assault is maybe to light. But have yet to try medic/engi.
I usually go with engineer for versatility or light assault for mobility. My favorite thing right now though is the bombers/galaxy transports so engineer is the best class for that. It's fun working with a crew and if you can stop to repair occasionally it's possible to survive a really long time.
I like the moments in this game when everything aligns perfectly, usually due to luck and some spontaneous teamwork. Yesterday on the desert map there was a mountaintop base on the edge of a cliff with a lot of enemy infantry defending it against a couple of our infantry attacking uphill. There must have been about 20 of them fanned out in a line behind some rocks with medics and engineers resupplying them, I think it was a large outfit because they seemed really coordinated. Anyway, a galaxy dropped 11 of us from high altitude onto a roof right behind them and most of them were firing in the other direction and didn't see us land! We just completely ripped them apart.
That sounds cool and all, but 500 certs is just insane of a price for such a basic feature

Pfft battlefield 3. The fighters in planetside are more like the ones from battlefield 2142. Though these are much more maneuverable.

I unlocked flares and composite armor for the liberator (doing a lot of liberator sweeps with an IRL friend) but hell they need to buff flares. A lot. The cooldown is just ridiculous right now (40 seconds or something).
The problem is that the massive infantry whine on the soe forums is overshadowing reality, players crying on the forum basically because they getting killed by aircraft. When there is AA and enemy fighters around it's massively difficult to get a full rocket strafe onto a decent target, so if the enemy doesn't have air support + AA then they should fucking suffer, that's common sense and I don't see the issue, it's the same as when Infantry with no Anti-tank get caught out by a tank.
I feel that the game would benefit from some restrictions on aircraft like there are on tanks right now, as in, there being Airbase bases, that your faction must possess to deploy the heavier aircraft anywhere outside of Nexus. Currently, all sorts of aircraft are much more common than MBTs on the field, i think it screws with the balance somewhat.

Been playing quite often recently and I'm enjoying it a hell of a lot.
My only grievance has got to be with the "materialisation/dematerialisation" of enemies. By that I mean, as you're lining up a shot, an enemy disappears from site, just vanishes, I can understand if they ran out of the rendered area but not when they're on the same platform that you're on. Also, the opposite, I was sitting around chatting away on teamspeak when someone literally appeared 20 foot away, this has happened more than once. I assume it's something to do with how the server manages all the gunfire, by giving you a set number of people to fight against but does it really have to add people all of a sudden?
I know I'm not the only one that has trouble with this but I will say that its a minor issue for an overall very good game, I can live with the odd rage inducing missed shot due to dematerialising enemies to be honest.

- Decrease to the inner explosion radius: 3m to 1.5m. This is the center of the rocket explosion where the maximum damage occurs, so this will not affect direct hits. Effectively this makes the damage falloff at the center of the rocket pod explosion start closer to the center.

I feel like the effective radius for a lot of the HE vehicle weapons is some weak bullshit. Not just the rocket pods in the video above, but the HE cannon that the light tanks have can take upwards of 6 rounds to kill a single infantry from what I've seen/experienced. Not that I'm really complaining, I mainly play inf, but it must really make some people mad.

For framerate issues, I highly recommend the useroptions.ini settings that were previously mentioned, except I upped the view distance to 2000 (its better when using aircraft).

