Ladies and Gentlemen.

I got excited by yet another idea for a round of big battles. I'll try to make some bulletpoints and then afterwards explain in details.

- The battles will be centered around a "story". A crusade. To begin with I image 3 battles with a size of 65-90 people on each side.
- The two sides, Crusaders and (saracens?) will have a group of commanders, I guestimate 3 per side.
- The commanders must prioritize the troops available. Each side will have 250 predifened troopers.
- Players sign up individually.
- We'll use the battlegroups system

More in detail.

The commander must prioritize which troops he will field in each of the three battles.
Each of the battles have a predifened number of participants on each side.
Each player must use a skip-the-fun character named as described below and then join the ladder group for confirmation.

What?

Lets say that 40 of the crusaders troopers are called sergents. A sergent has predifined equipment.
The crusader commanders chooses to bring 30 sergents to the first battle. this open 30 sergent spots for the battle.
each player wishing to join the crusaders as a sergent creates an stf char called Cru_Sergent_1 or Cru_Sergent_2 etc. all the way up to thirty.
First you report in that you wish to play that sergent, then you are confirmed by the commanders and then your stf char can join that ladder faction.

There will only be one round. This might seem weird, but the commanders may choose to retreat, players may choose to surrender, and "killed" chars have a chance to survive which enables the commander to use them in the next battle.

In other words. These battles are supposed to have three layers.

1) The commanders have strategic decisions on when to deploy certain troops classes and how many of them
2) The players have a chance to play across clans with a lot of people
3) The player have a chance to survive or die with several chars through a fictive crusade.

What do I need?

First of all, is this a good idea?
Does any of you want to try out commanding these things?
When?
After the summer, best guess end of september.

Game Balance Discussion / Rebalance and differentiate wpf.
« on: June 18, 2012, 02:02:38 am »
@ first a little st0ry:
Sometimes I go to the duel server and every time I lose. Especially to Bifi. After the first three duels he need a challenge and picks up a weapon in which he has no wpf. He still win. I still suck.

Eh?
Patience.

First something I consider a fact:
Wpf matters in melee, but not as much as wpf matters for ranged.

Goal:
We want hybrids to be eligible (Hoplites with sidearm), we want ranged that doesn't run away but stay and fight but we want to keep ranged bundle of sticksry to a min.

The how:
Differentiate the number of points you get. Like REALLY differentiate. As in a complex algorithm. Not a 1 wm gives x wpf. Nope.
Wpf points should be given with things taken into consideration: Is it going to be used for melee or ranged? Does the character already have a ranged skill? does he have melee? More points if he use it for two melee wpf's. etc.
We don't want builds that can do everything, and imo ranged/melee hybrids doesn't really need a buff, they are powerfull enough as is.

But melee/melee builds could use a buff and a 1-1 conversion of wpf points just seem to simple.

hep hep.

Strategus General Discussion / Time to consider strat XP?
« on: February 12, 2012, 07:06:20 pm »
I think one of the important things to counter in a new version of strat is the zombie/drone/clone efficiency. We want a system where one very active player is better than one who has never played. At the same time we do not want "too_much_grind".

I propose that every time you play in a strategus match you get a specific strategus XP.
With each "level" your strategus char can spend points on things like: Crafting points, recruitment points, Leadership (army size), movement points etc.
Opposite leveling on regular servers the leveling strategus levels are less exponential.

You can also gain points through the cRPG server. Instead of gaining smithing points (3) you get one strat level point. (And obviously current such gains are converted)

What say you?

Thanks for the last event. It was hugely fun. I'll try something a bit different this time.

We will be using the Battlegroup function.
That means that any one can use alts, no one has to buy equipment, no need for equipment checks etc. etc. If everything works it should be much much faster.
In order to make it easier for me to create the battle groups there will be a limit of 3 items per category the commander can choose.
That is three kinds of polearms, three kinds of shields etc. There will be enough of each item for each player except for those items with restrictions. (Typically the commander would chose a light and medium armor of which there will be plenty and a heavy armor which will be restricted etc.)

Draft. Sorta like the nfl or magic. Take your pick.

First off is commander sign-up. Anyone can sign-up. After some commanders have signed-up a vote will be held and those with most votes will get the chance to command a team.

When the commanders have been chosen they get to draft from the clans signed up. Commander A get one pick, Commander B gets two picks, Commander A gets two pick and Commander B gets two picks. So on and so forth until all teams have been assigned. Starting with the larger clans ending with randomers.

The commander gets to choose equipment within the same restrictions, however there is a limit to the differentiation (around 1-2 pieces of each eq type).

