'k guys - real life calls, and the last patch has finally made clear that it is time to move on...
It was years of fun, and I hold no grudges (not even against Tydeus ;-) - only against anyone who ever used a horse or shield, YOU BASTARDS!!!)
Guess you will see Hirlok the Hermit in Bannerlord, LiF or whatever comes up next and is a bit less biased against old archers...
Now - for the good stuff:
I have to get some things going IRL and work towards migrating to yet another country (Paraguay is a bit like c-rpg... was fun, but...), sooooo...

Nope, got too much on my mind to think up stuff (was going to make you create hermit videos, wikipedia page about Hirlok the Hermit, backlinks/reviews for some of my webpages, etc.), so: just post what item(s) you would be interested in (list below) and I will arbitrarily and not-so-randomly pick who gets what ;-) If I don't know you, don't even bother to post. Drawing/distribution: somewhen next week! Available looms:

Anyways, just to clear things up a bit:
this is no rage quit, actually not a "quit" at all. I have been playing less over the past months anyways, and archery becoming a merely decorative element (apart from a few highly pro min-maxing scoreboard jerks) is just a little help from my "balancing" friends to give me more time and energy for what I want to do. So Zen master Hirlok passes along what he will not need in the near future and others may enjoy it.
I know this is not exactly a self-development forum - so I'll keep it short and at the surface: most of you know I am a German expat and kinda "drop-out", living in Paraguay. The country is not bad - but for me it has become clear after 4 years that this is not the place I want to spend the rest of my life. Culture, infrastructure (PING!!!), climate, women, language, level of awareness/personal development, the majority of my fellow Germans here being fascist perma-drunk complainers, etc. - was a good time overall, learned a lot and had lots of fun with my animals, plants and a few cool people I met, but it is time to move on.
So Hirlok the Hermit will be Martin the Wanderer again, in search of another forest and a different Hermit hut. I need to gather up some cash (means for me: writing/publishing a couple of books, ramp up my websites, get a few courses on fitness and self-development out so people can buy them... ) and plan to start travelling next May or so.
I'll have a closer look at the US, Belize, Dominica and probably a few others and maybe even build two hermit huts - one in a "cold" place (Virginia is on the shortlist) and one on a funny island with comparably mild tropical climate (yeah, well, ping would bite me in the butt again, I know... ). The semi-nomad in me is raising his head again... ;-)
So - that is the plan, and I will push myself a bit to get it done, so less gaming for the next couple months.
I will not leave entirely, and on occasion troll people with my polearm my old friend, "Musafuka_Patchisuki". Now why would I name a char THIS, eh? ;-) I won't delete my Hirlok char as well, and you can bet your asses (esp. if you are on my team) that Hirlok with LOW PING will be VERY fearsome, even with unloomed gear (just in case c-rpg is still around then....) ;-)
I get the loom raffle/contest done end of week - and Athol, old friend - woolen cap is reserved! But I tell you - it reeks of old Hermit, I have not washed it in like 4 years... ;-)

You've been the best fucking Hermit man, many a year I've spent wandering the maps to come stand amongst your glorious hobo personification. Although I've rarely shared a teamspeak or even a round of strat as a fair-weathered ally. You have been a comedic, talented and enjoyable character to come across on c-RPG.
Take care on your journeys in life, if you ever find a dull night, stop in, or on to newer games and maybe in Bannerlord.
I'll miss having a badass Archer to rely on whenever found. Cheers mate!

Whenever I read an "I am leaving crpg" thread I've been lucky and it always seems to be a euro/someone I've never really known who is leaving. Yet every time I read "I quit" or "free looms" as a thread title I dread the day that it will one day be someone I know and care about... and finally that day has come. :cry:
Hirlok, I've known you since I started playing some 3+ years ago. You've been a constant figure in NA2 and a reminder of its former glory... seeing you in battle always makes me reminisce about the good ole days, when you know, we would run into each other in siege 24/7 as opposed to NA1. I wish I could say that like Phew I never killed you, but we both know that's not true. :P I barely carry a shield, so that makes me your target... and man, does being your target suck! You may be crippled in melee, but with 300 ping you could still hit an agi my old friend with mad jukes going full speed as a str archer (and you usually only need to hit me twice, 3 times on a good day, to end me)! While I always felt guilty about it, I must say that I consider you a priority target if you are on the opposing team... you're simply that annoying effective. Despite your melee handicap, you never once tried to run from any incoming melee, you would hold your ground to the very end. In all the time I've seen you pew pew, as soon as I got close you wouldn't turn and run, you would pull out your trusty little mace and flail like a madman. :wink: And I respect that about you, a lot. There are plenty of NA archers who can fight in melee 10 times better than you (no offense, ping is king) and yet they still would run, simply because they could. You never chose to go that route despite the fact it might have proven beneficial to you... low ping isn't as necessary when you have 10 athletics and just turn tail and run... and that is perhaps what makes me respect you so damn much. Despite not even being from NA, you were what all NA archers should aspire to be... a manly archer! An archer who faces death head on and accepts his fate! Yes, manly archers are actually a thing, and Hirlok, you might be the only one in existence.
I could go on and on about how not only are you an NA2 vet, a real warrior, and how you're also a hilarious guy, but this post is already getting too long (and too saddening) so I think I'll cut it short here. I hope to see you real soon, man. Get to writing those books and move on over to murica so you can finally shit on all of us (in melee!) with your sub-40 ping. I look forward to the day when NA2 will bow down to a new champion, and I have no doubt that it would be you if you can get the same ping as everyone else.