As you may have heard this weekend we are running a double xp weekend to say thanks for your patience during our launch. Our stability is in good shape now. Client crashes are down 95%. We have a patch coming next week to address a bunch more bugs and make some balance changes Matt Higby mentioned in another post. In addition we will be making big improvements in the infantry render distance issue. We get that it isn't good sometimes so this will be a big improvement. We also have a new anti vehicle weapon coming.
We continue to work on bugs and optimizations. We have something we hope will be a big improvement coming in January. It's significant and needs real QA time before we can put it out. That's only one optimization. The team continues to improve this and won't stop.
In early January we will be putting up our plan for the next 6 months and open that plan up to your comments and change requests. It's not written in stone and you're going to have the opportunity to weigh in and have us change it based on your collective feedback. We are hard at work on a lot of cool stuff like orbital strikes... Vehicle transport.. And other fun things.
One other important issue I wanted to address - cheating. We are all aware of the cheaters who us aimbots and other tools. We are tracking and banning these people. I don't want to pretend there is a magic answer to this. We have a great deal of tools at our disposal and people who fight this every day. I assure you this is a top priority and with each patch you'll see us address more of the things we see and a lot of stuff that you may not. Please continue to report using the /report function. You may not see the drone strike but when the idiot disappears quietly and without fanfare just know our anti hacking team has no mercy and enjoys the job. Please help us fight the good fight and understand that this is a war and its one we won't stop fighting.

Horns are now available for the Sunderer and Flash! Check the Depot under Vehicle Gear.
New weaponry is currently being issued to all three empires. If you are looking for a new light machine gun or assault rifle, head to the Depot and check them out.
A number of changes have been made to Vehicle and Aircraft weaponry. Please see the Vehicle notes below.
Fixed a few crash bugs and provided some optimizations to improve gameplay.
Players may now make multiple characters on the same server.
Notable Bugfixes:
The NS-11 Platinum should now properly unlock medals.
The Facebook Promotional Weapons should now properly unlock medals.
Players should no longer be able to spot enemies without a line of sight.
The Gauss Compact S will now provide players the ability to aim down sights and strafe more accurately.
Destroying enemy terminals will no longer provide a Kill stat.

The Ursa light machine gun will provide a slightly lower rate of fire but extreme accurate fire.
General Weaponry:
Tank mines can now once again be deployed by throwing them reverting the change made last week.
Lock on Rocket Launchers will no longer fire without a lock on.
Extended ammunition attachments will no longer provide more ammunition capability than intended. They all will now provide 4 more rounds.
A small increase in movement accuracy with iron sights was made on on slower assault rifles, carbines, and light machine guns.
A small decrease in movement accuracy was made with the 40 round assault rifles and carbines.
The NC Gauss and Gauss S now have increased projectile speed.
The Cycler TRV now has reduced hip fire accuracy.
The Razor GD-23 now has reduced recoil for the first shot.
The TR CARV and CARV S now have increased equip time.
The LA80 projectile speed has been reduced to put it in line with the other empire sniper rifles.

M20 Drake: Previously the M20 Basilisk, this weapon has increased top end damage. It also has a longer range before damage fall off occurs.

Magazine size has been reduced from 10 to 6.
Magazine size certifications now 1 round per rank increase.
Projectile speed has been increased
Direct hit damage has been increased

A30 Walker: This is now the air variant of the Walker weapon system.
The reticule and first person tracer have been changed to make them easier to see.

Blast radius in which maximum damage occurs has been reduced. This does not change the size of the blast radius.

Damage has been increased at close ranges.
Magazine size has been increased to 50.
Reaver Air Hammer:
The projectile spread has been tightened up.

The Lightning Skyguard Turret has increased projectile speed and it's reticule has been adjusted to use the Terran Republic Burster MAX reticule.

The main shields at Tech Plants are now operated by two generators in the outlying buildings. These shields now have icons that display the status of the generators.
Frosbite Harbor Spawn Room now has a pain field.
The grav pads at the Dahaka Amp Station western forward spawn are now functional.
Players are no longer able to spawn at Sungrey Amp Station when the SCU has been destroyed.
Enemy projectiles will no longer go through the Biolab Gate Shields.
Players still in a vehicle once the pilot has logged off will no longer disconnect.
The Phalanx Turret has increased projectile speed and it's reticule has been adjusted to use the MAX burster reticule.
UI:
The Regen benefit of a Biolab will now display on the Tab scoreboard.
All Heavy Assault ability items are now using unique icons.
Platoons should now longer state they are “full” when all squads have squad leaders and there is still room for more members.

