As someone who has just obtained a driver's license after spending his entire life never displaying any kind of interest towards cars/motorbikes, I find it difficult yet essential to get myself into this thread. I expect to be showered with transmission, power trains, shafts, gearboxes, winter tires, steering wheels and engines.
Bit like Finnish Folk Racing? :D
Love the noise.
Perhaps this is the best place to ask around here... I'm looking for a ~$10,000 used car since my old one is slowly but surely biting the dust. Any recommendations for something on the slightly sportier side? I know it isn't the best to buy a "sport" car used since they might be abused, but at the price point I'm looking at it isn't exactly like I can afford a 'real' sport car anyways, hence I'm looking for a "sporty" car. I'd consider just about any make/model, I don't really have any brand loyalty or anything like that. I've been looking at a 2011/2012 Scion tC since it is basically a Toyota (so it'll hopefully be reliable) but cheaper and with a bit of a sportier look to it.

Jona 10k is a like an almostn ew car holy fuck what the hell thats so much money, also antilbitz whoever you pay for car insurance is bullshit, i pay 70$ a month for a v8 C1500 and 25$ for my 4 banger 90 celica. ALso I would not buy a mazda as they are cheap for a reason and tend not to last expecially if you live somewhere with a lot of snow (salt on streets). If you want something "sporty" i woud look for a 90s sports car (Z, Civic, mr2, Celica, maybe mustang, etc) They usually lose value because of problems, the Zs had ground problems and such. Depends on how much of a fuck you give about how loud your car is and comfort and such. 10k is a lot for anything not made in last 8 years, and is quite a bit of money so unless you make like 40k a year i would not spend that much.
yankee detected...
Looking on craigslist now I instantly found an 04 dodge neon with either a turbo or super and 80000 miles on engine, 140k on body, 40k on manual trans, for 9.
Any thoughts on a 2012 Lancer GT? It's a far cry from the evo, or even the ralliart, but I found an affordable one in the area with low mileage and a lifetime tranny/engine warranty to boot.
Btw I have a -93 GLXi Lancer nowadays after I decided to let my -96 Mazda 323 go :D.

Classics, thumbs up!skoda never imported the car in your sig I looked it up. If i wanted to import it I would need 4 indentical copies and pay a fuck ton of fees and I cried a little cuz it looks fun as fuck. I guess the closest car would be a Zastava Yugo but those are the shittiest cars sold in US in past few decades.
Wouldn't be better to hunt for older EVO? They're lighter, parts are a bit cheaper and they look way cooler 8-)
Classics, thumbs up!
Really old EVOs, like before 2000, are nearly impossible to find around here. Any early 2000's still cost a lot, $15,000 at the least, surprisingly. That car maintained its value really well, if only because it's so rare.
I'd kill to have a chance like this  (click to show/hide)
Just picked up that lancer I previously mentioned this weekend, so far loving nearly everything about the car. The only thing I don't particularly care for is the CVT, but at least when I drive around in the simulated manual mode it feels more natural. Thanks for the indirect recommendation Odin.
I wish there were curvy country roads or any curvy roads where I live :(They are the best. Highway/Autobahn is boring as fuck...

There have to be some if you drive for maybe 20-30 mins in any direction (without traffic ). Can't think of any city so large as to have perfectly planned out straight roads for miles and miles. Even from NYC you can find some nice windy roads with just a little driving.I guess there are some, but if you drive faster than tovarish Stalin expected you to, your suspension gets rekt. Our public roads make lava lakes with caltrops and rape tentacles look like a walk in the park.
You need to do something about the weeds on that airport of yours.
Sorry for all the photos, I resized them the best i could so they wouldn't be too difficult to see. and i don't know if anyone has any interest in any of this. but i figured i'd throw up a thread anyway!
Also, I rebuilt the engine in my grand prix because it had a pretty bad knock when i bought it.
Try to find a better ride.
Protip: You wont.
Awesome job on the Matador. Where do you find the kits for older cars engines?
Thanks, it took a lot of time.
the 350 small block in my Grand prix is a 74 year, which you can find tons of rebuild kits and dress-up kits on summitracing or jegs.
I had a shop build mine because i didn't want it to be stock, and i didn't trust myself to not screw up a lot of money worth of go-fast parts Haha.
also, do i see an Lt1 in that camaro?
yea 6 speed with a T top. I was looking at an 87 iroc which I really wanted but the body was just too rusted out  It's hard finding a 3rd gen camaro or trans am that isn't totally wrecked around here from the winters.
Yea I have an old bike that's been sitting for 20 years that I was gunna try to rebuild before working on a car engine, I don't have a lift either atm but a buddy does.
Check your privilege, rich western people. Your fancy expensive cars offend me because I'm stuck in a Yuropoor country with a rusty old Yuropoor car.
this is a semi-serious post, pls no bully
and a 6 speed??? that's pretty awesome for 3g's, I'm up in michigan and rust is a big issue. usually only find the v6 camaros
Yeah i didn't have a lift either, I rented one from U-Rent it for like 50 bucks i think, but I really should invest in one.
only thing i can say about rebuilding car engines is if you get an older one, the rebuild kits are dirt cheap, I think you can get a whole kit for a gen1 sbc for around 250 bucks, minus machine work of course.
You're from Russia?
And yeah, this white one looks quite cool (click to show/hide)
Thanks! it was many shades of blue to start, took forever to get it sanded down.
was that transmission you pulled out in the grand prix automatic?
Yeah, that's a turbo 350 i had rebuilt as it turns out it was about 5 miles from blowing up anyway.
that car runs and drives now, I daily it during the summer, but it still needs work. I built it more as a sleeper than a nice car. I might fix the rust on it, but it'll probably never get a decent paint job haha
quick vid of it at idle during thanks giving

my buddy had an 80's something Lincoln towncar, looked similar to the prix, big tank of a car but it hauled ass, I think it had a v8
Hmm we already have this thread: http://forum.melee.org/general-off-topic/petrolheads-unite!-the-car-and-motorbike-thread!/
I'm thinking I should maybe merge this thread into it. Objections?
