As attacker you have what, 1 or 2 hours to reinforce?  (I think it's 2 hours), and within those 2 hours you can change a siege to a raid, or you can cancel a battle.  But you will lose all your troops and equipment if you do that.

Your best bet is to try and get a hold of the person/faction you're attacking and try to work out a solution.
