Honestly Battlefield series is becoming like CoD these days, pretty much rehashed previous iterations. I hope they announce some significant change with this. Battlefield World sounds more... grandiose to me, maybe there'll be an outside strategy element (mmo?) added to the game, ala Heroes&Generals? Obviously this is just wishful thinking. Apparently setting is rumored to be in WWI.

Just take that, add destruction and you got yourself a new game. EA can probably scam the assets for Dice in no time.

Game devs usually don't make non-fantasy WWI games because they would be rather boring - most of the time, it's just sitting in a trench and trying not to get hit. Also weapons weren't that diverse (except some extremes), so there's not much room for arcade fun here either. EA probably ran out of ideas and will make an overhyped, overmarketed clone of a clone. But maybe they'll make something like H&G, minus the game-killing grind since it won't (?) be free to play.

WWI? Nah don't believe that, maybe the sci-fi equivalent ala BF 2114.

I doubt they have balls big enough to pull a ww1 game through, but I would love to see an authentic BF game set up in that period. It's all true about lack of weapons, but they could focus on tanks, airplanes, zeppelins, cavalry, etc. chance is slim though...
If it has anything to do with even close future - I will skip this game, as I skipped hardline.

It's about time they go back to the good old WW2, and let us clear a village screaming "За родину! За Сталина! Урааааааа!" I want political officer class equipped with a red flag, and machinegun squad preventing enemies of the Soviet people to retreat from the battlefield!

My retard ass actually bought Hardline though :(

But yeah the same for me. if it's WW1, WW2, Vietnam or Korean War i'll get it most likely. Futuristic one? Hell no.

There was a 1914 mod for the original 1942. Actually had a massive player base for a good few years and was incredibly fun. They certainly pulled it off well and wasn't even remotely boring.

A mainstream game should be able to do it easily. Except those spray and pray 12 year olds would moan about not having an automatic weapon and only a one shot rifle.

Heck they even had bayonets, tanks, zeps, ww1 era battleships, airplanes. Everything. Full blown trench maps and naval battles. A few maps that were air battles with the targets being the zeps. It was very well thought out.

One thing I miss from modern shooters are the proper naval and air battles. The original battlefield had them and ever since they've just done away with them. Bloody sucks.

2142 was terrible.

Now battlefield vietnam. There's an underated iteration of the series. That came was damn fun and had some great points and was far more creative than any of the modern battlefields.

Wouldn't mind a remake of that one either.

Modern shooters just lack any creativity or flair. Almost always copy and paste.

Alternative history after WWI it seems, just like their first game Codename Eagle. Except that game was set in post WWI Russia and this one will probably be some American bullshit as expected.

That's part of the leak I decided to follow for shit and giggles when it emerged on GAF few days ago. It said game will be called Battlefield 1 and be set in alternative history post WWI year 1920 and beyond.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=202542429&postcount=758

He doesn't mention alternative history but who are Harlem Hellfighters fighting in 1920, years after Great War has come to an end? They probably extended it in a way, American future is at stake, NY has to be saved from invasion and rest of that patriotic crap.

Confirmed, this is a WW1 game guys

Fucking amazing!!! Going to take an exclusive deluxe preorder, or whatever else they have on this one!
Damn, finally something different, if only visually, from what there is on the market!

Them WW1 games will pop up now, as small companies will try to get some of that reflected hype.

Hallelujah!

Edit:

Have you seen that green barbaric gas cloud? Cavalry and zeppelins?! I was seriously just dumping the first few things that came while I was taking a smoking break at work, in the earlier post today, and it was all in the video!
Judging by the quality and amount of content in BF4 pack, I am close to becoming an early believer, even though I am normally very skeptical and calm about most games until they are released :)

Edit:

That armored minigun dude was a bit too much, but hell, as long as it's done in a relatively believable way - I can live with him. I just want to charge a tank on my Rebecca, set it on fire with some sort of improvise Molotov, and chop down the crew as they pop out in panic!

You should also be even more skeptical because it's EA, and their products ALWAYS end up being bad for a reason or another, this is the rule since a few years now.

And was this a guy running and gunning with an LMG that I just saw in the trailer ? Like seriously ?

True dat. Bought BF3 and immediately regretted that decision. But my favorite still is 1942 (have aversion towards modern warfare). I'm really glad this one is historically accurate and not some alternate history story. Will play it.

Not sure how I feel about this. Feel like it might turn into a COD Black Ops 1 kind of game. BOPS1 was set in Vietnam/cold war era but had ridiculous stuff like RC Cars, Motion Sensor and other shit that made it feel out of place.

Although I get a lot of people would find it boring if it just was completely plain WW1 equipment/weaponry and would seem like Verdun 2.0

I liked 1942 and Vietnam, never realy played the others. but WW1 is interesting.

wow ww1 is actually pretty cool.

