Sell/Trade / [TRADE] +2 Heavy Norman Shield
« on: August 02, 2011, 09:08:34 pm »
Reinforced Brown Heavy Norman Shield
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

weight: 8.5
body armor: 16
difficulty: 4
hit points: 512
speed rating: 86
shield height: 95
shield width: 25

I want to trade this little gem for something else, preferably a polearm, since that is what I retired into.  I have no shield skill atm so its just sitting unused in my inventory.  It is a very good shield, has great coverage, decent speed, and a ton of HP.  It basically won't break unless a guy with an axe hits it a lot or you take a million arrows.  Plus, it looks awesome.  Post here or PM me with offers.  I'll trade for mainly polearms or horses, but also maybe armor, 1h, 2h, etc.

Most all the good shields I have take 2 slots now.  Why was this changed?  There was no reason.  I can't even use a norman shield on horseback anymore if I want a sword/lance.  This is quite simply retarded--I hope this is merely another troll by chadz and co.  BTW you can't see the slot requirements on the website either, which sucks.

I was thinking about improving the faction system, as it strikes me as far too modern and consolidated for a Medieval-themed game.  IMO, the whole concept of factions should be dropped.  That's right, no factions.  At least, in the current meaning of the term.

Instead, introduce a complex vassalage system.  It would work this way.  Introduce five "ranks:" (names subject to change)

knight (owns no property)
duke (owns a village)
baron (owns a castle, or owns a village with a duke for a vassal)
prince (owns a city, or owns a castle with a baron for a vassal)
king (owns a city and has a prince for a vassal)

The way someone starts the equivalent of the factions we have now is to request people to swear fealty to him.  They become his vassal and join his "faction" color, similar to how it worked with factions.  The top guy gets to name his Duchy/Barony/Princedom/Kingdom like you can name factions now.  Depending on the quality of settlements you own, you would automatically go up in rank. (for example, you capture a castle and you automatically go up from a Duchy to a Barony.)

In addition, the duke/baron/prince/king would only be able to control his own settlement.  His vassals control the lands they own but pay a small tax to their lord.  If a vassal conquers a territory, they can opt to either a) keep it for themselves, b) give it to the king, or c) bestow it on a vassal of their own.

This will create a tiered vassalage system like Feudalism was in real life.  For example, in a kingdom, one of the barons might obtain some more land and bestow it on a vassal, independent of the king.*  This vassal pays a small tax to his lord, and so on, down from a king to a duke and knight.

Is your vassal not cooperating?  Too bad, that's part of politics and a relationship-based system of government.  Go raze his castle to the ground and show him whose boss.  Okay that's a little over-the-top, but you get the point.  Civil wars, discord, etc will be able to happen if you don't know your vassals.  It will hurt big clans in some respects, but also provide a lot more internal strife.  The game won't just be faction A attack faction B.  It might be the king of kingdom A attacks kingdom B, but some of kingdom B's dukes break off their allegiance and side with kingdom A.  Or, a full-blown civil war within a single faction.

You should have the option of offering vassalage to defeated enemies (but again, pick wisely).  Vassals could decide to break off from your faction, and they take their lands and armies with them.  The faction leader won't have absolute power to do whatever he pleases.**

*for the sake of gameplay sanity, the king should have to approve the decision, else it will be chaos with too many people entering the kingdom.

**as a caveat, vassals should have the option of giving their liege lords control of their lands.  This should be done for gameplay reasons, since we all don't play 24/7.

For example, some guy (we'll call him Bob) wants to play with his clan buddies together in strategus.  He declares himself a knight and invites his friends (or they request) to become his vassals.  Their rank is knight.  Bob conquers a village, he gets promoted to duke and starts the Duchy of XXXXXXXX.  His knight friend conquers a village also and is promoted to duke.  This promotes Bob to the rank of Baron.  Baron Bob then conquers a castle and gives his first village to one of his knights.  et cetra.  They build up a kingdom, each of his princes and barons have vassals under them, etc.

tl;dr version:

add a Feudal system of government.  Have ranks, with each rank having vassals under him/her.  It will add more depth to the faction system and create intra-faction fighting and more fun (and drama, we all love e-drama).

Sell/Trade / [Want to trade] MW Military Cleaver for MW 1H sword.
« on: June 27, 2011, 06:13:00 am »
I have a 1H Masterwork Military Cleaver, but I'm getting a bit tired of it.  I would like to trade it for another good 1H sword.  If anyone is interested send me a PM or post here.  Tell me what weapon you would like to trade and it would be nice if you would post the stats, too.  If it is a more expensive sword, I can throw in a bit of cash to equalize the value.  But really, the cleaver is a pretty boss weapon even though its cheap.  Its actually a good thing when dealing with upkeep I might add.