@bookreadingnerds: brush up your German ;-) My English is not good enough yet for any serious books, so for the time being I will publish only some small Kindle ebooks with how-tos and self-development stuff (where the writing is a bit less important) in my broken Engerish, the more serious topics will be in German (all non-fiction btw). If they sell, I will translate/re-write them with the help of a native speaker.

Sad to see another one of us go, but the reasons you're doing it are the most noble ones. I envy the strength you have IRL in your pursuit.
If you really don't plan on keeping those looms for you, then I'd be most honored to have the long dagger or any of your fun throwing stuff, and keep them 'till you return ('cause you will).

well.. ive been looking for gloves for months now, and recently loomed my first body armor, as a xbower I'm really interested in the ragged outfit and black leather gloves..
but reconsider staying! even playing once in a week will be fun
if you ever return, ill gladly give the looms back to you :)

I was running into some weird numbers while testing HA with low PD earlier (less damage than expected).
Could I borrow/buy/exchange something for that masterwork nomad bow for more tests? My test HA has 5PD -> 6PD later, so it makes more sense to use a Short/Nomad/Tatar bow than a Horn Bow.
I retired my shielder, so I have a lot of unused +3 shields if collateral is needed, I'll give the nomad bow to a player of your choice after a week or two.
If I'm allowed to participate in the not-so-random lottery, I'd like to put a ticket in either the Reinforced Black Leather Gloves, or the Thick Light Strange Gloves to complete a ranger set.
Good luck with moving around, let me know if you decide to go around New York City.

Now that archery is shit I would be down for trying MW throwing daggers or MW throwing axe. Also, i think red hair looks sexy in a Reinforced Ragged Outfit kind of tramp motiff going there (plus I love using that light of an armor on all my melee classes too so that outfit will get plenty of use and get even more ragged). Aww man. Gonna miss your arrows in my back, you killed me too many times to count even with your 99999 ping. You are and were (now) the best and coolest archer in crpg. As the person who has probably killed you the most (on the end of my lance), I think I should be eligible to receive an item :D
I'm a new archer, was able to MW a long bow, but could really use those MW bodkins you have (if you would be so inclined).
If I'm ever traveling through the rain forest and I have some rugs or carpets I'll stop over and hook you up (will spruce up your shanty some).
I do hate to see you go (my KD will surely suffer) but look forward to seeing you again in BonerLord, LiF or M:BG (lol dec 2010)

While I do kinda feel bad for asking, I would like a little bit of hirlok to cuddle with at night keep on my trophy shelf. Any memento would be appreciated... if you wish to cater to my needs and wants, then obviously being your most hated favorite polepal, the long hafted blade would get the most usage. However, now that my archer is finally a high enough level where I might be somewhat effective, Ranger Rick would gladly accept the hermit-tier long bow.

When I first started c-RPG as an archer, I considered you, and even still do, the best archer in the NA community. Good luck in whatever it is you do. Seeing as I already have a scummy longbow, I'll take the Hermit Ragged Outfit, or the Hermit Swingstick (Long Hafted Blade).

Hirlok was my favorite 300 ping archer and the only person i knew i could win 75% of the 1v1 melee duels with because of ur ping. Its sad to see you go and im sure we will all miss you and if I see a 300 ping archer named hirlok_the_hermit on M&B2 ik which archer to take out first :P. You were also one of the only archers i liked and respected (those scum) and one of the only ones who i would hope and think didn't use hacks when shooting and just had that 300 ping skill. I only want 3 of your looms but i do not care if i get them or not because the good laughs and funny times seeing you playing was more than enough fun for me but here are the ones i desire if you are to choose me: Lordly Black Lamellar Vest- Part of Black Company wardrobe that i still don't have Reinforced Black Leather Gloves- I'm looming the new heavy aketon soon and these would be my choice gloves to go along with it Elders Long Dagger- This is one of the only 2 sidearms i use when i play long spear and i always love rping as a peasent which i don't own a +3 dagger/knife for

I only use xbows on siege, only on defense, and only in the first life. It's not like a hunting xbow can even hurt anyone anyway (although you do wear cloth now...)

Well when you shot me in the jugular earlier it sure did hurt!
I think you were on the time a few months ago that I headshotted someone from across the map (with that same Hunting Xbow) from Hailes Castle, a few seconds after round start. Especially noteworthy because I miss from pointe blank at least 75% of the time.
