Hello, I'm MrShine.  cRPG is a tough mod for players new to the Mount & Blade combat system, and the difficulty curve might scare away some people.  But have no fear!  Stick with it and before you know it you'll have spent hundreds of hours playing the mod. 

This video is intended to help give you some basic tips on how to approach your character, what you can expect, and perhaps a few useful tricks to help keep you from being that bloodstain on the battle field...for a little while at least.

General Off Topic / So MrShine Has a Youtube Gaming Channel - now with cRPG video!

Hi folks,

I love video games & I love creating content.  About a month ago I decided that I wanted to direct my creative juices towards recording video game content on youtube, and I've been having a complete blast so far.

I'd encourage you to take a look at some of my videos, and if you like what you see subscribe to my channel to get future content.  If you don't like what you see, let me know why or what I can do to improve.

I'll be honest - I'm a newb at this whole thing & my editing software & mic are sub-optimal.  I recognize I have a long way to go before I make more professional content, but I'm taking this very seriously - I want to improve and I think I've already gone a long way in the short time I've been doing this.  Compare one of my first videos to one of my more recent videos to get an idea of how I've improved audio & video quality.  Next things on the agenda are to purchase a better casting microphone, and getting some video editing software that isn't god-awful movie maker.

The game I'm currently recording is Hearthstone (a free card-game by Blizzard along similar veins as Magic the Gathering), but if that isn't your cup of tea I have some other games I'm interested in pursuing in the short term such as:
- cRPG (gotta return to my roots!) (playlist)
- Dark Souls II (playlist)
- Heroes of the Storm (currently in the tech alpha of this Blizzard-made MOBA)

...and I'm sure more will come up as I go.

So yeah there you go.  I'd love your support & your involvement in my channel - I'm a small fry right now but I feel confidant that I could make this channel something special given enough time.

Ok, there's been a bit of inactivity lately, but GOD DAMN IT we're going to get this son of a bitch off the ground!

I'm going to make this thread a one-stop-shop for this league and will do my best to keep it updated (as a forum troll I don't think I'll have much of a problem).

• 40k gear limits (looms are inflated) is hard-capped on the server, so make sure your gear works before your start time!  Log in & try things out
• No gear/ranged/cav restrictions other than the 40k hard cap on the server, so however you want your roster to be for a game is fine
• If you're under 40k you can bring in extra gear to help out teammates
• If you win 2 maps you win the match.  To win a map you need to be the first to win 3 rounds.  Home team gets pick of 1st & (if needed) 3rd map, visitor gets to pick 2nd map.

• What server is this on?

These will be held on the Raven 30 man server.  It's normally set to duel but admins can change to battle & remove auto balance.

• Do I need to add info on the other MERRICCA threads?

I'm hoping to make this a full repository for registration info & everything else, so this should be the 'one stop' thread for all things MERRICCA related... for now unless things start getting really big later. We'll take that as it comes.

• Can we swap people mid round?

Each team can field up to 8 players per round, but if you have more people available you're free to swap players in & out between rounds & maps as you see fit, provided they are all on the roster.

• What if someone can't field 8?

If one team doesn't have the 8 required 10 minutes after the match is scheduled to start they can either play with who they have available (and possibly win) or forfeit the match outright.  Theoretically neither team needs to field the 8 required (it could be a 5v7 or something) but you can't go above 8 at least for this season.

• Can we have people outside of the clan as part of our roster?

We'd prefer mostly clans, but at this point you're welcome to field a pick-up team of sorts.  After we get a season under our belts we can review how we want to break things out later.

• What if we know ahead of time we can't fill a roster for a specific week (finals, vacation etc)?

Let us know in this thread (so it can be known by committee members) and make sure to contact the team you're scheduled to face.  I'm sure we can either postpone the match for another week or find a different day to do it, but we'd need to know a few days in advance if possible so everyone has a chance to adjust to the new schedule.

• How do admins determine if a round is "live" or not?

Because of some equipment bugs we typically will have the first round be non-live to ensure people are spawning & the 8v8 roster is there.  Then the second round will be live if both teams aren't encountering issues, and an admin will typically confirm it's live by typing "live" in admin chat.  If subsequent rounds have gear issues admins will specify it isn't live & the round will continue without counting, again hopefully to continue as "live" the round after.  If randoms spawn in & grief, or server issues cause problems it will typically result in the round not going live.  If issues are client side (a teammate falling & dying near start of round, someone disconnecting, an accidental teamhit, etc) we likely will NOT restart the round or declare it non-live - it's up to your players to manage themselves & the round should proceed as normal even with this disadvantage.

