General Discussion / Maximum immersion
« on: February 17, 2014, 11:08:05 pm »
I recently started to play like this:
- banners off on friends and foes alike
- ctrl + h

This means you can't tell friend from foe, which means you have to play defensively, and see if the dude running at you actually attacks or just passes you by. It's a lot of fun. It also encourages team play, because it works best if you follow someone you are certain is a friend, then attack the same dudes together.

If you want, first person view for even more immersion, but personally, I like to look at my character's ass.

Suggestions Corner / Definitive Poll for Byzantion Helmets
« on: January 10, 2014, 03:18:25 am »
Alright, this seems to be an urgent matter of great importance, so here is the definitive popularity poll (you can lock the other threads). This doesn't mean the most popular ones will also get ingame, though, because popularity isn't the only criteria.

I've made some heraldic retextures of the tabard and the red shirt:

Here is a zip with the brf, scripts and textures: http://node23.net/zagibu/stuff/heraldic_armors_zagibu.zip

I also made some retextures of helmets, so that they adapt their color based on the banner color:

A friend of mine has released his first game on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/255300/ Check it out, if you like adventures. It has a cute, unique art style and some great puzzles. It's also very child friendly, if you have children already into gaming.

General Discussion / How to deal with forum trolls
« on: November 03, 2013, 02:34:16 pm »
Install greasemonkey browser addon. Click on dropdown arrow right of monkey head symbol (top right in FF), click New user script. Fill in the fields like this:

Name: cRPG forum troll filter
Namespace: cRPG forum scripts
Description: Removes posts from notorious cRPG forum trolls
Includes (One per line): http://forum.melee.org/*
Excludes (One per line):

Click OK. In the popup-window, post the following code below the header:

Code: [Select]
var trolls = [1,593];
var profileLinks = document.getElementsByTagName('a');
for (var i = 0; i < profileLinks.length; i++) {
for (var j = 0; j < trolls.length; j++) {
if (profileLinks[i].href === ('http://forum.melee.org/index.php?action=profile;u=' + trolls[j])) {
var post = profileLinks[i].parentNode.parentNode.parentNode;
if (post.className === 'post_wrapper') {
post.innerHTML = '';
}
}
}
}

Replace the array of trolls with your own list of user ids separated by commas (it currently only features chadz and me). Hit Ctrl + S and close the window.

From now on, every page request in the forum will be filtered by the script and posts of the trolls in the trolls array will be removed. You can easily disable greasemonkey by toggling the monkey head symbol in the browser (top right in FF). You can also disable the script, but leave greasemonkey running, by clicking on the arrow next to the monkey head symbol and choosing "Manage User Scripts", then clicking the "Disable" button on the entry for the cRPG forum troll filter script.

If you want to change the trolls array later on, go to "Manage User Scripts", click "Options" and in the popup window, click "Edit User Script". This will open the script in a new popup window. Don't forget to hit CTRL + S to save after having made your changes.

Guides / cRPG Items/Armor Viewer (cRPG fashion, now with heraldics)
« on: September 26, 2013, 11:35:20 pm »
IMPORTANT: If you have used the viewer before heraldics were implemented, you will probably have to clear the cache, or the banner won't be displayed on the heraldic armors.

Please vote on poll.

Hey guys. I recently played a few games on my steam backlist, but although most of them were pretty good, they felt like I've played them before. Take Dishonored, for example. It's really well made, and in theory, there is a lot to like about the game, but it felt like Deus Ex, Thief and Bioshock during large parts. Or Path of Exile, which is a really well made Diablo 2 clone, but it's unfortunately not more.

I am looking for something innovative, something that wasn't done before, or hasn't been done in a while. If nothing is suggested, I'll probably go back to Dwarf Fortress, Minecraft and cRPG.

General Discussion / How cRPG works
« on: June 01, 2013, 02:02:21 pm »
Maybe you have wondered how exactly it is possible for a mod to introduce persistent character data, when the main game doesn't even have it. I certainly have. One day in IRC, I asked cmp about it, and he was kind enough to explain it to me. With his explanation, I was able to reproduce the core of cRPG: getting a warband game server to talk to a custom webserver and receiving its responses. Of course, this is not really groundbreaking, as many other people have long since achieved this, and you can find a lot of information in the TW forums. I merely wanted to post this here so cRPG players have easier access to this information.

Historical Discussion / Master race genocide
« on: May 20, 2013, 02:52:33 pm »
With all those genocide threads, I wanted to point at the current genocide of the Aryan race that is going on in all western countries. Our women are seduced by sexy southlander flesh and rythms with the sole intent of destroying blond and blue eyed master race. Our children cannot resist the temptation of pizza and kebab and refuse their daily potato rations.

This thread is much more relevant than those other threads dealing with events that happend many years in the past. This here is a current problem and needs immediate attention! Ban pizza and kebab from school and force your women and daughters to always wear sunglasses so that they can only see pale skinned people.

General Off Topic / King of Spam
« on: April 17, 2013, 01:14:01 am »
Please, some forum mod needs to bestow the custom title "King of Spam" to Armpit_Sweat, for his great posts in the Spam forum. Here is an example of a great thread started by him: http://forum.meleegaming.com/spam/draw-adolphin-thread!/

Just browse through his post history if you are not convinced by a single thread.

Suggestions Corner / Revert heraldic mails to native?
« on: December 26, 2012, 12:29:41 am »
I hate the current heraldic mails. It was a good attempt to bring the symbol onto the chest, but the seams it creates on the bottom area are just horrible. Can we please have the native symbol placement back that has no seams?
