Due to some debate on this matter I've been pondering the case of team balance for a good while now and decided some months ago to take map end screenshots for every battle I was in or spectated. This has now grown to 269 battles on EU1.

For easy reference I've collected this in a photobucket SLIDESHOW.

Feel free to post your own. As you can see this is not a place for e-peenery, so go wank off somewhere else if you must.

This is of course not a very scientific approach, but in the least it gives a perspective.

Looking through the screenshots I see a pretty even win/loss ratio, not the 'constant rolling x5 for clan members', as some seem to conjure up. I see a good deal of 4-1 and 4-0's though, especally before the new Master of The Field changes. But this has always been a part of Native and melee-based WB mods, balance often shifts to one side from pretty early on (not unlike many historical battles btw. where the 'rout' was half the battle). But then many again are 4-3, 4-2 maps, if you look.

I also see a bit of banner stacking but not really enough to judge public play as constant pub stomps, at all.

The occasional pub stomp do still happen of course, and while I remember my slight irritation years ago being on the receiving end I honestly don't mind losing anymore, it is part of the game and I guess I've just grown used to it going both ways. My interest in this game is in every single encounter, not the multiplier, which is not an altogether perfect system either way I think anyone will agree. Though constant losing is pretty annoying to anyone, certainly, especially if one's team keeps splitting up for no reason whatsoever.

At least looking at these pictures as a whole leaves the impression that the auto balance works pretty well, or at least decently. If one's team has won 3 rounds it is pretty often you are team switched or your team will lose, the balancer forcing one team to play with a handicap. But this also happens naturally, I remember this from native clan battles too, the winning team gets cocky and coordination suffers, or the losing team gets their act together.

General Discussion / Rain broken?
« on: March 07, 2014, 11:43:40 am »
What is up with rain? Feels like a lot more than the already ridiculous 15% chance (that only someone who doesn't play the mod regularly or at all would think is a good balance between rain and calm weather).

If we must content with the enervating athletics decrease please tell us how to remove the incessant visuals and especially audio of constant downpour when using WSE2? The sound alone can drive you insane map after map day after day, for years on end.

It is beyond me how anyone would think the way rain is currently implemented is anywhere near optimal, I can take one map with rain but more than that in a row (which happens constantly) I just log out.

Suggestions Corner / Loompoint respec
« on: February 27, 2014, 06:03:16 pm »
Perhaps allow players to respec a loom point at some interval, for example a reasonable 1 point per month or some such?

For those of us who aren't grinders, but whom just love the game for the setting and particularly the melee system, and wish to change our equipment once in a while without losing time, money and energy on the marketplace, to get that particular item we want, that isn't in the armory. It seems unnecessarily bothersome to submit to market discipline on a limited market every time a player wishes to do even the slightest change to his setup in a mod that was originally created with customization in mind, often finding the item searched for isn't even being traded.

For a more accessible, dynamic, customizable mod - for less hassle and time-waste. Can't see how it can hurt, and it will make a world of difference for the playerbase without destroying neither the concept of heirlooming (which arguably can have some merit in terms of accumulating personal value), nor entirely the marketplace.

Thank you for your time.

General Discussion / Ping increase after reset?
« on: February 16, 2014, 04:10:00 pm »
Anyone else experiencing this? I have been playing all day with my usual, never-deviating 30-ish ping. Then the server reset and now I have a ping at around 100, for the first time since cRPG changed provider. Pingtest and private servers look normal.

Hoping to somehow get a Chapel de Fer for the Sallet.

Probably the most necessary patch I've seen in a long time, this feels like a Medieval combat game once more.

Finally a slow, expensive, 15th century plated brigandine (that I used to wear only for appearance) acts like an actual armor (also against ranged) now.

Bless you, Tydeus.

A step in the right direction for popular history, I think, cutting through some misconceptions. Recommended.

Oliver Stone and American University historian Peter J. Kuznick, began working on the project in 2008. Stone, Kuznick and British screenwriter Matt Graham co-wrote the script.[5] The documentary miniseries for Showtime had a working title Oliver Stone's Secret History of America. It covers "the reasons behind the Cold War with the Soviet Union, U.S. President Harry Truman's decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan, and changes in America's global role since the fall of Communism."[6] Stone is the director and narrator of all ten episodes. The series is a re-examination of some of the under-reported and darkest parts of American modern history using little known documents and newly uncovered archival material. The series looks beyond official versions of events to the deeper causes and implications and explores how events from the past still have resonant themes for the present day. Stone said: "From the outset I've looked at this project as a legacy to my children, and a way to understand the times I've lived through. I hope it can contribute to a more global insight into our American history." -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver_Stone's_Untold_History_of_the_United_States

Game Balance Discussion / Decrease chance of rain
« on: December 10, 2013, 01:12:42 pm »
Set rain probability to 5% instead of the current 15%?

15% may not sound that much on paper but can easily mean that 4 out of the 5 maps you have time to play an entire day will have rain.

Suggestions Corner / Rain Penalties
« on: November 22, 2013, 12:16:47 pm »
Please remove rain penalties until they can be universally attributed to all players in a battle, so everyone can fight on equal ground? I'm not talking about different penalties for different classes but the fact that rain seem to happen client side not server side.

Something is definitely off when only a handful of players in a battle must suffer from pretty severe penalties that most others do not, trying to catch kiting archers with athletics penalty for example (especially if you've sacrificed a lot of points in ath), when they have none sort of completely ruins the feeling of a fun, fair battle.

Thank you for your time.
