Any calls to the v1 API will not work after March 31, 2018. Starting in November 2017, a percentage of reCAPTCHA v1 traffic will begin to show a notice informing users that the old API will soon be retired.

Most websites around the world have already switched to reCAPTCHA v2, where humans pass effortlessly. With our advanced risk analysis engine, reCAPTCHA v2 can effectively separate humans from bots and always stay ahead of the attackers.

If your site still uses reCAPTCHA v1, please upgrade to reCAPTCHA v2 immediately. We no longer support reCAPTCHA v1. Any calls to the v1 API will not work after March 31, 2018. Please register a new key and upgrade to v2.

General Off Topic / Skyrim: The biggest problem with paid mods
« on: April 25, 2015, 11:26:12 pm »
For a TL;DR go straight to the second post.

If you have installed one of certain 17 mods previously, you might have noticed that your game will no longer launch. Steam will not let you play Skyrim until you either uninstall these mods or purchase them, even if you had them installed way before this paid mod business.

This means that Valve is effectively holding your save games hostage until you pay up. If you are a frequent modder, you are very familiar with the kind of damage suddenly uninstalled mods can cause to your saves. Even those mods that provide uninstall procedures require you to do it before removing the mod from Skyrim.
I have enough faith in Valve and Gaben to think that they would not intentionally bank on this kind of thing, but it bears keeping in mind that Valve gets 75 per cent from each mod purchase.
This in turn means that Valve has an absolutely massive incentive to push this to more and more mods.

You might be thinking something like "so what? 75% out of 2 bucks/euros isn't that much, don't they deserve a cut?"
They probably do, but not 75%. Not when they didn't do any of the work in making the mod, or making the host game. And it's not looking like it'll be just 2 bucks, but who knows how much for the entirety of your current mod collection? Read on.

Let's say you were a great guy and yesterday bought these mods that you already had, and in so doing supported their good work (with 25% of the amount going towards the actual work).
Today, you go to Steam and click to continue on your epic journey across the lands of the Nords, killing Giants and Dragons as you go. But as you attempt to go there, Steam again announces that more money is required to access this save game.
Another mod that you had installed previously has joined the paid mods program. What a joyous day.

But is paying for a couple of more mods that bad? The real kicker about this is that Valve might do this again and again for every single mod that your save relies upon. Or that you might install in the future.
The size of the of shadow that this casts over all of the current Workshop mods is hard to overstate. Do you dare to install this cool mod that just arrived for free on the Workshop? At any time it and Valve might lock you out of your saved data if you do.

This is the same business model as cryptolocker viruses use.

If you decide that this is unacceptable, and very unfortunately so far Valve has chosen not to rescind this policy, but instead have chosen to censor the negative feedback they have received about it, you should make the jump to outside of the Workshop mods.
For your convenience, here's a couple mod managers that are free now and are in no apparent danger of ever demanding more and more money from you. Nexus has made a public statement that they have no plans to go into paid modding, despite having received many offers.

General Discussion / Restored Sounds
« on: June 29, 2014, 10:19:10 pm »
As requested a couple times in various places, here's the pre-patch sound set up.

https://www.sendspace.com/file/xjn2rh

How to use:

After updating to the latest version,

1) Go to your Warband/Modules/Crpg folder
2) Delete Sounds folder
3) Download https://www.sendspace.com/file/xjn2rh
4) unpack into your Warband/Modules/Crpg

Important:

If you don't delete your old Sounds folder, you will still get the new female Q menu voices.
DO NOT DELETE THE SOUNDS IN YOUR WARBAND FOLDER, only in Warband/Modules/Crpg.

Optional file for those that like the new male sounds:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/4krjvs

This only restores the female voices. Same usage.

Update ver 2: Added female QQV to both. Thanks to Turkhammer for spotting it.
Update ver 2.1 (full): Added male QQV. Thanks still to Turkhammer.

Edit: Fixed now, thanks.

Update: Stagger can (apparently the correct term for what causes your movement to stop) still happen, but as of now it seems very rare. And tweaks can still happen.

Spam / Dumb comparison discussion
« on: March 18, 2013, 10:14:38 am »
I know, I repeat myself but... I do like the game and I do not feel sorry for spending some of my money on it (especially by buying from key seller - no regrets here).
But keep raging about a game you most likely haven't played... makes a really strong impression

People not having lived under the wonderful rule of Kim Jong-un also come off as pretty weak while discussing North Korea.

Suggestions Corner / Revolts in Strat
« on: August 02, 2012, 04:24:38 pm »
Make it so that leaving your fiefs unattended is dangerous, and ignoring them will gradually increase the chance of civil unrest and a revolt, that the fief owner must defeat as a battle in order to keep his fief.

This civil unrest factor could be tied to simply having enough faction members present, but preferably more complex than that, with a lot of non-faction players in the fief increasing the chance.

cRPG Technical problems / Launcher disables Teamspeak shortcuts
« on: July 26, 2012, 08:55:53 pm »
When using the cRPG Launcher, I can't use Teamspeak, because the Launcher eats keyboard and mouse input.
Without the Launcher, Teamspeak shortcuts function normally during the game.

Any help?
