It's christmas and it's time of giving.
MERRY STORYTIME
- a contest hosted by your favorite badmin
DEADLINE: 2. January 2018 22:00 GMT+0
Intro:Welcome my friends
, and Tybalt. I wish you sincere and happy holidays already, may all your wishes be fulfilled. The day may come when 2017 comes to an end, BUT its not this day. This day we write!
And to celebrate Christmas, new year AND the incredible revival of the mod, making it literally even more popular than native or any other mod, I deliver you the Merry Story time Christmas contest! hurray!
Task, Rules and Rewards! So, for those who cba to read everything, here is what the theme of the contest actually is:
Basically, write a story and add pictures of your character. It can be serious, funny, disturbing, trollish, historically correct, whatever you like! I need you to describe me an interesting character I can somehow introduce in my book (see below). It might not appear there 1:1 as you describe it here, but I am very willed to let me inspire by some of your awesome creativeness! The more serious and book-fitting you make it, the higher are your chances to win huge rewards. If you convince me, I will reward you. If I think you had a great idea and put in effort, I will reward you too, even if I will not use your character in my book. The rewards will be given by 2 instances:
1) I choose winners myself. People who convince me, who take this serious and who put in passion and creativity will be rewarded directly by me and will get my personal items.
2) I put everyone participating into a poll and the community can vote their favorites.
This means, you can win twice! Rewards are listed below!
Also a reminder: Think about writing a serious biography, don't forget you could use it twice, once here for the contest and a second time for the c-rpg.net biography function!
level 1 (no artistic skills): cRPG characters!:
Write a story. I want you to introduce a character of your imaginations and describe it in any way you like. For those who are not skilled enough, choose your cRPG character and take some good screen shots of him in the outfits and the atmosphere you find most fitting for him. Post them here, and write a biography like story about him. You can write about his traits, or write it like a short story, like a chapter of a book with him as a protagonist.
level 2 (basic skills): Draw what you like! If you think you're able to draw your perfect character from your imagination, give it a try! A pencil sketch is fine, but don't forget to add a few lines about your characters personalities and traits as well!
level 3 (hard mod - true): Wallpaper time. Do a real artwork of the character you like, convince the community with your superior art skills and you shall be rewarded by a LOOM-SPLOTION
rule of thumb: the more visual art you provide, the merrier you have to write. A giant picture full of details, atmosphere and color needs no more words.
Also, don't spam, don't chat. Please post only contest relevant stuff, appreciation, questions etc is allowed, but please avoid any kind of spam. (I will delete spam)
I am confused, how is a contribution supposed to look like?If you really have no idea what to do, go look at this link, and imagine in-game pictures every now and then.
http://c-rpg.net/index.php?page=ladderhero#!?page=charinfodetail&id=428211#e.g. Add a biography, write it in short words, write it as a book introduction, write it as an application, write it on special backgrounded paper, write it as you would talk as the character you are describing (you're describing yourself), or, don't write at all if you are not motivated and just draw a picture of your character. Or even better, combine pictures and text.
Be creative, there is no template.
This contest does not really require musician skills or hard art skills, everyone can join in, you only need a good idea and a few minutes/several hours to do it.
You can literally make it a small picture-book if you want.
Again, it does NOT need to be cRPG related at all, but it would make it easier for you if you are no talented artist at all + it gives you the chance to introduce your favorite in-game character to the community!