• Make a Roster

• Minimum of 8 players; no max
• Must provide us with 1-2 players who will act as go-betweens & admins for the team, so we can send messages & stuff & ensure hiccups in a game can be worked out
• One team per player account - no joining multiple teams! Alts & STFs are allowed but we need their alt names to be listed in the roster so there isn't any confusion

     2. Submit a preferred schedule

• Give us 3 days you can't play - we'll assume the other 4 days are fair game.  Give us preferred times - we're going to try to schedule in the evenings once a week
• If you can't play a certain day you're scheduled let us & the team you're playing know, and we can either reschedule for that week or postpone.  Not letting us know & not showing up at the expected time will probably mean we'll mark it as a forfeit

I'm going to give this a week to generate interest & get updates from clans.  Pending other committee member tweaks & changes we'll then follow up with a schedule for clans where they'll have a match weekly in a round-robin format.  At end of 'regular season' we'll have a tournament with top 6 teams playing in it.  We'll crown a winner for the season & do it all again.

If you have a clan already submitted, please check the next post's info I wrote down.  It's probably wrong & I welcome changes you submit in this thread.

Also, (here's the gushing nerd MrShine part) please let people know this thread exists.  I'd love to see other clans get interested & active, and we have plans to make this "a thing" with specially created maps, video of matches, etc.  This is a community project, and without the community's interest it will die.  If people spread the word and get excited about it on the other hand.. this could be a great thing for NA c-rpg..[/list]

We now have a place where you can donate to help keep the server alive.  $30/month is what keeps it up, and up until now it's mostly been Raven footing the bill.  If any of you have been enjoying the server & the scrim league and have a few bucks to burn, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, it is I, admin extraordinaire.

Contact me:
When I'm not in-game message me on the forums or IRC and I'll try to respond when available.
When I'm in game message me there or on Steam (MrShine).  When I play it's typically in the evenings, ~9-12 central.

My Discipline Policy:
As a general rule I plan to enforce the 'three strike rule' of warn/kick/ban
Moderate rule breaking may go straight to kick/ban
Severe rule breaking may go straight to ban
If you try to duck punishment by leaving the server, you will likely get a ban
Chat offenses will follow a similar progression of warn/mute/ban, pending severity

My Feedback Thread Policy:
Raging isn't going to unban you any faster
Details & constructive criticism are your friends
Don't lie to me

My (rough) ban template for NA ban threads.

1st offense -0-12 hr ban, appeal likely
2nd offense -12-24 hr ban, appeal likely
3rd offense - 24-36 hr ban, circumstantial appeal
4th offense - 36-60 hr ban, unlikely appeal
5th offense - 60-96 hr ban, unlikely appeal
6th+ offense - special review

This is by NO MEANS set in stone, since various factors may increase/decrease the ban time.  The reason I've posted this is mostly for my benefit, so that I can be consistent & avoid becoming more/less lenient with bans over time.

Game Balance Discussion / Let's Expand on the New Point System!

Current system:

- take the damage dealt
- cap it by what HP the enemy has left
- divide by 10, round down
- if it is a horse and has a rider divide by 5,
- if it is a horse without rider set to 0
- if it's a teammate multiply by -2
- if you hurt yourself * -1
- give this score to the one who did the damage
- divide score by 2
- give to everyone within 3m that is an enemy of the one who was hit

I think most people agree the new point system is good.  I also think most people agree the point system needs some work.  I'm hoping some changes could be made in order to reward hunting priority targets, and to reduce the points gained from peasant slaughtering (which needs no further incentive).  I'm also hoping that the system can reward hits that appear to be a part of good teamwork.

Here's my suggestion for how points should work:

Standard Points!

Score a kill: +2 points
Score a hit that leads to death (enemy dies within the next second): +1 point
Score a (regular) hit: DMG dealt/10,  not exceeding the target's hp.
Score a TK: -2 points
Score a teamwound that leads to death (teammate dies within the next second): -1 point
Score a (regular) teamwound: DMG dealt/10, not exceeding the target's hp.

Point Multipliers!

