Yeah, it seems like most of the guys who don't have the scholar badge are pawns. I'm okay with this, though... if there was one chess piece that relates to my crpg playstyle it would probably be a sacrificial pawn. I tend to yolo into the enemy lines a little more often than I should, all for the glory/betterment of my team.  :lol:

Btw why don't we play chess with mixed pieces! Half-black and half-white, that's the least we could do to stop this rampant racism.

And before you start complaining about this just being a game within a game, that's just a stupid excuse to express subconscious patriarchal racial gender role stereotypes out of fear for "them".

Stop this us them thinking, this seemingly innocent black or white question reveals an underlying structural racism.

I thought this was about chess so I picked black. Yes I know that at the ceiling of chess to play black means you cannot ever win and have to play to a stalemate, but I like the reactionary gameplay of black.

It indeed goes pawn -> knight -> bishop -> rook -> queen -> king... not sure where you got the two kings or skinny pawn from. I can confirm that a pawn eventually evolves into knight, and I noticed someone go from a bishop to a rook. But screw chess pieces and their assigned values... everyone knows that knight is the strongest piece! It's the freakin queen killer!

Was gonna suggest using chesspieces as the Kickstarter badges, since a representation can be added in the pledge sidebar ♟♙♞♘♝♗♜♖♛♕♚♔, but I decided it's way better to have something more original and not add confusion by having different representations or anything.

Now I'm once again torn - my heart is with cav, but in chess, knight is my least favourite piece.

Rook is favourite as a general piece and I certainly have no problems with castles in general, but black bishop is probably the piece I most identify with, despite a general dislike for bishops as non-chess pieces.

I'm going to look at it as win/win and go with whatever I get (thus welcoming an eternity of regret).

I'm assuming this is in regards to the Donkeycrew logo as opposed to the chess pieces. A white donkey in black outline in the style of that logo looks like a cute sketch that's come to life. I think that fits the rest of the logo more than black does, because chalkboards are chalkboards.

But there are also custom horse skins in M:BG, if you look at $650 on kickstarter.
Pretty expensive though :)

But I guess you will be able to get one some other way later on. Probably through the marketplace.

I hope fantasy skins won't be accepted but they should definately accept all skins that actually exist, no matter how unusual they are.

12th Century Scandinavian (viking-ish) chessmen found on the western Isles of Scotland, dunno if the rules were the same but chess certainly existed in some form. Happens to be pretty close to the era we're working with, so maybe even pieces modeled on these could be a thing.

For reference these are the Lewis Chessmen, on display in the British museum.

The rules weren't the same, but the differences weren't huge. There's a major book on board games from 1283 AD Toledo, which I think outlines the period rules for chess.

Well, I don't see this happening outside a mod, but you never know.

As far as anyone knows, turned chesspieces weren't invented yet in this era, turning up only at the end of the next century, but Arabic/Persian pieces were fairly simple and standardised and this style was also still in use in Europe, though figurative works were becoming steadily more popular, from their appearance in probably the 11th century - probably most sets were still in the older style, afaik.

I think there wouldn't be a lot of point in doing it and not using authentic rules. If people wanted to play normal chess, they'd just boot up a dedicated chess game. That said, yes, there are plenty of different rule sets to choose from.

How about you do your homework first?

White is the result of the mixing all base colours of the additive colour mixture. (Red, Green, Blue)
Easiest to observe when having three lamps with those colours and you point them at the same spot.

Since this is all about light, black is obviously the lack of light. (Shadow basically)


Black in the subtractive colour mixture however is the mixture of all base colours as well. Use watercolours to observe that.
Mix Cyan, Magenta and Yellow and you get black.

Those three colours each take up about one third of the visible light spectrum and absorb this light.
So if 3/3 of the visible light is being absorbed, the result is obviously black.

Colour is only light meeting an object, that light is being absorbed, and thanks to quantum physics photons of different wavelengths is being emitted. An ordinary leaf for example absorbs the sun's light (All sorts of wavelengths, that is why it appears to be white).
That leaf then emits light of about 520nm, which for us appears to be green.

If you use no colour, no light can be absorbed and thus resulting in a lack of colour. (White basically, though since whatever you look at absorbs light of certain wavelengths, that object might not appear to be white. But the light initially meeting that object would be white-ish to us)

Yeah I know that, I did go to college in art. But we still don't use them as colors.

You know that we use both of them too to saturate colors so they can be more white or black? (both of us are anti-gay wtf :D)

I know by history that being gay or whatever is all about the perception of reality by the whole society. Just look at how people where having sex in ancient Greece. There was clearly a movement or something to shame it. (Religion)