Masterwork Cleaver has these stats:
weapon length: 92
weight: 2.5
difficulty: 14
speed rating: 97
weapon length: 92
thrust damage: 0 pierce
swing damage: 38 cut
slots: 1

The 1H swords I want the most are:
Elite Scimitar
Nordic Champion Sword
Langes Messer
Arabian Cavalry Sword

If you have any of these heirloom 3 times let me know and we can try to do business.

Scene Editing / Helm's Deep suggestion thread
« on: February 12, 2011, 07:03:34 am »
Before I start seriously revising this map, I'd like some feedback and suggestions on how to fix it.  Right now it seems the flag is too far away, defenders rarely spawn on the Deeping Wall, and its rather difficult to attack.  Also, some of the doors break strangely.  Any feedback will be appreciated.

Suggestions Corner / How about Faradon's Norman Helmets?

see here: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,85220.0.html

I believe these are in the Vikingr mod, right?  They look quite nice in there and I'd love to see them in cRPG.

cRPG Technical problems / Login to strategus--bugged or just down?
« on: February 02, 2011, 01:36:55 am »
I dunno if this is a bug or if its like this for everybody.  When I try to log into strategus, it says this:

no char was found with user: nK_CtrlAltDelete, pass: *************************
deleting your cookies now

Found another hero of you - name: nK_CtrlAltDelete
if you are desperate, you could delete him. [WARNING] by clicking this link and DELETING HIM, HIS ITEMS, EVERYTHING IN STRATEGUS: delete nK_CtrlAltDelete

I don't know why it won't sync up with my old character, the name is the same and I haven't done anything different.

Now that the equipment in cRPG has changed quite a bit, I'd really like to see this, and I think it feasible.  I'm just not quite sure on the proper implementation.  Basically, a merc in a strategus battle should have to bring their own equipment to battle.  This will make mercs more unique and valuable and help people get a reputation.  Maybe you can count on one guy as a great heavy cavalryman, so you are willing to pay him lots of gold.  Another might be a skilled 2 hander or archer that you can count on.  Of course, this would mean you'd need to pay them a lot more gold.  But you wouldn't have to purchase as much equipment for the battle.

IMO this has several benefits, in addition to making mercs more unique and not just another number.  For example:

It makes things more realistic and fun, I hope at least.  I know I'd like it.

It will make mercs more cautious in battle, since their equipment is there own.

Groups/clans will get more recognition, and they will be able to use their own "uniform" and use their own tactics as a squad.

Mercs will bring more variation in the equipment and weapons seen on the battlefield, and may lead to some maneuvers that take the enemy team off-guard.

Now, how to do this exactly, I'm not really sure.  Maybe the easiest way is to make it just like a cRPG battle; you bring your own junk, and it can break and need repairs.  Alternatively, have players buy their own stuff on strategus and use that equipment, not their cRPG stuff.

Suggestions Corner / Round bonus modifier adjustment
« on: January 13, 2011, 04:11:59 am »
IMO the round multiplier is too high.  x5 xp is really nice when you get it, but rather over the top imo.  I'd like to see base gold upped slightly and the following done: make the multiplier increase by .75 (or thereabouts) each time you win.  So first time is x1, win and you get x1.75, win again and you get x2.5, win again and you get x3.25, et cetra.  This would tone down the massive win bonus a bit but still give a lot of incentive to win.

I've also heard people ask for it to cap at x3, which might be a good idea too.  What does the community think?

General Discussion / How effective is half swording?
« on: January 08, 2011, 08:46:49 pm »
I'm thinking of making an alt character as a two-handed swordsman, and I was wondering how effective half swording is, if anyone has used it much.  I was thinking of putting some points into polearm if its any good.  If anybody has experience with it, do share.

If you turn on manual repair I think it still lists the stuff at the old 20% price on the website--but uses the new 5% price in actuality.  At least it seemed that way earlier today.  If anybody could confirm this, I would appreciate it (unless its already been fixed).

