Game Balance Discussion / Re: Nerf crossbows.
« on: September 10, 2015, 02:10:55 pm »
Arbalest +3 with Steel bolts +3 is 100 (one hundred) pierce damage... Putting on heavy gear and beefing up IF does not change anything
There is no comparable way to do 80-100 pierce damages melee weapon.

I am not very good at this game, I rarely reach the top of the table score, and I quite don't care. I played with crossbow to make my opinion before judging (appreciate the diligence). I could have a K>D ratio with not too much because xbow is about camping.

I am not advocating a full damage nerf though. Crossbows should play their role of tincan opener after all. A reasonable bit with like normal bolts at 6 Cut and steel bolts at 1 Pierce (like bodkin arrows). I would see a higher upkeep (more frequent and more expensive, these are fragile toys), higher weight, unsheathable feature for the bigger ones.

Found it! Yes. Nerf xbows.

I cannot stand being shot by bolt chopping off 70-85% HP (if not one shot) by a guy standing still in his corner. Heavy crossbows with steel bolts do 82 pierce, seriously. 2H does twice less with cut damage. And save the arbalest, loomed stuff...

I have tried playing with a crossbow to make up my mind. It is too easy to use. Even with 1 WPF it is usable.

Honestly archers and throwers do need skills to make something. Crossbows require little skill and are way too powerful. The upkeep is a bit higher than average but nothing prohibitive.

Obviously the only thing that does not make them used by all is their boredom factor.

Why would you want to throw your sword away?

Well if that is your last chance before being pinned down by a javelin... I would throw mine.

If a thrower can turn his javelin into a melee weapon, why couldn't the melee guy throw his sword as well!?

Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: [Archer] can I switch between ammo?

That would be quite easy to mod I am sure. With the keys 1/2/3/4 calling the quiver corresponding to the slot.

Playing archer I usually pack a quiver of bodkins and sometimes an additional quiver of barbed arrows. Obviously the character shots the bodkins first (come first in the equipment slots) and once depleted, uses the barbed.

I don't think there is an option to select the second set of arrows during the game (so I could save the bodkins for armored opponents). Does anyone know?

The Chamber of Tears / Re: Make Cav require skill again...

I am not playing cav but I feel cav works right. They are quite powerful and dominating as cav should be. I see som riders better than others so I trust skill is still determinant.

The only thing I would praise is to have the sound fixed so that we could hear incoming horses (and run for cover!). Now cav is the new ninja, backstabbing by surprise.

Suggestions Corner / Re: Rebalance the 1H left swing

lol  :D OK I am not complaining and I do know how to block left swings.

I also speak as 1H user. I feel the 1H left swing is snappy. It is too easy to face hug and spam with it. There is something not consistent in particular when I compare with left swings from 2H or polearms.

I discussed with a friend who plays the mod too and he agrees. So I share my impression. You might not agree, fair enough.

Suggestions Corner / Rebalance the 1H left swing
« on: April 07, 2013, 03:58:49 pm »
Hi guys!

One-handers are overusing the left swing. I just see it all the time, everywhere. There is an obvious unbalance compared to other attacks.

It is the fastest swing,
It touches almost always the head,
It hits full blow from the very start (no progressing power with the execution of the slash see for thrusts),
The time for arming is almost nil as opposed to other attacks.

My suggestion: make the animation when arming the left swing slightly a bit slower (feel free to discuss realism) and introduce a damage reduction at the beginning of the swing.

PS: yes my main is 2H but my alt is 1H/thrower and I do overuse the left swing.

Suggestions Corner / Re: Helmet animation : opening

When a character reloads a crossbow, there is this animation which makes the character pulling back his helmet in place, like if it had fallen over his eyes when stooping. The same animation could be used when pulling up and down the faceguard.

Heirlooms on the other hand will become more scarce because the retirement system has become less attractive.

Actually there is more and more heirloomed stuff for the simple reason that the more people play the more they retire and heirloom.
Just look on the battlefield: it is so usual to find tempered, balanced and MW stuff around.

Price will inevitably decrease as heirloomed gears become common.

I would imagine block removed from all lances but staying for spears-type weapons (less damage, faster, shorter, not couchable). This would lead to two different classes of cavalry: lancers with (very probably) shield and mounted spearmen, with respectively their own style of fighting.

The 1h left swing seems very fast to me.

If horses are gonna get wounded and run slower when hit: How the fuck will we even move when over 9000 arrows are flying ahead.

A courser dies in almost 2 arrow hits.

That is why I suggest buffing horses's HP at the same time (horses weight from 500 kgs to 1 ton, they should have a lot of HP).

They will survive longer but, as they get wounded, become less efficient. See also that the rider would have a chance of dismounting before his horse get killed, throwing him off the floor.

Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: German or Danish?

Even though you fancy a good thrust once in a while, you will rely on swing attacks 95% of the time. So, no compromise: Danish.