Then the commanders can draft from the Independents signed - up.

Important dates:
Battle: 5th of February
I expect it to be 19.00 gmt aka 20.00 cet. (be there 30 min before.)

General Discussion / Point system for arranging matches ala Warhammer...
« on: January 07, 2012, 01:05:07 pm »
Not really sure if this is the appropriate forum. It's not an event yet, nor is a suggestion as I do not want to tweak anything in cRPG. It's more like an idea that needs some input.

Basic idea is to create matches through a point system. Each clan signs up a unit of 5 persons. This unit is assigned a point value.
An aspiring commander feels like showing off his tactical skills and challenges an opponent saying he assembled 1000 points for friday evening... "can you assemble one so we can fight?"

The rigid way to do this is to say that each soldier in unit must be equipped exactly alike.

An example:

Antarian Panzerforce 500 points, 5 troopers
PLate, flamberge blah blah +1 extra trooper 100 points.

Druzhina snipersquad 450 points, 5 troops
Rus bow, bla bla bla

Modifications or variations
a) Each unit is allowed a hero who can equip differently
b) Each unit is allowed to use different equipment, but must always use the same 5 types with which it was first registered
c) Each unit gets more expensive as it has participated in more victories
d) The points value of each unit is done by peer review and calculating costs
e) A ladder for commanders

Does the idea have merit? Or just a waste of time?

Dear everyone. Happy New Year. And I am done with my BA :D

I sensed that the Large Multi Clan Tournament was a rather decent success so I believe we should try something similar, but on a somewhat smaller scale.

In essence I will try and gather two teams of at least 50 men each, if more are interested we will make it 65.

Basic rules:
1) Battle Last no more than 60 min + at least 5 minutes for checking equipment on teams.
2) Each round last no more than 10 + 1 min for eq check.
3) Sign-up will last until tuesday.
4) Each team will choose a commander before thursday.
5) Before saturday a team roster will be given to the three assigned judges
6) Battle will take place sunday the 15th of january, 18.00 utc
7) Equipment restrictions:
    a) No more than 10 cav, where only three of these may be heavier than destrier
    b) No more than 10 ranged.
    c) No more than 10 with an armor more expensive than 7k (aka Light Kuyak) 10k (banded armor). This is ONLY the body armor. There are no restrictions on gloves, shields, footwear or weapons (apart from ranged).
    d) or any combination there of, that is a horse archer in black armor counts for each three categories.
8) Each clan can sign-up for team a or team b with either 5, 10 or 15 players. I strongly recommend having at least 4-5 substitutes, as people always find excuses not to show up.
8a) I'll make team a and b with a few councillors.
9) 5 spots on each team is reserved for Non-claners. Sign-up here...
10) When the battle begins each type go to a corner assigned in the first minute of battle
     a) Upper right corner people with no restrictions
     b) Lower right corner ranged restrictions
     c) Upper left corner horse restrictions
     d) Lower left corner armor restrictions
     e) If any combination the trooper arranges himself in the middle between the two groups aka a horseman with heavy armor is middle left corner.
11) If the battle ends because of time is out, if a team has more than twice as many players +1 then the win will go to that team.
12) Cav may not delay battles. If it is deemed by the referees that cav or any other player for that matter is drawing out time to get a draw or any such similar the win may be awarded to the opposing team. A win cannot be awarded if the player has not been warned at least two times with 15. sec. in between (which in reality means a player can draw out 30 sec. legaly).

Any more?

Suggestions Corner / The League
« on: December 29, 2011, 01:04:36 pm »
I have in the strategus section argued for the disparity between the action gamer and the strategy gamer. Strat cannot satisfy both and often people respond to attacks in strategus: "You hate us? Why you attack us?" hence taking attacks personal.
Instead people try to make arranged fights and rpg battles to avoid "drama" and hostility.

An importat step to let strat be strat would be to create a league. A fully sanctioned official cRPG league with on-site mechanics.

The League would be wiped every half year. Have several categories (Solo, 5, 8 and 12). Awards to top 3.
Rules to be agreed upon.

This would require coding, yes.
This would distract time from strat, yes.
This would be a epeen contest, mayhaps.

Yet I think it would keep the community together, allow it to wage war in strat while being friendly in the league.
It would give the action gamer something to satisfy his twitchy addiction and give time for the strategy gamer to plan in strat.
It would give a goal for small clans, create events and hold a purpose for many players.

In short. When you get a new programmer, get another or have him make a league first, then fix strat.

Cheers.

p.s
The specifics of the league need to be discussed and arranged. My point is it needs to be offical, through the webpage and with forum medals and bragging rights.