General Discussion / The new patch is a breath of fresh air
« on: January 06, 2011, 10:45:04 pm »
Well amid all the whining post I thought I'd throw this in here.  This is party a discussion thread but also party a suggestion thread, as you shall see.  But now to the substance of this here post

*ahem*

So after playing cRPG often for several months, I must say I've never enjoyed it so much as now, despite the bugs.  The new upkeep system is quite wonderful, as it adds more to character customization than zerg to the highest level armor/weapon.  Now you must weigh not only the weapon stats, but its cost, when deciding what to buy.  I've bought some things--and I've seen others do the same--which I never would have purchased before because, although it was good for the price, it wasn't top level equipment.  This is great because it adds a lot more variety and gets more equipment used.

Secondly, the new XP system is great.  No longer do you have to grind retirements or stay clustered together in a mob and bash into the other mob with no tactic or organization.  I've been flanking, defending positions, and other such things which I didn't do before because you got no XP doing it.  Also, playing siege has been fun, but that's a bit off topic so I won't go further.  The grind has been severely reduced.  Now you can just play and try to win and not worry about XP.  This is a great thing and makes the game a lot more fun.

The biggest flaw I see in the new system is the fact that winning gives you such a high bonus.  Normally this wouldn't be an issue, since the better organized & skilled team should work together to win and get a reward, right?  Not really, because autostack autobalance throws you in randomly with whoever.  I think I saw something about autobalance by banner, which is a step in the right direction for more teamwork.  But the system needs more work.  Right now you get tons more XP for winning, which you can hardly control.  I'd really like to see the default xp/gold turned up a little and the bonus reduced to X .50 each win or less.

Now about the upkeep, I will say a few more words.  The folks who want to play the game to have fun and use all kinds of armor and sundry times are out having fun, while the tincan chinese gold farmers who have no skill are complaining "zomg chadz mah armor costs too much! waaah waaah"  At this I smile.  The game has gotten a lot more like Native in this respect.  In Native you run around with low/mid level gear most of the time, and if you do good, then you can afford some high-level gear.  This now is quite similar.  Now I anticipate much of the cRPG population, upon reading this, will think: "but cRPG isn't supposed to be like native, its supposed to be a constant grindfest where everyone wears plate with lightning fast 2-hand swords and the guy with the higher stats beats everyone else to a pulp customizable!"  Well, I don't think that was chadz vision.

If I may venture a guess, I think chadz wanted to make a mod which took the best parts of Native, but adds persistent stats and customized equipment.  Which this patch does well.  Not do say it doesn't have its shortfalls.  There are still many.  In fact, you will probably see me posting a lot here wanting things changed.  Yet I think we've got the nuts and bolts of the engine made, so to speak, and now we just need to fine tune it.  And here are some ideas to get us started thinking about this:

I'd like to see cRPG money dis-linked from Strategus and a Strategus economy added.  I know this will take some work and time.

As I already mentioned, the autobalance needs to be changed.  Please let us play with our clan mates.  You are never going to get good teamwork out of pubs, especially without some kind of voice server for everyone to use.  Maybe throw in some kind of squad system (perhaps an evolution of the current battalions?)  Let autobalance reassign everyone in the squad at once, so people can stay together with their friends and clan mates.  This is still one of my biggest complaints, since it feels very lonely playing by my self.  There is no point being on vent when half the people there are on the other team, and you are just going to get autobalanced in a few rounds away from the ones on your team.  Or maybe make some clan system built into cRPG (separate from Strategus since some people have alts).  I'm sure you bright folks can think of something.

And where are the American servers?  I'm tired of playing with 150-200 ping D:

An a totally different idea, show gold ingame on your stats page.  That way if I'm wondering "should I wear my heavy set of armor this round, or do I have enough extra money?" I can simply press C, check, and make a decision.  Also some kind of counter showing the maximum repair bill you will have to pay for your current equipment (ie if all your stuff got damaged, how much would it cost).

Game Balance Discussion / Hard level cap -- serious suggestion
« on: January 04, 2011, 04:07:25 pm »
Well I just wrote up a nice long post but the forum decided to eat it :(  So I'll make this a bit briefer.

The main reason I am suggesting this is because of the current retirement system.  People who have retired >10 times are now grinding like mad trying to rank up as fast as they can while they still have the bonus.  They know (and rightfully) that this will allow them to keep ahead of the curve after the patch comes out and it becomes harder to get past lvl 30.  They will basically be permanently ahead of the curve.  I don't think this is what chadz intended/intends for things to be like, but unless I am mistaken it will happen.  I suggest a hard level cap of lvl 40 (maybe less) to go along with the patch.  That's enough to make a nice customized character (which is what cRPG is all about, right?), but not enough to make an overpowered uber lvl 60 super-fast, super-strong, plate wearing horse archer.
