Events & Tournaments / Re: cRPG EU Clan League
« on: September 13, 2013, 07:22:03 pm »
Tenne is just starting an MSc (I think) and i'm just finishing one and start a new job on Monday so this kind of got dropped from our list of priorities :(

It is pretty much set up though and the only thing that me or Tenne are really needed for is to add new teams.  I'll try and get a Captain's guide written to help as well but otherwise it is going to be down to Captain's to drive activity.  This was the aim though, just need a few teams Captains to start looking for matches.  I know Tendalor has been asking around for Fallen so if anybody wants a match against us, talk to him.

hey. i have a question. it might be a stupid one, i am sorry if it is. i've only heard about this competition abd havent have any issues with it before.
i want to join with my team (but i am not  captain), so question is:
is there another season openning? have i got late or not for the season. is it opened for new teams?

P.S. this is not a complete application, i just want to gain some information about new season to assemble my mates.

The season is ongoing but you can join at any time.  So far there's only actually been 2 matches played but there's still 3 months for teams to get active so that isn't an issue.  During the season you just need to play 16 matches against any opposition, but even if you don't play that many matches the results will still count towards next season so aren't ever a waste of time.

To form a new team you need to show that you have at least 15 players and that you have your own clan ladder in cRPG.  If you aren't the leader of that clan ladder it doesn't matter but I will have to check that your clan leaders are happy with you entering a team in their name.

Diplomacy / Re: War on Apostates
« on: September 12, 2013, 09:39:08 pm »
People don't sign up for the Apostates because they know the gear will be bugged and nobody will be leading.  Its not because people don't want to fight for Apostates, but they at least want to fight in a battle which will be fun.

To help with this some things need doing by the devs and they are
1) 1/3 rule fix
2) Ability to destroy equipment (not goods) on the spot even when waiting for a battle after the reinforcement window is over.
3) smaller rosters (i'd like this in general but at the very least roster sizes for battles under 1000 troops need to be scaled down)
4) Remote management of fiefs (possibly limited to just the destruction of gear - see #2)
5) Rank 10 players being able to manage all faction fiefs and change ownership if needed (perhaps at a cost though)
6) Ability for clans to set a clan nighttime that replaces personal nighttimes
7) Introduction of server primetimes that override clan or personal nighttimes
8) Link XP to gear value used per side and not overall gear value used per battle to reward players fighting for the underdog.

Got to side with Greys on this one

If Tueten sets his nighttime like that then it was his decision to have a battle at that time over 22:00, not Greys.

It is still a loss of fun and XP though.  Even when the Anti-UIF was actively on the offensive and the UIF not so active, there was still never this level of inactivity meaning people were never robbed of fun battles or XP by cheap victories.  Perhaps the UIF is just too competent for this kind of thing or I'm forgetting some battles (not looked any up) but the list of shitty Strat fucks ups does seem to benefit the UIF a lot.  Yalen, Ismirala Castle, Derchios Castle, various CA villages in the Desert.

I'm not saying that the UIF need to or even should do anything about this.  It just might be nice to keep the XP flowing instead of taking advantage of others inactivity/incompetence.  Build up some good Karma and all that

Actually you'd be over 100% :P   I think it's cuz KUTT doesn't hold any lands currently, and may have made it harder for OP to find your scores.

Technically they would be at 100% since you'd need to have negative troops now to have less total troops than you lost :P

If I was including every dead clan though I'd have around 50 of them on 100% making the whole thing even more rubbish than it is.  What I'd actually need to do is work out daily scores and average them over the entire round.  That would need automating though as nobody in their right mind would want to do that manually :D

It is a general battle activity score (both defensive and offensive) not a competency score.

This is why renown needs changing to reflect relative equipment lost by armies.  As then we can actually see how well clans do with the resources (both tickets and money) they have available.

One thing though.. As a percentage of troop usage wouldn't you need to take into account fief garrison
(Each fief needs to be protected therefore the more fiefs you have the greater the number of 'unused' troops needs to be).

Say for example 1000 troops for a village, 3000 of a castle and 5000 for a town are troops which are currently being used to protect against invasion. (any troops above this level are the 'excess' troops which could be used for battle etc)

I experimented with that but that is affected too much by current circumstances.  For example right now FCC and Apostates have an unnaturally large number of troops per fief because they are on the defensive.  In a week/month/whatever the situation could have completely changed making any score i create today completely out dated.  The simple troops_lost / total_troops calculation takes into account the past though and so is more accurate (relatively speaking ofc ).

What I really want to do is renown / total_troops where renown is calculated based on each army's gear used and not just on the total gear used in battle.  That would actually give some informative data.

It's basically how many troops you have / troops you have lost

No - it is how many troops_you_have_lost / troops_you_have_or_have_had

I continued on from what I was doing here - http://forum.melee.org/diplomacy/war-on-apostates/msg856166/#msg856166

For those that can't be bothered reading the other thread.  All I have done is add each factions current troops to their expended troops and then calculated expended troops as a percentage of that total to give a score.