50% point reduction when dealt to someone under level 25 (peasant hunting)
75% point reduction when dealt to a mount that is being ridden (team owned or otherwise)
25% point boost when dealt to someone above level 31
25% point boost when dealt to an enemy in the top 10th percentile.  Note: (I'm assuming that there may be a shift from displaying KDR to displaying an average PPR [Points Per Round], and therefore I think that high point scorers should be considered priority targets, and therefore killing/wounding a priority target tends to help your team more than killing a random peasant, therefore should be worth more points.  Therefore, therefore, therefore.)

Siege Specific!

Open a gate: +1 point
Close a gate: -1 point
Damage a door: +1 point for x damage (x being whatever ~half a doors hp is)
Raise a ladder: +1 point
Lower a ladder: -1 point
Push a siege tower: +1 point every 30 seconds
Kill an enemy within flag radius: +1 point
Assault flag: +1 point every 5 seconds flag is lowered

Open a gate: -1 point
Close a gate: +1 point (that way if someone is legitimately opening a gate to let cav out, they can get the point back by closing it again)
Raise a ladder: -1 point
Lower a ladder: +1 point
Kill an enemy within flag radius (but double the radius so defenders fighting around the flag are rewarded): +1 point
Kill an enemy within radius of a ladder, gate control, or siege tower: +1 point

So let's look at a few examples and how the points would play out.

An Archer damages 1 peasant for 10 damage, and one regular for 20 damage, which immediately leads to their death by a teammate.  A courser is also fully killed.

Points gained:
Peasant 1: .5 points (1 point for the damage, cut in half since it was a peasant)
Regular guy: 3 points (2 points for damage, +1 for the assist kill)
Horse Killed: 2.5 points (10 points for damage, reduced 75% since it's a mount)

TOTAL POINTS GAINED THAT ROUND: 6

A melee player goes on a murder rampage.  120 damage is dealt to 3 peasants, killing all 3.  20 damage is dealt to a regular guy, killing him.  5 damage is dealt to a level 32 'hero', stealing the killing blow.  A teammate is hit once, taking 20 damage and leading to death immediately after.  Oops.

Points gained:
3 Peasants: 6 points (12 points for damage, reduced by 50% for being peasants)
Regular guy: 4 points (2 points for damage, +2 for killing blow)
Hero: 3.75 points (.5 points for damage, +2 for killing blow, then increased by 25% for being level 32, and another 25% for being a 'hero)
Team Damage: -3 points (-2 for the damage, -1 for causing the following death)

TOTAL POINTS FOR THE ROUND: 10.75 (11)

A kamikaze joe cav couches an enemy hero (level 30) for 70 hp, killing him and immediately dieing afterwards.

Points gained:
Enemy hero: 11.25 points (7 points for damage, +2 for killing blow, increased by 25% for killing a 'hero')

TOTAL POINTS FOR THE ROUND: 11.25 (11)

So that's it. I'm interested in feedback & suggestions.  I think a lot of the current system would mesh pretty well, but I would scrap most of the radius point gaining in favor of more assist-oriented points (especially when it comes to battle).
Anyone have problems with my numbers or think it doesn't represent things accurately?

Strategus General Discussion / How To Stop Exploitation in Strat Battles w/ AI Defense

Here's how to prevent AI sign-up exploitation:

Bar clanmates/allies from signing up against their own clan/allies.  Period.
When someone applies, simply have a message pop up on the website saying "you cannot join this battle against your comrades!"

^ of course in order to get to this stage, there needs to be a way to group allies together.  The easiest way to do this would be to rely on the faction page. Perhaps even extend it to where you can't go against your faction in an AI controlled battle for 24-48 hours after dropping the tag.  Boom we're done. 

There are clear benefits to being in a faction (don't have to pay hourly upkeep, can trade easier, can see allies etc), so people who would exploit this system by being part of a faction without actually joining the faction would run into complications.


If you want to go the extra mile to do this against factions & their allies, you could have some sort of diplomacy feature added to the site, where faction leaders can set themselves as friendly with other factions (which of course would have to be confirmed by both factions in order to be made official).  The biggest challenge here would be to find a way to make it worthwhile to sign up as friendly to a faction, because if there is no benefits people won't do it. 

Some ideas:
-Have similar reduction in upkeep penalties when residing in a fief/castle/town of a friendly faction.
-Reduction in tax% with a friendly faction
-More visibility on the strat map
