Beginner's Help and Guides / Swashbucklin'

Hey folks, next generation I plan on going swashbuckler! I've done it in the past with hybrid builds to rather good success; I imagine I'll be much better off with a pure build. Now, I was thinking of these builds (apologies for not putting them in nice formats, all builds assume maxed PS and ATH):

24-15, sacrificing large amounts of WM for IF. I've never really done this build on anything, so it wouldn't be very natural to me at first. Also am used to balanced/agi builds, and this is getting into minor str crutch territory.

15-24, sacrificing WM again for IF. I'm very used to this build, am using a modified version of it currently and have done so maybe 3-4 gens previously. However, I want to use a sword with this build, and 5PS does both glance a fucking ton, and do moderate damage at best.

21-21, same story. I've done this build, but only with polearms. I feel it would give me awesome athletics for footwork, and very good PS too for the damage. Downside is, of course, tw's and ranged will fuck me up. I've now got +3 body and hand armors though, and I don't wear light armor, so it may not be too bad.


In terms of weapons, I think I'd be using the italian sword, the knightly arming sword, or perhaps something else. I'm relatively set on a sword though, mostly for the swag points. I think I'd use a flanged or iberian mace if I wanted to be as brutally effective as possible.

Thoughts?

So yeah, we're attacking some Hero Party folks because they attacked us. We're gon' get 'em, but we need your help. Payment will be arranged according to positive impact on the battle. Game Balance Discussion / Rondel dagger vs Long Dagger and others

Hey guys, I'm just about to talk briefly about something that I'm sure is already clear to many, but perhaps some do not know.

Recently the Rondel Dagger was added into cRPG. Fantastic, I love me some daggers, and it's a very viable weapon for specific playstyles. I love that!

However, there's a problem. Here's the rondel dagger stats:

The big problem here lies with the rondel dagger's secondary mode, which allows the user to perform tri-directional attacks, and as far as I understand, uses pierce damage type. Now, with a faster base speed, and pierce damage type which is huge both for increased damage output and (I think?) less glancing. Least, the rondel seems to glance less than the long dagger.

Now, as I said before, I fucking love me some daggers. I'm glad that the rondel dagger is in the game with its current stats. However, it seems that there is absolutely no incentive to choose the Dagger, Long dagger, etc over the Rondel Dagger. If you use the Long Dagger, you'll do considerable less damage, especially on horizontal swings, you'll swing slower, all at the benefit of 10 more length- putting the Long Dagger at a still incredibly short 47 length. The length is simply not an important stat on such a weapon type, I would argue.


tl;dr: Keep Rondel Dagger as is, somehow buff/change Long Dagger, Dagger, and possibly Khyber Knife and Knife, although the last two weapons are entering into peasant-gear territory.

Hero party (or more accurately, our good pal McDeath) decided that they wanted quite a few crates from us, but as it turns out, they will receive only blades, arrows, and long pokey things. The business ends of them, naturally. We've got good gear for all classes sans throwing. If you're a 2h or polearm you'll be especially happy.

Howdy folks. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate section for strategus suggestions; if it's blatantly misplaced, move this shit, yo!

Anyway, I figure it would be a neat (and not difficult to code/implement/maintain) feature if fief owners could create a small message for people upon entering their fief. This would streamline trade disputes, as a person cannot plausibly deny (with too much effectiveness) that they have not seen, nor have ever seen messages on their c-rpg.net page. It would be nice for advertisement for weapons, for example, a fief owner could create a message as follows: "Welcome to clusterfuckistan! For sale are +3 fighting axes and +2 white surcoat over mail. A maximum of 500 trade goods per person are available to sell or purchase. I'm also incredibly gay. Have a nice day!"

I figure it would be handy to be able to disable these messages after you have entered a new fief for the first time, so you don't get your shit spammed. Of course, a fief owner could refrain from using the system as well.


Any thoughts from anyone? I cannot imagine that this would be difficult to code, although I am mostly ignorant on that matter. Perhaps this could be a real neato feature for strategus round 5.

I'll let this go for 550k. Any and all offers are considered. This item is not as spectacularly bad as people claim. It's actually very effective at teamfighting, doing large amounts of damage in a hurry from a respectable distance, and breaking shields. It's not good at 1v1s or spamming whatsoever.


A fantastic weapon, I've used it for about 3 generations combined. It's quick, long, and able to rear horses effectively. I would like to trade this for a +3 blunt 1h, +3 gloves (excluding heavy gauntlets), or +3 body armours (white surcoat over mail, brown surcoat over mail, heraldic mails, pronoia armour) I will entertain all offers, loompoints and gold included.

This is quite a good 1h. It's long, has respectable damage, and is relatively fast. It's got a good bit of ghost-reach as well, similar to a scimitar. This is a fantastic cavalry 1h if you dislike the arabian cavalry sword (I think the arabian cavalry looks like a butterknife, heh) I will entertain all offers for this item, and will sell it for 650k gold.


I've also got +1 war darts and +1 iron staff. Not bothering with the stats. If you're interested in those, just let me know. I figure not many people want +1 items, ha.

Game Balance Discussion / How to discourage no-risk playstyles?

This thread is not as much of a suggestion as it is an open-ended question. I would like to get people's input on possible ways to discourage (not eliminate) playstyles that involve little to no risk in return for moderate to high reward. Namely, ranged cavalry excluding throwing cavalry and kiting archers.

I am aware that it is a ranged player's primary task to shoot horses, especially horses belonging to HA/HX. However, I feel that the simple existence of a soft counter such as this is insufficient. The main reason for this is, to effectively counter HX/HA, class balance must be skewed in a way that is equally as frustrating and non-conducive to fun; having 30-50 percent of a team be composed of archers or dedicated crossbowmen. An HA/HX can simply refuse to be in danger of taking damage unless he or she chooses to; while still dealing respectable damage to the enemy team. I feel that this is absolutely retarded. Nothing makes people stop playing more than a foe that is literally invulnerable until he or she chooses not to be.

So, any thoughts? Feel free to minus this post if I'm nothing more than a bitching, whining bundle of sticks that needs to go archer in order to stop the bundle of sticksry known as ranged cavalry.

Hey guys. I've used the Final_Boss pack for a while without error, and recently installed all of the mods that Warham compiled in his nifty little launcher. All of them worked just fine for a period of about 2-3 days. I shut my PC off (I only do this once every few days, and I had not shut it off since I got all of the mods Warham compiled) and when I turned it on to play cRPG in the morning; I was greeted with a crash upon attempting to join a server. I tried a few more times, and I would end up crashing either upon getting to the server browser, or immediately upon entering any server.

I attempted to narrow down the problem, and it seems that if I ONLY have Final_Boss's pack running (the heirloom pack), I am able to play, but once every ~30 seconds or so, I will completely freeze for 2-10 seconds. Eventually, I end up crashing. If I do not have either the heirloom pack nor heraldic horses etc installed, I can play the mod seemingly fine. Here is the error I am greeted with upon crashing:

Title says it all. I want to get rid of my +3 Long Espada Eslanova. It's quite a fine weapon, very good for 1h no-shield swashbuckler dudes. I'd like loomed polearms, gold, or possibly mid-range loomed armours (mail shirt range)

I think it'd be neat if you could pay an amount of gold to revert one skill or attribute point. It's not a major issue, and I'm not going to be the least bit upset if it never happened. However, I'd love for there to be something in place to assist the severely mentally deficient (read: me) when we (read: I) fuck up on a build. Respeccing because you had an oopsie sucks.