I decided to start playing for real, rolled a TR soldier on Woodman, maybe we could team up or something even.
(Was a tough choice to give up the blue and the rock 'n roll damnit, but I like it so far.)
Please bear in mind that I have to play in a relatively small window and low settings, that really effects my combat awareness and performance, don't even get me started on the aeroplanes.
So I'm ready for duty, need any roles filled that don't require super-sharp reflexes? Not that I lack those, my config holds me back.

there's a specific line you copy and paste into your user settings folder in PS2 and for some odd reason it increases FPS and looks way better.

I disagree, having played NC and TR (and yes, I dabbled in VS) I can safely say that VS is by far the most over powered faction in the entire game. As NC I have no issue killing TR and vice versa, however VS is an entirely different story in its own as they have vacuum cleaners that shoot lasers with no recoil or drop at all. Their aircraft, tank and small arms are amazingly better than NC's or TR's statistically. The downside is that everyone in VS bitches about how under powered they are (kind of like two handers in cRPG) and the developers listen to them and make them better, which in turn shits on NC and TR.I have the exact opposite impression, i find the Vanu guns to have very shit damage and overall poor performance at close range. They do destroy stuff at medium-long distance, though.

The only real issue I'm having is that something is messed up with hit detection. I fire an entire clip into enemies, get all the hit markers, then I instantly drop dead, and on the "killed by" screen, the guy I emptied a magazine into has minor shield damage? Or no damage at all..

But one thing I found funny: You can kill a Vanguard heavy NC tank with two magazines from your main cannon, if you fire at it's back. I killed many of them this way, and was like ó_Ó. Is that the way it's supposed to be?

Yeah I love nailing infantry with it as well, it's great fun. I also tend to fly it more like a helicopter, so I got Hover Stability Airframe. Love it.

I think Scythes are the best ESF, at least when it comes to dogfights, they seem to have better maneuverability. Also we should do a joint air ops or something one day. Much better when you have another friendly ESF covering your ass :D

That's overkill IMO. I only bought the infantry starter pack and the vehicule starter pack (total 4000SC) and I honestly don't feel underpowered compared to people that have everything, except the c150 dalton for the liberator.
I would even say the infantry starter pack is not really a good deal, stock weapons being almost the same (they are more balanced but you can't place the fourth attachment) as locked ones, except the TR semi auto sniper which is IMO invaluable if you play infiltrator at all.

Crown is okay, I prefer the Mosquito though. Repairing it alone grants me tons of XP, with the Flak going on all the time.
When we were fighting for the crown, I swear most of the time I ran into Flak campers and I had to break off, then repair.
Get the infantry kill/ESF greedy chase kill, then roll the hell out of the danger zone.
Repairs gave me a nice flow of XP.

Don't hate me, I know the game was optimized with the developpers' feet. I can even sympathize with you, the days I had to fight with a very low comp are not that distant.
Have to agree with Vibe, Crown fights, especially defending it against insane odds feels awesome, you feel kinda heroic doing that.
I think the game in its current state is only a small part of what the Developers had in mind.. but sure, let's release it.

Update: I played for some time and experienced crashes.. of a different kind.
Stupid ESF pilots, am I a flyer magnet or something? Here is this guy, being pinned down in a dogfight, I rush to the rescue, and he manouvers into me when I almost delivered the killshot. We both died.
Seriously pilots out there need to get more awareness, or look at the damned radar. It's there for a reason.
Don't even get me started on Vanu terrorist pilots trying to collide, that's a different story.. :mrgreen:
Fellow pilots out there, would you recommend unlocking the A2A pods?
I trialed them but without a good hour or so of testing, I can't really tell much.
Most of my kills with them would be a lot faster just using the main cannon, but I guess against more enemies in the air, it would be useful.
I already got the A2G pods, and sometimes I use those even against air targets for the lulz. Amazing things, perhaps will get nerfed in the next update, who knows.
Maybe, for diversity's sake?
A2A is eez mode, it's good versus more skilled pilots that know how to dodge the main cannon

