I've searched this forum as well as taleworlds and google and can't find the answer, so I'll ask it directly...
The Langes Messer is a One Handed weapon, but switches to a Two Handed weapon when used in Secondary Mode.
In Secondary Mode, does it now benefit from the Two Handed skill instead of the One Handed?
You would think it should, but I don't know how the game determines whether something is one handed or two handed (if it's a base constant for each item or not).

Yes. All alternative mode weapons use their 2ndairy weapon type skill. This means throwers use 1h or polearm skill when used in their secondary as well.
-
when ur uisng it as a 1H its ur 1H wpf that determines ur speed and dmg...
When ur using it as a 2H its ur 2H wpf...
-
Thanks for clearing that up for me!

Something else that needs clearing up - Does the Langes Messer suffer a speed penalty when used 1 handed with a shield? The katana and Morningstar can both be used with a shield but I was told (and have experienced) that they suffer a serious speed penalty for doing so, is this also true of the Langes Messer?
-
Langes messer is the best weapon in the game for cav/archer/xbow. I use one and endorse it fully. 1 slot better than a bastard sword and good looking. Too bad about the underhand stab though.

If you don't have the powerstrike as an archer or xbowmen I think there are better options, but langes is still a great weapon in general.

I'm about 80% certain it does not. I think they coded the sword the way great long axes were coded in native (with no penalty to 2h/polearm mode.) A dev could probably confirm this.
-
It's a 1h weapon, so it has no shield penalty, the secondary mode won't change that.
-
Military Scythe is probably a little better. Spiked mace is always an option too.

kafein your wrong
1H uses 1H skill press x now a 2H uses 2H skill
-
It's a 1 handed weapon non the less, so no shield penalty.
In secondary mode, you start benefiting from 2 handed weapons wpf, and its a 2handed weapon, even though the stab animation is the same as the 2h secondary as polearm. It's not gonna get changed, confirmed by a dev, since it isn't supposed to be a full 2 handed in secondary mode.
Cheers.

Agreed on the "polearm" type thrust it uses. A bit useless on a weapon that's already shorter than most all of the 2handers.
But i'll still be using it with my shield for that heavy slash dmg and a thrust attack :)

No, Kafein meant, that a 2H incurs a penalty when used 1H+shield (like the Morningstar, Bastard, Katana etc) but the reverse is not true, meaning there is no modifier when using the Langes in 2H (other than switching WPF).
I just bought a Langes for this reason: as a 2H(144wpf)/1H(100wpf) primarily using a Heavy Bastard, I wanted to see how I'd fare as a Sword+Boarder with a short 2H once the shield breaks.

Bump: Last night I heard someone say that switching the Langes to 2H mode gives a +2 to speed and dmg? Is there any veracity to this statement?
-
Yes i believe it does more damage in 2h mode.
Unsure about speed but defo damage increase.
-
it does, for speed and damage
(using lange messer, and loving it )
