Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: 2nd gen will be 2h...
« on: May 20, 2011, 11:22:18 am »
There seems to be a tendency to heirloom the 2h weapon first. In this respect, the Claymore and the German GS are the best choice imo, but you should really consider taking the blade you acutally prefer.

Personnally, I have preferred heirlooming my armor first because I change of weapon at every round and the armor is the only piece of gear that I rarely change.

So, choose the stuff you are likely to use the most.

Re. low cost equipment: take something with protective value around 25 (tribal warrior outfit at 27 is a good choice). The cost should be fine then. Armors around 15-20 are almost useless, so you can opt for the cheapest tunic for some rounds if you really need to save money.

Avoid taking gauntlets, their upkeep costs is much too high for the small bonus they provide.

The best and most helpful way to be a peasant is to be the ladder/seige shield carrier for your team.  With the slot patch, ladders can't be carried by those who need them (ranged).  Bring a ladder to battle, announce it to your team, and get your ranged up to a good position.  Its the single most useful way a low level can help, and your team's ranged players will love you for it.

You can also:

Push siege tower (you might see me there)
Bring exta ammo for your archers
Bring a pike too
Hold a torch to light the way for your teammates
Prepare their lunchbags
and keep some jokes for the chat when the time get long.

Undoubtedly, you will become soon an essential member of the team.

The kind of overarm attack you are referring to is the kind of lance attacks early Middle-Ages cavalry would do (see below on the Tapisserie de Baveux, 1066 AD) before the technic of couching the lance was developped (two centuries later).

Suggestions Corner / Transfer XP from alts to main
« on: May 19, 2011, 07:05:53 pm »
Like many of us, I have alternative characters. I have tried some builds, some specializations, before finding what I am rolling for.

I would like to delete some of my alts because I will not play them anymore. However, I cannot resign doing it: I have spent so much time with them; I just cannot abandon all these hard earned XP and gold. So I just let these alts rot in the limbo of the database.

Actually, I would really appreciate transferring the XP of these alts to my main character and then I would happily delete these alts at the same occasion.

And why not making it a constant option?

This would encourage/ease playing alts since a player would not lose "time" in comparison to those who play only their main. A player can start an alt/try a new build and if he is not happy with it, he could transfer the XP to its main.

See that since the 10% p. retirement bonus has disappeared, it is not really conceivable to try new builds with a main character at every retirement anymore.

Of course, we could add some kind of limitations (I see chadz enjoys adding limitations): minimum level before XP transfer, transferring only 80% of the XP, etc.

Ha, thanks for the tip. I was indeed thinking of making something stupid.
Of course... 49c... I could still dream on!

Now we discuss about this and I see in my equipment list that my 3x Great Axe (a.k.a "Titus My Best Friend", the weapon I use the most) has a little sister:

Mighty Great Axe
weight 4
requirement 14
spd rtng 95
weapon length 96
swing damage 49, cut
thrust damage 0 pierce
Sell for 3,247

FYI, my normal Mighty Great Axe:
weapon length: 96
weight: 3.5
difficulty: 15
speed rating: 95
weapon length: 96
thrust damage: 0 pierce
swing damage: 46 cut
Sell for 6,612

Obviously the cheaper sell price could indicate a lower upkeep cost (but I cannot confirm) but the thing is that I cannot select it when I play: there is just one Great Axe, the normal one, in the list (but I have also too much gears and many stuff don't appear in the list, that might be the reason).

My theory is "THAT" could be the compensation to the last heirloom buff: some stats boost when playing.

Xbowmen and archers would collect gold per kill and, if they stand side by side, they would even collect some gold from the kills of theirs fellow archers (exactly like it worked in the old c-RPG). So, no, it would not make their class useless.

I have an idea for the leeching nomination tool:

If, after 1 minute (lapse of time for one XP tick), a player does not take any action (i.e. the server does not receive new commands from the keyboard), the server sends automatically a warning "press M otherwise be kicked..."

It should be easy to code this. Then no abuse from players and no need to scan the map looking for hidden leechers.

Gold per kill renders support classes useless

Not if there would be an "gold reward area" like in the first version of c-RPG. Then assist classes who stand close from a kill would gain gold as well. See also that this would encourage peasants to participate to the actions and, reciprocally, discourage leeching.

I really support the idea of gold per kill (+ assist) and XP per minute.
- XP per minute so no one is penalized and stuck at low levels for ever. That is important to let the mod open to new players.
- Gold per kill (+ assist) + a lump sum at the end of the round (more for victory, less for defeat, possibly with the multiplier bonus).

This will also consume the FPS if players drop torches everywhere but I love the idea too.

I have a girlfiend, I piss, I do things that don't keep me always in front of the computer and I do miss some chat messages. However, every time someone accused me of leeching I was actually playing.

I get the message while I was visiting the smithshop in a village. I was looking at the nicely designed interior of the shop (with armours on a table) and the message appears... I thought it was linked to my touristic visit.

Personally I'd just donate and not get a t-shirt, they would be female repelling verbal abuse welcoming t-shirts where I come from and I suspect in many other places around the world too.

Will Bravecunt, Rapetrain, Anal_Lord and so many others dare to assume their characters in the open?
