General Discussion / Re: Is the melee gameplay staying like this?

Higher survivability in c-rpg is actually what encourages spam. People can sometimes shrug off a couple of hits, so spamming isn't as risky.

I don't think something like this makes much sense if you don't have actual armour hitboxes. (for example open helmets giving no protection to the uncovered face, mail shirts leaving the arms exposed etc.)

Game Balance Discussion / Re: cavalry & dropping weapons on impact

I don't think something like this would be a good mechanic. It punishes you for hitting the enemy.

It's not a punishment, it's a tradeoff. You have the ability to land a very powerful, unblockable hit (in case of both couched lance and 1h/2h against a horse) but you might lose your weapon in the process. (Making proper sidearms a useful thing for cav)

Well.... cant belieave im reading this shit post from devs.....

So..... more nerfing shit incomming?? srly ??

While you at it, using realism as argument.. make plate immune to cut weapons, implement sprinting, make all wooden weapons breakable, make horses able to kill players when bumping at full speed, make arrow quivers realistic and give them lower ammo ect etc etc ... i could go on an on....
I really hope the devs won't just implement this as cav nerf, but instead use the idea to enhance the way cavalry works in c-rpg now.
As for the realism...

The problem with making shieldbash do damage is that it is not possible to defend oneself against it in any way atm. (not fun!)

Game Balance Discussion / cavalry & dropping weapons on impact
« on: August 11, 2014, 06:06:35 pm »
Mounted combat in Warband always felt kind of strange and artificial to me. Weapons hitting horses or humans at very high speeds seem to just warp through them.
In reality the power of the impact would at least knock the weapon out of the user's hands or even break it.

How about making weapons in c-rpg behave in a similar way?

If the stab's damage speed bonus is too large the weapon would be dropped. Some polearms such as pike or long spear could be excluded from this, to emphasize their anti-cav specialisation.

6
How about having the bonus only apply when the piker is standing still? To simulate spear bracing?

Notice how this man isn't naked or running so fast he can run up the castle walls, circlejerk and stab his way to victory against 5 men who all hit each other instead of him.

The use of shield and dagger in a believable and manly way not possible with warband mechanics, so we're left with some retarded placeholder that pays lipservice to the fact that soldiers would sometimes use a dagger when hiding behind their massive shields and moving around the battlefield in a group.

That's why I suggested the animation change. That would make the dagger a viable option for very close quarters, or packed up group fights, but not so much for open field, or 1 vs 5 situations :P There is still the question if it would be possible to implement though

Nothing unrealistic about using a shield with a dagger.

About the animations though... how about reversing the grip on the daggers, like this :

giving them pierce damage, and making them unable to use the usual 1h stab animation?

Historical Discussion / Lances
« on: August 05, 2014, 06:28:32 pm »
So I am wondering what actually happened to lances after a knight hit someone with it. Did they always break upon impact?
I know the jousting lances were purposely hollowed out, but what about lances like this

?
Would the rider be able to pull it out of the enemy's body and use it again if it didn't break?

Rolling in full plate armor is utter bullshit im my blind eyes.
Why, what's wrong with that?

Having a poleaxe on your back while lancing shouldn't really be possible. But as it is it should at least follow the laws of gravity, and have the bulk of the axe head hang downwards (same on foot). Always wondered why it turned that way.
Because otherwise how the fuck would you be able to carry it on your back? It would just slide off the belt/buckle/whatever fantasy fake thing holds it there atm.

I tried to bump infantry during my driving course, but the instructor wouldn't let me for some reason.

It was most plated men. Normally a saddle would protect it, so there was little need for a rather uncomfortable piece of metal between your legs :P
