did anyone think that although sucker punch was an absolutely terrible film overall, some of the scenes were fucking awesome and would have been awesome separate films.

like whens she's fighting the giant samurai's I was thinking wow this is like an awesome anime adaptation.

I'm watching Birdy the Mighty. About 5 episodes in and it's not bad at all. I'd recommend it!

My point being, the actor is shit. Cgi is the worst thing to ever happen in films, it's fucking awful, plus it's a shit fight. I don't know what anime you've watched to call that a standard anime fight, but it's not. If you like Sword of the Stranger, for the style of anime at least, maybe watch Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade. Or give Kurozuka a try, there's not alot you can compare with Sword of the Stranger. Not that i can think of anyway...

For more like Sword of the stranger, you won't find too many.


I suppose you could give Seirei no Moribito a shot. The plot is vaguely similar to sword of the stranger and is actually based off of a pretty popular set of fantasy novels. The fight choreography is simply excellent and there is also heavy focus on individual character development. I'd even say the fighting takes a back seat to it.

It has  a touch of mysticism and spiritualism here and there, but nothing that would ruin the series.

On top of that, the protagonist is a female spear user, and this is just absolutely awesome. Adult swim dubbed it a while ago so you can probably even find it on Hulu or something. You should try and find the japanese dub though if you plan on watching it.  :)

Ghost Hound, very eery anime. It's not the usual sort of anime i watch, but i'm glad i did. Definitely worth watching (In japanese)... :P

yeah someone already recommended me moribito way earlier in this thread, it was decent not as good tho.

one thing with sword of the stranger was alot of anime series have some little kid we're expected to warm to and want to live but usually he's a fucking brat that I want him to die (ie. moribito, claymore etc.) whereas I did like the kid in sword, maybe just because he looked like link in windwaker.

Just watched Goku Midnight Eye, it seems very familiar so i've probably seen it when i was younger, very good old school anime. I've got some more cyberpunk stuff to watch that i definitely haven't seen, Parasite Dolls and Mardock Scramble, whether these are any good or not, i shall find out. I've also had Neo Tokyo for a while aswell, need to watch that at some point...

Edit:

Parasite Dolls is also very good, has some very nice animation at times, but that's also down to personal taste. It seems it's also related to A.D. Police, definitely worth watching. Altough it was released in 2003, it has more of an old school look and feel, which i definitely prefer...

Both are serious animes, with no kawaii (Especially the latter).

Eve no Jikan, 6 episodes.
It's a quick watch, but totally worth it if u into the more serious ai/android theme.
There is also a animation movie, but haven't seen it yet.