Happy New Year, I hope you all had a great 2012 and are having an amazing start to 2013. On the Planetside 2 we had a pretty **** fantastic 2012, but we're looking forward to even bigger and better things in 2013! I've said before that while 2012 was the year that Planetside 2 launched, 2013 is the year when we're opening up the afterburners and aiming for the stars. After a well earned rest the team is energized and ready to get back to "kicking *** and fixing bugs. And we're all ou--" er, oh yeah, okay, we've still got some bugs to fix.
While we were out we were still paying attention to the forums as well as twitter, reddit, facebook and all the other places you guys interact with us; we've heard a lot of your excellent feedback, ideas, concerns and consternation. One of the biggest goals of our team has been and continues to be listening to our community and following YOUR direction for what this game needs to become. We're going to be talking a lot more about this philosophy in the coming weeks and how community involvement is going to directly impact our development schedule & priorities as we reveal "our" plan for the next 6 months. For now, we wanted to address some of the biggest issues we're seeing come up over and over again, so that's what we're focused on for January's update.
Game development can be messy and there is always the possibility that something from this list may slip or not pass QA, and more details will be released on the specifics of all of these items as we get closer to the patch date, but I wanted to get this info out to all of you as soon as possible, so with that in mind, here are some highlights from what the team is working on finishing up for LU02 which will be released on 1/30/13.
General performance increases, particularly for lower end GPUs
Experience (XP) system enhancements:
Dynamic XP system for player kills, players who have more kills on their current life are worth more XP. Freshly spawned players will be worth a fraction of the current kill reward.
Partial damage XP for dealing damage to vehicles that you don't end up killing
Population XP / Resource bonus moved over to continent population instead of global
Better display of XP sources for things like defensive bonuses & population bonuses
Rebalancing of XP rewards to help support tasks
Server transfer token available in Depot
UI changes to emphasize score per minute as a primary metric of player comparison
Sortable columns on outfit management & addition of "last online" column
New weapon type for all empires: SMG
Short period of invulnerability will be added to freshly spawned / revived players - breaks upon game actions such as entering a vehicle or using a weapon.
Dynamic / player configurable colors for minimap & overhead indicators for enemies, friendlies, and squads within a platoon
New Hot Spot system that displays where active fights are occurring on the map
New spawn buildings with more exits, protected balconies and easy roof access to make them less campable.
Tunnel systems for amp and tech facilities to give access from spawn rooms to interior of bases and base walls without having to go above ground.
Making MAXes render more reliably at long distances for players in vehicles
AA improvements, notably flak changes for turrets and skyguards, giving them some better ability to aim, although not drastically impacting their DPS.
Fixes to missiles so that they more reliably detonate and actually blow stuff up
Air vehicle weapon tweaks
Increases to reload speed for certain HE ground vehicle weapons
And of course... lots of bug fixes
Whew, it's going to be a busy month! We know this doesn't address every issue that's been brought up recently but we hope it knocks out some of the big ones. Hopefully you will see from this update (and the feature plan for the next 6 months, when that is revealed) that we're taking your feedback and concerns for the game very seriously. We're here, we're listening and we're committed to continue to work with our community to build the best online game the world has ever seen.

Edit: I wanted to add that just because you don't see things like "metagame fixes" or "render distance" on this list doesn't mean they're not high priority changes or that we're ignoring those issues - they're just larger problems and as you'd expect that means they generally take longer to solve. Just because something isn't getting addressed this update doesn't make it lesser or lower priority than the things that are addressed in the patch. When planning an update we have to balance what we need to do with what we can fit. Those type of large scale adjustments are built from a variety of changes over a long period of time, not just one bullet point in one update note. Once we have the longer term plan out there for you guys to look at you'll see how some of these more meaty changes slot into the schedule.

