Basically, make it impossible to use more than a certain number of heirloom points in one's equipment.

For example, if I use a +3 deli cap and a +3 KAS, I'm using 6 heirloom points in total.

Depending on the limit (between 5 and 8 seems reasonable to me), this would introduce a new element in build-design. Players would need to make an interesting choice on how to use those limited heirloom points. There would be a real tradeoff between using one heirloomed piece of equipment instead of another. Furthermore it would level the playing field by limiting the heirloom advantage of long term players, and shortening the "grind to maximum effectiveness". This would be a small nerf to ranged, throwers, cav and shielders because those classes use more heirloom points. This would also open up the possibility of making heirloom bonuses bigger again. The trend has always been to nerf heirlooms but if there's a limit to how many heirloom points a long term player can have more than a starting player, then we can think about making heirlooms more "unique" and powerful like they used to be a long time ago.

You are so fantastic. THANK YOU for supporting the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit that runs Wikipedia and its sister projects.

Your donation covers not only your own costs of using Wikipedia, but also the costs of other Wikipedia readers.

Like the retired farmer in upstate New York who's using Wikipedia to study the science of sludge, and the student in Kuala Lumpur who's researching organic chemistry. The British mechanic who, after he broke his back in an accident, used Wikipedia to retrain himself as a web developer. The civil servant in Finland who set up an offline version of Wikipedia for a small school in Ghana. And the father in Mexico City who takes his little daughters to the museum on weekends, and uses Wikipedia to help them understand everything they're seeing there.

Wikipedia's job is to bring the sum total of all human knowledge to everyone around the world in their own language. That's a pretty audacious mission, but with 30 million articles and 287 languages, I'd say that thanks to you and people like you, we are getting there.

On behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation, and the half-a-billion other Wikipedia readers around the world: thank you. The fact that you are helping to pay the costs of running Wikipedia means it can stay ad-free and independent of bias, focused solely on helping its readers. Exactly as it should be.

You may have noticed that for the first time this year we've tweaked our fundraising so that most people will only see the banners a handful of times, instead of for weeks. That's deliberate: we don't want people to get irritated by too many appeals. But it does mean that fewer people will figure out we're a non-profit, and that we want their help. So if you're willing, I'd appreciate if you'd help spread the word by forwarding this e-mail to a few of your friends.

And I'd love if you'd try joining us in helping to write Wikipedia. Wikipedia's written entirely by volunteers -- tens of thousands of ordinary people around the world, exactly like us. If you see a typo or a small mistake on Wikipedia, please fix it. If you know anything worth adding, please add it. Some people find it remarkably satisfying, and maybe you will too.

Thank you again. I very much appreciate your trust in us, and I promise you: we will use your money carefully and well.

Thanks,
Sue

General Discussion / Exclusive banner prices
« on: May 18, 2014, 11:53:06 am »
What do you think about the current prices of exclusive banners ?

I don't know whether Pixel Paladins is in the expensive zone of the 2 month cycle, but regularly paying more than 150k for a banner is extremely penalizing for small/medium clans like us.

General Off Topic / Buying a sound card
« on: February 23, 2014, 05:39:07 pm »
So I've been wanting to actually use my new headphones as best as I can afford lately. Next thing I'm going to buy is a sound card.

Do you guys have any recommendations? I don't have any real price range although upwards of 100 euros seems to be a lot as I'm not really an audiophile, I just want a good sound card for gaming. To be more precise, I want a sound card able to encode surround sound in Dolby Digital because my receiver can only accept optical input.

Take the name of someone, a car, some object or idea in two words, such as "Harry Potter", invert the first letters or sounds. In my example it gives "Parry Hotter". It's usually better when the first letters are consonants. With consonant groups like "ch" or "sh" move the whole group.

Suggestions Corner / Remove "Teams are not fair"
« on: February 18, 2014, 07:54:14 pm »
Currently this feature's only purpose is to make sure nobody wants to stay in a low pop server. This is terrible.

It also has no useful function whatsoever, as it is incapable of actually telling when teams are really not fair. Case in point, yesterday there was a huge balance problem after the whole Grey clan quit EU2 in mid round. One team had less than half the population of the other team, with at least 50 players online. Yet the system didn't detect that and winners got their multiplier. I'm fairly sure I have never seen "Teams are not fair" do something useful, ever. Please get rid of it, if possible.

None.

That is all.

"Political Heartfelt Slapstick Slashers Based on Books About Art & Design For Kids For Hopeless Romantics"

Here's the idea: right now when a shielder attacks, he's wide open to be shot center of mass from the front, left side and back and headshot from everywhere. This is especially true for left swings and overheads.

This has the side effect of forcing shielders to "bump" archers and xbowmen while keeping their block up in order to disrupt their aim and allow a safe attack. Due to the fact that this "bump" has no range at all, it is easy to just kick someone attempting it against you and run away. But the lack of reach, weakness of effect and the delay of that bump also delays the fight much longer than it should, putting the shielder under unnecessary danger from third parties.

What I suggest is to change the 1h/shield attack animations in a way that keeps the shield in front of the character. The running animations could be changed in a similar way, giving some useful passive range protection to running shielders. Of course all that animation stuff is not really feasible as I doubt the cRPG team has the resources to do that.

So, I also suggest a change in the ranged bump mechanics to make it stronger and more useful. For example, instead of disrupting the aim it could knock people down, or make them drop their ranged weapon automatically, leaving them unarmed. More importantly, I think the trigger conditions should be changed in favor of the shielder. Ideally, it should trigger automatically as soon as the shielder enters something like the range equivalent of a length 45 weapon. This sounds like a very powerful move but the intent here is to force the ranged player to stop delaying, play it safe and get a melee weapon as soon as the shielder enters a 1 or 2 meters radius instead of attempting a trick shot.
