Title: Epic Farm
Post by: Overdriven on April 26, 2012, 07:47:17 pm
Recent creation over the past two weeks by me and Lorenzo and a couple of our mates. No cheats were used...this is all proper grinding with monsters allowed! All of it works properly as well  :)

Very efficient, which difficulty did you make this on, and what do you plan to do after your industrial empire is complete?

I'm not sure actually...would have to ask Lorenzo as he hosted it.

No idea...we haven't planned that far ahead. We pretty much just make each idea as it comes into our heads. It originally was only supposed to be the canyon farm, then the slaughterhouse idea came along.

I got a semi-automatic wheat-farm.
I will build a full-automatic cacti-farm.
I also got a semi-automatic sugar-farm, that one can be full-automaticated with redstone.

maybe i will make some screens some time...

I've seen plenty of chicken murder machines, but nothing like that canyon farm. That's really cool and unique!

You guys should get Tekkit, it has a wide range of different mods like computer craft, machinery, equal exchange mod(alchemy, transmutators and philosopher's stones and crap like that), red wire cables(like redstone but way more flexible, SHIT LOAD of different block variations.

If you do that I will play on your server.

This looks very good. How does the automated pork farm work, in short?

Still working on it but we gather all the animals from their breeding pens, into a gathering chamber, then onto a harvester field. This harvester field is a sloped field with a water source at the top which floods animals down to the bottom, where there is a pit opened by piston activation twinned with the opening of the flood gates. All animals (except chickens *shakes fist*) are dragged down into a small 1 x 10 pit where they drown or collide into cacti. Their death leaves meat and other collectibles at the bottom of the pit which is a sort of 2d funnel shape. After turning off the harvester, you can turn on the depositer, which releases two water sources at  either side of funnel as well as opening a depositing chute. The water fl9ows down funnel and into chute carrying with it the items.

Killing the chickens is tricky, but we are currently testing firing arrows from depositer blocks (the ones that can fire arrows :P) at the point where chickens prolong their lives.

Thanks for the complements ;)

Well we have done some more stuff to the farm now. Nothing amazingly huge in scale. Some more complex redstone stuff though.

Elevator from Mine to farm house:

Elevator Redstone

Elevator Redstone up

Elevator Button

Slaughter house Chicken killing. The drowning and cacti wasn't killing chickens (they can kind of fly/swim to avoid the water flow) so we are using dispenser's with arrows to kill them:
(click to show/hide)

An inland lighthouse with glowstone (the connection turns):
(click to show/hide)

The covered walk way which spans most of the farm:
(click to show/hide)

Pumpkin Farm (nothing fancy):
(click to show/hide)

Melon Farm:
(click to show/hide)

The perimeter fence to stop monsters:
(click to show/hide)

Gateway:

Beginning to run out of ideas for our farm now so all ideas would be welcome!

Do you have a chicken farm as well as the chicken slaughter house?

Also, have you considered killing the chickens with fire?  If they die from fire then cooked chicken drops rather than raw chicken.  Not sure if this applies to other animals as well.

Holy shit!. I never played minecraft, but I watched some movies on youtube made by guys who do play it. You know, stuff like "how to survive your first night". But this.... this is ... well, it's had to believe you are able to build stuff like that! Will play this game for for sure, although my eyes want to pop when I look graphics :D

You get used to the graphics and there are mods that make things better looking. Alas we stopped all this after we finished uni. Less free time and all. Couldn't spend 6 hour stints in the middle of the night to build stuff anymore.

But cheers anyway...maybe we'll take it up more sometime although no idea where updates have taken minecraft now.