These are all minor changes though... and nothing to make me want to play planetside 2 really. The whole game will most likely still be roll with the zerg and cap undefended bases. Until that changes I probably won't be back.

You get more experience killing people while capping a base imo.....capping undefended bases is boring and useless.
Also these arnt minor changes, they're actually pretty huge especially when it comes to defending bases.
The only change that irks me is the invulnerability when revived or spawn on a sundy but with all the flak they've been getting it will probably be changed.
Improved spawn rooms and invulnerability will stop spawn camping and make defending easier. Nerf to HE rounds as well will reduce the effectiveness of shelling and make defensive play easier.
They're also disincentivising spawn camping and putting a greater focus on score rather than kills which should help change the focus of the zerg.
The only two changes that actually slightly promote more base defending is the tunnels at tech/amp station and the xp change... and that's hardly enough for people to start actually defending bases. There's simply no incentive, there's still no actual indoors where you're protected from vehicles except the biolab. No to mention that losing bases doesn't really hurt, which is the biggest reason why nobody gives a fuck about defending.

Insane nerf "hotfix" released, things are all over the place, game is becoming call of duty because of idiots who don't co-operate
Just finished trying to hold esamir.
Entered the server to see a 75% VS pop on esamir and thought, hey why not that'll be a laugh.
NC quickly left after being pushed back to their warpgate, leaving VS with around 80% pop on the continent.
After 15/20 mins of frantic defence we lost the bio lab, leaving only nott amp station free from the depraved rule of the xeno loving heretics. Forsaking my usual jump jets i took to engineering, repairing the AA and AT while laying down fire with my deployable turret.
However i was but a single Calradian Republican Guard alone with what appeared to be the freshest batch of recruits to Auraxis. In a final bid to save the amp station i donned a max and went on a quick rampage taking at least 10 vanu out before being put down.
Then i left, came here and told you all about it.
My new love is the Sunderer.
I started certing into it, and I'm always blasting music on proximity chat, the people love it!

Players may note the following changes:
A number of Server and Client stability optimizations have been made.
The Heavy Assault Shield should no longer fail to work after respawning.
The Deployment screen now features top defensive locations on the continent as respawn points.
Instant Action will now send players to areas with more combat.
New players will now be placed at a spawn point in a battle instead of being drop podded in.
Liberators/Galaxies:
These aircraft are now easier to lock-on to with anti-air missles. By default you can lock on to them 1 second faster. This means it requires 2.5 seconds to lock on to an ESF and 1.5 seconds to lock-on to a Liberator/Galaxy.
Lock on rockets and missiles should now hit more frequently and are harder to dodge.
Lock-on weapons can only be avoided by the following:
Flares
Forcing the missile to hit something else
Outrunning it which requires you to be distant and burn a lot of fuel
A very near miss which should be very challenging

Performance is much better now than it was at release. Game has reached the stage now where they should have released it. I had a mild graphics glitch, but tbh i think panos was to blame for that.

Doesn't surprise me, tried yesterday for a few mins to test this new FPS improvements (none noticed), Esamir was dead.
I was in Pirate squad and we were fighint Vanu on Dahaka station, it was a crazy fight man, and we were holding pretty good, I had like 30 kills and 5 deaths when all of a sudden a guy called OneShootKill says, "All platoons spawn to warpgate we will go to Esamir to do some zerging" AND THEY LEFT!!
They left the killing to go do some zerging...idiots!!

Yesterday we have some fighting with WS near Ti alloy near Crown. Spawned go invisible to start flanking get hit so I crouch behind some crate pile to regen shield. Wannobs begin to advance and crossed me without noticing so I knifed them still crouched. Killed 2 HA and 1 engi with full of joy waiting for another meat. Second later I was dead. As infiltrator I attacked many people from behind score one hit with knife (2hits kill everyone excluding max) and then was shooted from pointblank even logic will tell that my victim will respond with knife instead.

