So what mods do you need to turn this game from a train wreck into something actually worth playing? Let's get a thread going.

There is also tons of mini cool mods, most of those you could enjoy fall into one of these categories:

- some modders compilations (like Magnar)
- modify the number of turns per year and the pace of building/research
- unit modification (packs, appearances, unit size, etc)
- graphical goodies
- gameplay tweaks
- others



Just go to the steam workshop or to the TWC forum on the mod section Here and for hosted modifications Here and look for what you would enjoy.



If you want a Total War experience (huge battles and shit) go for Radious.
If you want a Realistic Experience (elite units cap, reworked battle pace) go for Artis.
If you're lazy go for the All in One mod by Toons total war.

Its really just a big compilation of many mods from different modders.

Toons remove/add/replace mods in his list all the time, but he seems to have a knack for graphical goodies and nostalgic TW gameplay pace.

Atm he uses the Close Combat major mod (forgot to add it to the list) as his main supplier but it could change.

Been using 4 turns per year since like launch, can't play without it:

I use insane difficulty, I made this myself so I'm biased but I genuinely think its really great. make me want to play the game alot more, especially factions like rome which are otherwise way too easy.

I also made this mod, I recommend it for people who want AI to attack them more, but don't want enjoy losing the game like I do on the above mod.

PS: I'm of the opinion that mods like radious, which have a huge list of sweeping changes, don't actually do that much. People suffer from the placebo effect, was the same with darthmod, people don't exactly test the changes themselves empirically, the mod notes will say something vague like "improved X combat" but not explain how exactly, people assume its better and not worse because it is described to be.

I'd had a peak and some stuff in the packfiles of popular mods, there are some good changes, and some bad - I prefer mods which change specific things.

PSS: radious unit pack mods are cool tho, there are alot of cool unit pack mods/reskin mods out there actually. its just the gameplay ones I skeptical of, but I don't have the time to test them all.
