Ok, so I went way too crazy with the "golden doom" theme and, as classical put it, the heirlooms started looking like they were from a cheap, throw-away MMO.

hopefully these are a little more realistic:

A maxed out heirloom would have a golden ring somewhere on it and not every weapon would go from wood to metal. I'd see what feels more appropriate for each weapon and only slightly modify the blade if there is a damage increase on the heirloom.

....another method for new heirloom models could be that the equipment ages as they're "passed down", looking more experienced and repaired?

just an idea!

Thoughts?

I agree, lol.

I'll tone these down a bit. I may be getting carried away with the gold and silver and thinking a little too fantastical.

This game needs more Poseidon's peasants of doom!

But yeah, I figured most people would prefer a certain look for their weapon over another be it the maxed heirloom look or the original texture. The only work around I can think of atm is pretty much what you said and after heirlooming an item, it would unlock a dropdown for instance where the player can choose which model they'd want to use. Now, how tricky that might be to actually implement I'm not really sure.

I take it the best way to optimize textures is to fit as many different model textures into a single UV Map as possible (duh). I only just noticed that's how the native textures work. Truth be told, this is the first time I've ever modeled/UV mapped anything. I'm picking it all up pretty quickly though :)

So really, I would only be replacing the current textures with slightly larger ones to fit in the additional details. Unless the file size of the textures is what would cause problems? Currently the smaller textures are about 512kb and I might have to bump some up to about 1mb.

There are quite a few models and textures that aren't being used (like the dagger I modeled). I bet there are some current textures that could be combined. I could look through them and see what I can do?

I'm also making sure to use as little new faces on the new models as possible to keep that demand low. Is there a set limit of new models/materials allowed in a BRF?

Also, is there a better way to view a model in game? I'm currently either buying them in cRPG and equipping them or chasing around people who have the newly equipped model  Inefficient but it works.

If you quadrupled the number of models and textures, I wouldn't be able to load the mod with textures on demand turned off.  This would make me very sad and my GPU would fall ill.

Yeah that would be my only concern. Is this TOO much for mount and blade to even handle?

I'll optimize textures and models as much as I can but the size of the mod would increase quite a bit as well.

Ok, finally figured it out. Just had to put the .dds in the textures folder :P

Anyways, I'd really like to do something like this for every weapon/armor:

There would really only be texture changes and slight model adjustments, nothing too drastic. I wouldn't change armor color too much because I know it would upset some people but this would be a fun way to see who's wearing/wielding what.

It's a butt-load of work but I'm ready and willing!

Thoughts?

Could anyone point me in the direction of how to properly import models into cRPG? I'd really like to make some actual models!

I'm using blender 2.5 to model, I've got OpenBRF, and the DDS plugin for photoshop. I can't figure out how to get the UV Map to show up on a model?

Wow looks tight.  +1 from me.  Please add a pop up or confirmation page for selling items..  I think I sold a couple of my looms by accident trying

Good idea

Looks really great.

When you posted those icons on the old taleworld forums you never responded. We (the dev team) are in desperate need of someone than can do art/draw stuff. So if you have time i'm pretty sure chadz wouldn't mind having you on board.

Well count me in!

How do you guys feel about using different models for heirloomed/damaged gear? A lot of work, I know, but I'm considering making new textures/models for each item?

If anyone missed it too I've already got most of the icons finished. I just need to make ones for the new stuff.

New Heirloom Models
What is it: A very easy to install cRPG mod that makes all heirloomed weapons look slightly different with each heirloom point spent. (horses, shields and armors to soon be included)

On a side note,
I've always been a bit turned off by the native bow/crossbow sounds. So I did some tinkering and modified the 'cinematic' sounds mod a bit and came up with this:

Final_boss bows/crossbows/horses sound mod
What is it: A Sound mod that replaces the sound effects for firing bows & crossbows, passing arrows and bolts, as well as horse sounds. Courtesy of the More Metal Sounds mod.

Here are some samples if you're curious!

Bows Example

Crossbows Example

Install is pretty straight forward,
- backup your sounds.txt file in the cRPG folder (just in case!)
- Put "sounds.txt" in your cRPG folder
- drop all the audio files into the cRPG/Sounds folder

Couple of bugs I can't iron out without editing the mod:
- The "I've been hit!" sounds play on a player's death, horses will speak it, and women will sound like men.

I'll have to agree on this one.

Whistling works some of the time but it mostly goes ignored.