They are working on it, but god damn it this should've increased the performance, not working around even more to get it back to the same place.

Seems like the perf drops some people are having is a bug, and will be fixed (read fixed more easily than improving performances).
I like the free color choice for empires (yay for yellow vanu), but I got used to the previous setup so much everything is confusing now.

As far as colors go, I left TR as light blue ( red is very annoying and I find it disorientating for some reason)
NC got yellow (it's one of their faction colors, so why the hell not)
And for Vanu I made a light purple, almost pink color for fun, haha.

I just had the most amazing kill of my game time;
We were defending Dahaka AMP station, seriously outnumbered and losing.
Reaver pilot hovering in the same spot around like he knows he's safe up there and nothing can hurt him.
I noticed this, and decided to make a bold action while we're losing anyway, why not?
Playing as light assault, I estimated my jetpack length and distance, then headed to the airpad quickly, he was still in the same spot shooting rockets inside A.
Then I went up and landed right on top of his aircraft, dropped a c4 charge on it, stayed on the craft for about 10-15 seconds, then I jumped off and pushed the button. :lol:
After that I fell to the claws of the enemy, but it was glorious.(click to show/hide)

For those PS1 vets considering whether or not to play PS2, all I can say is that you should try it out for free before making your mind up on whether to keep playing. It is not in any way, shape or form a continuation of PS1. It is a completely new game that simply has a few dozen names copied and pasted onto it from PS1. They are banking on name recognition to bring veterans back and banking on a huge marketing campaign and eSports to bring a new crowd to the game. If you're expecting a strategic MMOFPS where the point of the game is territory control, then please play the game to see for yourself, but you're probably going to be sorely disappointed.
TTK is absurdly low compared to PS1. Whereas PS1 was a strategic game of taking and holding bases, PS2 is a straight up frag fest. Most guns kill in under one second, and some guns kill in less time than that. It's mostly a game of who-sees-who-first. Gone are the epic gun battles of shooting and maneuvering to outmatch your opponent. The vast majority of the time if you're taking damage and you don't see whose shooting you, then it's already over. That's ok though, cause the spawn timer is exactly the same every time. No more dynamic spawn timers where you take longer to respawn if you're dying a lot.
Vehicles require no cert investment to use. This means that any character at any time can pull any vehicle from a vehicle terminal. This has lead to, what some players call, Vehicleside 2. Infantry, for the most part, are simply XP pinatas for vehicles. Sure there's a vehicle resource system, but it's laughable. There are two vehicle resources, so even if you don't have enough to pull a tank, then just pull an ESF until you can pull a tank again. There's only one infantry resource, however, so if you buy a bunch of grenades and still need some C4, well then too effing bad, but you can pull a vehicle so it doesn't really matter anyhow.
No lattice system. Bases aren't linked by any system at all. You can simply walk up to any base in any part of the map and start "hacking" it. Because of this, few people bother defending bases at all. Most continents are filled with groups of people actively avoiding each other and just ghost capping bases for XP and certs.
Very few people play for the tactical game. Most people are only interested in two things: Certs and K/D ratio. As long as they're earning cerst and have a high K/D, then everything is good. Those same people will abandon you in a heartbeat against superior odds due to the fact that dying a lot will hurt their precious stats. Rare are the days of a handful of people trying to hold off a platoon.
Second, the areas of a base which you need to defend the most aren't inside the base, they are outside. In order to keep the shields up on your base, you have to run outside of it to defend/repair the generators that power the shields. So basically, another excuse to die repeatedly to vehicles.
Base design is an absolute joke. First off, spawn rooms at all but one type of base are merely vehicle xp pinatas. You spawn, you look out the door and there's 20 aircraft hovering and 50 tanks with their guns aimed at the spawn door. You can go out the door and feed them xp or you can hit the redeploy button and fight elsewhere. Whereas PS1 placed all of the spawn rooms deep inside the bases, PS2 puts them outside of the base with the only option being run out in front of a bazillion vehicles to try to get to where they are capping your base.