Included in the table are all existing land owning clans that have a total troop count (current + lost) of at least 5000.  Where clans have simply changed names I have attempted to find and add in their old losses as well for continuity.  Where more complicated diplomatic crap has occurred I have simply ignored it :D

Note: Take this with a pinch of salt as the numbers don't take into account any kind of circumstances whatsoever :D

Some stats because I was bored

UIF & Friends (Greys, DRZ, Shu Han, Wolves, Kapikulu, OdE, CotgS, Balde, Kingdom of the Nord, Conquistador, The Ottoman Empire, Rus, Union, The Empire & Brodnics)
Current Troops: 522,000
Expended Troops: 492,000
Total Troops: 1,014,000

Anti UIF & Friends (Coalition, Crusader Alliance, Apostates, Barabe, Peacebreakers, KwsN, Guards, SoA, Bro, Kapikulu (in the past), Wolves (in the past))
Current Troops: 400,000
Expended Troops: 492,000
Total Troops: 892,000

Neutral Clans (Quincy )
Current Troops: 25,000
Expended Troops: 1,000
Total Troops: 26,000

Obviously there's a load of minor clans missed out but I don't think they make too much difference given how influential the major clan are to this.  I split Wolves and Kapikulu's losses into before and after they switched sides so that the UIF didn't look like they had used more troops than they really had.

The Expended troops are fairly even which is as expected given that it is a 2 sided war and most battles end up close to a 1:1 K:D

The current troops however shows that the UIF is currently far more active especially when you consider that they were far less active in the past.  Pity there's no data from 6 months ago on this to see how much it has changed.

The top 10 individual clans in terms of current tickets + expended tickets are
1) Greys (306,000)
2) Apostates (inc previous Deserter and Merc factions) (255,000)
3) Coalition (247,000)
4) DRZ (198,000)
5) Crusader Alliance (168,000)
6) Wolves (112,000)
7) Shu Han (97,000)
8) Kapikulu (94,000)
9) Conquistador (57,000)
10) Barabe (51,000)

I wish clan renown data was viewable as well as it would be interesting to see renown compared to total tickets.  It would be especially good if renown took each armies equipment into account as then we could probably make a Strat score board.

For example
Renown = Opponents equipment used - Your equipment used
Total Tickets = troops created + tickets received from other clans/players
Score = Renown / Total Tickets

As it stands though the only scoreboard i can create is one that shows expended tickets as a percentage of total tickets.  So based on that here is my Strat 4 current EU clans rankings :D

1) Apostates (73%)
2) We_are_Russians (64%)
3) Grey Order (59%)
=) Barabe (59%)
5) CotgS (55%)
6) DRZ (52%)
=) Crusader Alliance (52%)
=) KwsN (52%)
9) Wolves (50%)
10) Coalition (44%)
11) Peacebreakers (42%)
12) Shu Han (41%)
13) Kapikulu (37%)
14) Balde (33%)
15) Caravan Guild (25%)
16) Conquistador (9%)
=) OdE (9%)
18) Council of Brodania (7%)
19) Quincy (4%)

Congrats to Apostates and We_are_Russians :D

I just got the strangest picture in my head.

I thought it was just Curtis we had to avoid feeding after midnight?!?

If we are going down the food root then it needs to be simple and not increase micromanagement.

Easiest way I can think of is..
- Every village is linked to a specific Castle or Town
- Every village has a "supply castle/town" button
- So long as that button is turned on then you can stack whatever you want in the Castle/Town
- If no village is supplying a castle/town though, then any troops inside will begin to starve after 1 week at a rate of 0.5% per hour
- Castles/Towns without any supply from a village also can't buy/sell equipment or goods and they don't gain PP

PROs
- villages are important again so no running away and hiding in Town's Castles forever
- Factions can still use fiefs as troop stockpiles to help[ with management
- You can secure food either by conquest or diplomacy

CONs
- It doesn't prevent troop stacking in villages but i can't decide if that matters or not

IF avoiding the food root then Corsair's idea is ok so long as it is a faction limit and is per "player with ticks".  So having an inactive player in your faction makes no difference to your troop cap.

Narra has over 11m silver in it alone.  Do you really want us to be able to buy another 15k troops to stack in there with the 22k we already have?

Idea has merit though and there might be a way to make it work, just can't think of one now.

Limit ranged to 1 quiver and prevent looting up of spent ammo -> problem solved

Who cares then if there are 20 ranged on the opposite team.  They will quickly run out of ammo and then have to join the melee

Strategus General Discussion / Re: Smaller Rosters
« on: September 03, 2013, 01:36:19 am »
Wait, you want smaller rosters, for the over stacking EU side of the map? Cause other clans will do wars if they can't get on rosters? Wait wait wait, that is NOT how crpg operates. If people, more and more and more are turned away from fights, you will get LESS fights and more inactivity.

I think you underestimate cRPG players.

Just look at how many clans or solo players there are with fiefs in Strat (38 in EU alone, plus another 20ish in NA).....  Strat is not in the slightest bit easy and yet lots of people have got themselves or their faction on the map with troops and gear/gold.  Nobody else can do this for you and so players that wanted it worked out how to do it for themselves.

The final step though of creating, managing and leading battles, is something you don't need to do as you can simply ally with, or befriend, a bigger clan that will do all this for you, giving you and your players all the roster spaces they want.  Take this away and I think the vast majority of these solo players and clan leaders will want to at least try and fill the gap by creating their own battles, especially if they can have smaller battles that are easier to lead.