I wouldn't have been surprised if they just continued to chase cod and do near future/current.

still, it probably just wont be worth buying. since to you basically have to pay 100 quid for the entire game now in this series. and it definitely wont put in close to the amount of hours I will in squad.

Are you kidding me? I had a dream someone made this game, like a month ago. I mean it was a bit more steampunk, but the tanks were there, a big baloon was there, aswell as plate armour and melee weapons. Don't remember any horses, but hey, it's still something.
I might be going crazy, but this kind of thing happens to me every so often. Could it be that humans can decipher internet frequencies? I mean like, you know when you have that old film and you only take one crystal from it and with it you can reconstruct the whole picture, even though it gets fuzzier and fuzzier around the edges, because every crystal on that film is affected by all the others? Maybe it's like that with vibrations from electric current and our brains, aswell.
I need to do some studies on this, shit.

There are a lot of things from WWI that soldiers made themselves from scrap metal, etc. I'm sure they'll come up with something.
But how in the hell do you implement cavalry? Can you spawn with a horse or is it like a 4x4 in other BFs? Are there limits to what you can use on a horse? What happens when they shoot it?

They had to throw a bone to the 12 year old customers... I still consider the making of a major FPS title in a hundred year old setting, to be a bold move. It would be so much easier and safe to be unrestrained by any historical limits, and go for an alien attack future. All sorts of colorful orbs and rays are flying around, people and aliens are flying around, huge robots with legs are flying around too - everyone is fucking happy.
Even if they plague the game with "experimental tesla-guns", especially probable with later expansions, one can count on some minor degree of taste when it has to fit in the rest of the game.

As long as the game has a hardcore mode to make weapon damage realistic. Nothing worse than playing battlefield on casual damage.

But yes, gotta love all these GAMEPLAY! trailers that are basically 50%+ cutscenes. It's kind of sad that every time I read a video title with the word 'gameplay' in it and think to myself 'ugh its just gonna be cutscenes and then 5 seconds of actual gameplay again'.

yeah im disapointed by that too, it does just look like copy-paste gameplay with different weapon/vechicle skins.

I mean I thought the whole reason they were showing trench mele weapons and horses is because there would be less automatic weaponry and such. but someone with running around with mount only machine gun , aiming down the sights with no recoil at all.

Don't worry the French army will be packaged in the new reskin of the game next year called Battlefield One 2.

montage parodies got very stale over the years..

sure there wasn't much depth there to begin with but still. this is just slapping random memes/loud sound effects every 3 seconds in there.
funny how people take this shit so seriously though

Looking forward to the next expansion. Game is pretty fun I gotta say. Though I was initially dissapointed by some of the more arcade and unrealistic things included the game plays really well.

That looks very bright to be a night map, moon too powerful. Also there was a free map in BF4 that was an older map that was changed into a night map, was a pretty dark map with almost no lights, pretty cool.

It does look very bright. Ill report back once I have played it myself.

The sad thing is that those maps will be dead a month or two after release, or even sooner (premium only). We've come at a point where the PC bf1 pop is almost the same as bf4's, and it's not even out for a year.

Yeah PC version seems to have problems. Thankfully the PS4 version has three times the population.

Console kiddies always buy up any dlc so they're less split than the PC population, though for long term PC always has the longest remaining pop. but in the future they'll both be dead cuz EA control the servers.

I constantly hear people complaining about the PC version makes it sound honestly terrible.

Weird though because the PS4 version is a great product. I am a big fan of this battlefield I gotta say.

That's only with newer titles, all the other BFs have a good population on PC, when Bad Company 2 was completely dead on PS3 it had several full 64 player servers which is how it'll most likely turn out for this one too. But yeah as for BF1 PC ver. it is kinda wack and dlc just split up the already smaller pop., don't play it myself but my brother does.

Played BF3 on XBOX and it was pretty great though ultimately the smaller serversize in that one made the maps feel too empty. They did a great job on this one though the maps/game modes all feel well sized/populated. Frontlines and Operations make for some hectic all out wars.

I love the maps in this one they have really outdone themselves.

I assumed everyone had the dlc for BF1. It is 100% worth it.

Also population on PS4 hasn't been a big problem. I hear it is worse on PC though.

Post by: IR_Kuoin on September 05, 2017, 11:02:28 pm
Battlefield population is always pretty good until the map dlcs drops, when every active server switches to dlc maps. Only a few % of the servers in BF4 run only vanilla maps.

I'd pretty much love to get a refund. Seriously, I could make a list of things dice fucked up/is going to fuck up next patch. Too bad the prices of the accounts plummeted thanks to their "revolution" bullshit, there goes my fucking cash. I'm eagerly waiting for the MG14s noobs camping in every fucking corner of the map with their overbuffed, 200ms TTK weapons, this will make for some great competitive gameplay. I don't think I've been that I've ever been burned over a game ever before, but that's some second degree shit right there.

Played a lot of FH with a German clan. Great game.

I gotta say I like BF1 as well though. The new maps are great.