Hackers. There is no dedicated hacker anymore except for infiltrators which have a mostly useless option of hacking terminals and gun turrets. This has extremely limited utility, and only the squishiest class in the game can use it. Gone are the days of needing a hacker just to get inside of a base and then needing a hacker to actually.. hack the base. Now you hack a base by standing next to a pole until it changes colors.
Cloaking, btw, is a complete joke. You're 100% completely visible to all but people playing the game on the lowest settings. See that walking puddle of water? yeah? Shoot it. Even sitting completely still you stick out like an orange in a basket of apples. Hey, that floating puddle of water shouldn't be there... oh yeah, just a cloaker. Not only that, but they have added persistent bullet trails to sniper rifles AND you can't fire while cloaked. So every time you shoot a sniper rifle you have to uncloak, oh and btw, I'm hiding right where the persistent bullet trail leads back to. Hey, yeah, I'm up here, you can just spray this area with machine gun fire now. Thanks.
Engineers have been hacked off at the knees. The only type of CE that an engineer can carry that other clasess can't are vehicle mines, and even then you can only carry and place two which makes them mostly useless unless you know exactly where the vehicle is going to be coming from. Other than that they have access to claymores and C4, but then so do several other classes. Also, they are the only class that can use the repair tool. Did I forget to mention that part? Yeah, you can't just cert into healing or repair anymore and carry those tools around in your backpack, now they are class specific which also locks you into specific weapons.
Gone are the days of CE'ing a base with your engie. You can deploy two claymores and two tank mines and then you're done. Not only that, but they have absurdly high resource costs attached to them, so don't use too many. No boomers, no motion detectors, no turrets... well I take it back you get a crappy deployable turret that you can fire manually, but it does shit damage and the COF is bigger than an elephant, you're better off firing your personal weapon.
Inventory. There isn't one. You don't get to pick your loadout anymore. Gone are the days of packing whatever you want into your backpack, you don't even have a backpack anymore. You only get to pick from an extremely limited amount of weapons for your character, and those limits are determined by your class. Yes, you heard me right, it's a class based game now.
Classes determine everything. You can play any class you want, but you can only change classes at a infantry terminal and your class determines what weapons you can use. No more certing into heavy armor and using an assault rifle. If you pick the heavy assault class, your choice of weapons is machine gun or another machine gun that looks exactly the same but has slightly different stats.
There is literally no point to taking bases with the sole exception of taking tech plants for the ability to use main battle tanks. Even then, once you secure, say, a tech plant and you roll out to take the next base, then chances are extremely good that they will "back cap" the tech plant while you're not there to defend it. There is literally no locking of any kind. Take a base, move on, check the map.. oh they took it back. The game is literally a giant whack-a-mole fest where you're running around trying to take territory and simultaneously trying to keep territory you took from being ghost capped while you're not there.
To illustrate my last bullet even further; the only base on three maps that has constant 24/7 fighting isn't even a base. It's a tower on top of a mountain. Why do people fight there 24/7? Because it's the only base in the entire game that's easily defensible against vehicles. Vehicles have limited approach options and are easily destroyed while trying to approach. It's the only spot on three maps where infantry matters more than vehicles due to the ridiculously easy access to all vehicles in the game.
Cert gain is absurd. Especially for free players. You're looking at a few solid days of playing the game just to buy another gun. Want to have 25% more health? About two weeks of grinding certs. Oh and that cert doesn't carry over to other classes, so if you want 25% more health on all the classes that you like playing, then go ahead and just be ready to grind just for that one thing for a solid month, unless you play 6-8 hours a day maybe. The cert point doubles with a six month sub and doubles again if you buy 5 dollar a week boosts. So 15 dollars a month sub fee, plus 20 dollars a month for boosts, just to earn certs at the quickest possible rate. Yeah, that sounds about SOE to me.

