New GPU

Sooo looking at upgrading my old Radeon HD5750 to something nice new and shiny. It's done me well and lasted far longer than expectations (can still play FC4, DA:I ect on mostly high and had it for 5 1/2 years, not bad considering I bought it when around when DA:O was released) but with the release of Witcher 3 and other demanding games I'm thinking to upgrade to do those games justice.

I want to stick to AMD for consistency as my motherboard and CPU are both AMD and I found with my last upgrade that sticking to the same manufacturer limited issues.

So suggestions? Ideally a budget of £180 (250 euros, $275 for lazy scrubs) as the upper limit.

Nothing else to really consider in terms of motherboard, PSU ect. All those are up to scratch although may need a new case due to space limitations and the giant gpus that are out there these days.

Been looking at this one recently:

Or the 4gb:

R9 290/R9 290x non reference absolutely; if you have enough money, as amd supporter I'd suggest 970 tbh

I was wondering like last week why the price for the 270x wasn't dropping. Normally you'd expect a slow drop in price for this kind of cards. You know, middle range cards...

Did a bit of digging and found out that the 270x is selling really well cuz of their really nice crossfire performance.

R9 270x in crossfire outperforms a R9 290x while - at least for German prices - being cheaper than the 290x.

So, you might go for a R9 270x with the old board and when you wanna upgrade the next time, you'll buy a crossfire board, cpu, psu and another 270x which might have dropped in price till then. I think it's a good upgrade strategy. The gpu is confirmed to be partially DX12 compatible too, not for every single shader maybe but for the "big" improvement due to that "mantle" thing they wanna deliver (I know it's called differently but I am too lazy to google).

I am using a XFX R9 270x with 2GB atm. Witcher 3 on full Ultra except Hairworks and ViewDistance, Vsync on: steady 30 fps without any hickup...
It's a solid card for the "small" money. I'd go for the 4GB variant tho. Some games already use that much (GTA 5)
When west germany annexed east germany, nobody moved a finger too.

If you can wait until late June for the AMD 3XX release then you can probably find a few "fire sales" for the 2XX cards.
WSE2 gives us the key to a wonderful world of butthurt...

The R9 270X is a rebranded 7870 (so is the 270 weirdly enough).
The crossfire scaling is good, but it will have frame pacing issues. The 7000 series sucked for frame pacing. (The FPS is good, but the time between frames varies wildly)

If you want a new GPU with warranty etc, then I'd aim for a R9 290. It'll give a decent boost while remaining closest to the budget.

The 280X or 285 is also pretty good, but not quite the same level. (GTX 770 falls here too)

If you are willing to look at ebay etc, you can get a GTX 780 or R9 290(X) for around your budget. (Used etc)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MSI-GTX-780-Twin-Frozr-/161712677941?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item25a6d3a435

Watching auctions that end at stupid times is a good way to go, or looking for newly added buy it now stuff.

Oh almost forgot, AMD and Nvidia plan to release GPUs soon (24th of june), should shake prices up.

Well went for the 4gb 270x.

Wasn't going to massively push the boat out for a 290. Should be here Saturday anyway :)
