General Discussion / Re: hypocritical ruleset

Consistency would be if a hard coded word filter was implememnted. You can't actually believe in game crpg admins would be capable of being consistent. In game admins are allowed and even expected to pick and choose how to deal with issues like this.

Heres a 2011 post from the creator of the mod and owner of this website, look for the post by chadz http://forum.melee.org/general-discussion/the-vast-majority-of-the-eu_crpg_1-admin-team/msg21701/#msg21701

Using that word in the chat is against the rules because the people the created the mod, and the people that currently run the mod decided it is. It being "offensive" is almost irrelevant. They don't even need to make it a specific rule, it neatly fits into the existing "racism" umbrella.

Ok well if the whole point is just a recommendation for the entire admin team to be truly consistent in how they deal with the broad issue of in game chat racism (and verbal abuse?) I would say your recommendation is unreasonable to expect and more than a little bit naive.

In game administration amounts to little more than in the moment judgement calls that each individual admin makes in an effort to keep people playing while following the basic rules. It will always be case by case, there will never be actual consistency. Remember, admins are just as dumb as you are.

Ok so the thread unironically is "I think the admins are doing a bad job, but please be more consistently bad"

Still we come to the issue of lacking real examples. I don't doubt you guys when you say someone gave Narmin a dose of innapropriate chat toxicity and some admin ignored it. Let's fill in the "someone" and "some admin" with real names, couple it with a date and time so the logs can be parsed, and start getting somewhere. Without tangible information all this thread can amount to is a long winded way to say "I think the admins are doing a bad job".

Maybe you cRPG admins are so vindictive that you feel you MUST immediately punish bad behavior. That's your prerogative. You'll end up punishing a lot more players that way, not all of whom are bad people.

in other news:

god hates long mauls

I do appreciate you sharing your stance on the matter, but your post has the same problem as nikkle's, a lack of concrete examples. You say "you cRPG admins" without saying which admins are doing what. The reason this is an issue is because I virtually never mute for chat abuse unless i'm essentially forced to by complaints in admin chat. I haven't muted anyone in the last week or two and from what I have seen, the pejorative chat SPAM has been even worse than it has been in the past.

it's hard to understand what the argument is here other than that admins should stop muting people at all. Give some examples of specific admins muting specific players over specific instances and we can better judge things on a case by case basis. Even if a muting is retroactively judged as unjust, so what?

If you act like trash in chat, you should expect to be treated as such.

This seemingly makes it harder for the person in the upper bracket to win compared to normal double elimination rules. With regular (FGC) rules, the person on "winners side" of grand finals needs to beat the person coming from "losers side" only once, while the player already in losers needs to beat the other player once to put them into losers and "reset the bracket" and then again to eliminate them from the tournament (since it's double elimination).

With your method the winner would also have to win twice if they haven't already dueled, which puts them on even footing with the player coming from losers. Not to mention the player coming from losers would technically be "triple eliminated."

In Dota 2 the competitors on the "winners side" do not get any extra benefit in the grand finals. The big benefit is having to play far less elimination games if you stay in the upper bracket.

In this tournament you can have a tournament champion that wins 6 duels if he was seeded into the second round and stays winners side. On the other extreme, if a player were to be seeded into the first round and lose, drop to losers bracket, and fight their way back to the grand finals they will have had to win 11 duels, nearly twice as many fights.

Diplomacy / Re: Bounty Thread
« on: September 27, 2018, 12:17:41 am »
Target: Viscount
Army Size Requested: 750
Gear Level Requested: shiny as fuck
Compensation (i.e. Silver, LPs, Gold, etc): 3.5 million silver paid ONLY on confirmed kill on his geared army. If you lose to viscount's army and feed him gear, you get nothing except my contempt.
Contact info: Y'all know me, still the same O.G

He is likely down south in "The Clan" territory or east in HoC territory. i would imagine he is a kill on sight target in the more civilized areas of Calradia.

This compelling evidence is all the proof needed to show, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that viscount is an idiot. We got him dead to rights now boys. Please accept my humble downvote.

Game Balance Discussion / Re: Nerf 1h cav damage.
« on: September 17, 2018, 12:51:46 am »
i acknowledge this is a dead thread, however

2h morningstar cav has always been and will always be one of the easiest ways to scoreboard. not hard to play at all, either.

another fun fact: as best I know, a 1h player has never won a major crpg tournament. plz update me if im wrong.

excuse me sir, the recent dream team of myself, assington, sugar, and honored team substitute sitvek won the last "tournament" with assington's 1h being an absolute cornerstone to our team's strategy. Lesser players get 1h nudged on and instead of properly countering it, their inner man child comes out causing them to get mad and play like absolute TRASH.

a 96 - 50 performance, judged either by the KDR (1.92) or K minus D (+46) metric wouldn't even make it into my top 30 strat battle performances of this round.

judged solely on KDR, it wouldn't even be top 70
