Game devs usually don't make non-fantasy WWI games because they would be rather boring - most of the time, it's just sitting in a trench and trying not to get hit. Also weapons weren't that diverse (except some extremes), so there's not much room for arcade fun here either. EA probably ran out of ideas and will make an overhyped, overmarketed clone of a clone. But maybe they'll make something like H&G, minus the game-killing grind since it won't (?) be free to play.
I doubt they have balls big enough to pull a ww1 game through, but I would love to see an authentic BF game set up in that period. It's all true about lack of weapons, but they could focus on tanks, airplanes, zeppelins, cavalry, etc. chance is slim though...
If it has anything to do with even close future - I will skip this game, as I skipped hardline.
It's about time they go back to the good old WW2, and let us clear a village screaming "За родину! За Сталина! Урааааааа!" I want political officer class equipped with a red flag, and machinegun squad preventing enemies of the Soviet people to retreat from the battlefield!

Judging by the quality and content of BF4 pack, I am close to becoming an early believer, even though I am very skeptical about most games until they are released :)
You should also be even more skeptical because it's EA, and their products ALWAYS end up being bad for a reason or another, this is the rule since a few years now.

WW1 will have very limited guns, attachments etc which is the total opposite of BF4... certainly interesting though.

I feel zero excitement. I honestly don't understand the hype, the trailer got a million upvotes on reddit. It's not that I don't like the setting, it's great. It's just that I can't stop thinking 'uh, just another battlefield...'
I would love to see EA do Napoleonic. I am personally very excited for BF1.I think i've only played one round of BF4 without harcore, it was horrible. You can go into 3rd person view in tanks/planes. Headshot somebody and they regenerate. It's horrible.
As long as the game has a hardcore mode to make weapon damage realistic. Nothing worse than playing battlefield on casual damage.
But how in the hell do you implement cavalry? Can you spawn with a horse or is it like a 4x4 in other BFs? Are there limits to what you can use on a horse? What happens when they shoot it?

BOPS1 was set in Vietnam/cold war era but had ridiculous stuff like RC Cars, Motion Sensor and other shit that made it feel out of place.
"modern" motion detectors were invented in the 50ies, and RC cars were a big deal in the 70ies. heck germans had the fugin goliath, an rc exploding tracked vehicle that was used as urban anti tank weapon.
and the freacking anti aircraft wasserfall rakete, which came in radio and electrical controlled versions.

Apparently BF4 standard is like £3.74 on Origin at the moment, still has a big player base so might be worth a look.considering how many DLCs there are, and how most servers play DLC maps, BF4 standard is pretty much a paid demo for the premium