Prequel: (skip if tl;dr) the info in this might be helpful if you are here for my looms
My train ride to university takes around 3h every day. At first I thought I can use this time to study, but I was taught different. I didn't manage to do uni stuff during that time for many reasons. So I ended up starting to write a book. At first, I used a lot of time to think about a solid background and an actual plot. I was happy with what I brought down and I was making a lot of progress quickly. Now, around 2 months later I am asking YOU people for help. But before I tell you what I am asking you to do, I give a sneak peek into what I am actually trying to write. Before I tell you, I have to say that I am aware that it sounds pretty generic, but I am trying to write it in a very different style. Also this is not a "life work", I am doing it for fun, not expecting anything from it. I also combine pencil sketches and text, which I like the most. Giving a raw undetailed visual impression on how the reader can imagine the written text and esp the characters is what I am missing in most books today. Soo, too fasten things up, heres a quick impression on how I would describe my work so far:
WELL; it basically is a low tier fantasy story in a pretty medieval or even ancient surrounding, the world consists of a island mostly, theres a few continents which do not really end anywhere. There is a few other races than normal humans but they do not even appear in the first 100 pages and are still extremely humanoid. The plot is not really important now, its pretty generic anyway. Anyway, the book is about a group of heroes around the main hero, me. As you can see, I kinda dragged myself into that GoT style of introducing a hell load of different people. I need my own character list for the details, otherwise I'd be lost already. Some of you might be asking what exactly "low tier fantasy" is supposed to be as I probably invented this term. What I mean is; there is some sort of magical things, but the reader doesn't even hear about anything magical directly in the first 100 pages or even more. And even the magical things are quite unimpressive.... No dragons, no wizards running around, no dark lords in black armor. However, what appears more often are e.g. "unreal" things such as 2,20m tall berserks who want to rip your head off. The world overall is quite dark and sad, its mostly cold and quite snowy, most people feel sick and the whole atmosphere is pretty morbid. Trying to make it as dark humorous as I can.
Well, this is actually everything you need to know I think.
What are the rewards? My personal offerings are

FAQ: How does this contest fit into Christmas?
- It probably doesn't, but the presents awaiting you do.
Can I donate rewards for contributors?
- yes donations are welcome, your name will be listed here as a donor.
I want to participate together with a friend/with my clan, is that ok?
- yes, you can list all participating players and give credits to the work they did. However, for the final community poll, I can only list the posters name and give rewards to this player. Its up to you how you split it up.
I want to write about a whole clan, a group of people, not a single character, is that okay?
- difficult, I'd say yes in general, if you convince me with a great idea I will reward you anyway, but you might not appear on the community poll if its too divergent from the main idea.
Is it allowed to describe another player from cRPG and not myself?
- yes. General rule: Make sure hes fine with it, don't drag his character through the mire, etc.
I think someone is cheating by posting a heisted picture/artwork/text, what to do?
- It is okay if the poster admitted that himself. (e.g. he wanted to write a made up biography or short story to an already existing picture. If not, please contact either me or pogosan.
I seemingly have absolutely no talent and everything I try sucks! What to do?
- You are welcome to share whatever you have made, I am sure there are many artists in this community who would gladly give you advice on how to improve!
I missed the contest / I will not be able to contribute in the next weeks cuz RL, but I'd like to!
- This thread will not be locked so everyone is welcome to contribute their art at any time. You might not get the fancy title/+3 looms anymore, but personally I will always try to reward effort in an appropriate manner.
I have already posted my contribution but I have another idea, am I allowed to double post?
- Basically, yes, but I would advice you to edit everything into ONE post, this will make it easier for me and the community to coordinate and to vote for you. It is ok to bump a thread to spotlight your edited post.
I would like to contribute something I have completely copied from another site/game/book because I think it fits the whole thread, is that okay?
- This is okay as long as you state exactly this in the caption of your post. Every contribution is appreciated, but this will not make you win any reward considering you didn't really put any effort in it...
My English is bad, can I still win?
- yes sure you can, but please post everything in English. Bad grammar and bad English should not be a hindrance for winning rewards! Any other language than English will not make you take part in the official contest though. Your post will still be appreciated.
What happens to posts after the deadline?
- depends, if theres many people who keep posting stuff, I will, as mentioned in the thread, answer good effort with good rewards anyway. But everything after the deadline will happen on my personal interest. Neither will you have access to the santa bag nor can the community vote for you.
So, now is your turn. Winning Loompoints has never been as easy before, give it a go!
Good luck and a wonderful Christmas time to all of you.