I don't think it strictly means that, but you know already that there's no benefit to capping a base that is not connected to your empire's main territory.

Just got this yesterday since I finally got a new computer that can handle it. Holy shit its fun as all hell.
I'm lost though when it comes to guns and shit. I dunno what guns to go for to unlock. I currently have just 1 char on connery as vanu. Just had a blast though. Played 6 hours yesterday. Was awesome.
Liking light/heavy assault. I suck balls at being a medic. I shot more people that I was trying to heal than healed. Thought I had my medic gun out but it was my pistol. A few unlucky people met their end that way. So to help my team I don't play as medic anymore.

I´d love to play it, but my problem is that I got AMD and not nvidia, and all the like 100 threads I searched about fps problems in PS2 said something like: It´s just badly optimized and they totally forgot to make it playable on ANY AMD system" ....
Actually this changed a lot.
Vehicle spawn time and cost has been increased while vehicle resource gain has been reduced. At the end of the day its a Combined arms game for a infantry shooter. Definitely more Infantry based combat but still vehicles a plenty at times, but only effective when organised properly.
Running everything on minimum except using max render distance i get good performance on my laptop.
So sony still sucks, PS2 is still poorly optimized.

I am in the deep green with my CPU, and when gamestar says they tested something, I trust them (at least when it comes to hardware/performance things) ... SO don´t tell me CPU is too weak :|
The part that I like and hate at the same time now is that aircrafts are incapable of doing anything worthwhile unless teaming up. When popping a lib or ESF you can't just go help at the first battle you see because chances are there'll be AA there and you will be shredded to pieces before you even see where the enemies are. Playing aircrafts is a game of survival and patience because you really have to find some spot where the enemy is deployed without AA to start being useful, and that is rare indeed ever since they introduced the lattice system. Unlike before, you simply can't fight AA back or even stay around long enough to do damage to enemies in the vicinity. All in all it's really unrewarding in the way of certs. Night vision vehicule optics also have been heavily nerfed with a much smaller range but more importantly no more white flashing on targets, so thermal optics have become mandatory if you want to spot infantry, be it using a tank or aircraft, but the range wasn't increased so it is extremely short.
Max render distance isn't useful at all, and you can get a nice performance boost by decreasing it. Set it to 800 or more if you frequently use air but anything above 1500 is completely useless. If you don't use air 300 is fine.
It's still not possible to play on a potato but you can get decent framerates with a 3 years old machine and good tweaking.
Yeah performance isn't really my concern i just love being able to see really far.
Also a single ESF shouldn't be able to have an effect on the battlefield, its moronic if you believe it should. As i said its all about combined arms, if people are stupid enough to forget AA then aircraft are effective.
Easiest way to score points is pick off sunders that are supporting a base attack, AA always seems to forget about them.

I played solely as VS until BR ~25 and haven't played much since. I liked the purple and alien technology background that they had.

100:2 KD was easily possible even on my shitty pc with lags and stuff. Tryhards like Daddy who alt-f4'd before dying in dogfight got even better stats
Go medic, find a massive biolab fight, get certs for days. Grindy yes, but not p2w. Infantry fights are fun as long as you have someone to play with, solo i imagine it getting stale pretty fast.

I played it in 1080p with a 4870HD back in the days. If you have a decent CPU it will work, you just need to read a guide on optimizing the game.
Indeed. I have one thousand hours of experience with quite a bit of flying and I still can't win a hover fight against anybody even half decent. It's not like I tried it a lot anyway, A2A is quite pointless and unrewarding. Besides with the current form of A2A missiles and coyotes it's not the optimal way to do A2A.
I am a well below average pilot, but my new favourite thing is to obliterate infantry with hellfire missiles by doing quick strikes and then hide/lose chasers in Hossin's massive trees.
I stopped trying to actually shoot anyone down a long time ago. :P
