I think it's fine the way it is, it's already been discussed at the TW thread, so as far as I'm concerned: Where do I sign?

Does specific rules have been discuted already :

Cav/Jousting rules : what happens when you kill the horse of your enemy? (disqualification or win)

Ranged : what happens when you don't have ammo anymore? (disqualification, i guess)

Excuse me for not fully reading the discussion on the forums, but what about the environment? Are duels being held at an open place, arena or random? What I'd like to know is how much one can use his environment to win a fight.

Hmm. I have wrote the EU3 duel server. However the Fallen arena tournament server might be better?

Dunno about maps. In FFA everything is allowed....

Wrong thread... :D

I apologize, I had both topics open at the same time and I did not double check in which one I was posting. I have deleted my post.

Back on topic, do you have any rules about armors and weapons? I'm particularly interested in Throwing Lances, armors above 55 defense and Lance of Compensation.

All weapons are allowed within the weapon type mentioned in the sub-category.

All armours are allowed in all categories.

EU3?  Any possibility for NA duel server?

Unfortunately no. This will be an EU only tournament (or for NA with high ping). I have sincere hope that any NA resident will arrange a similar tournament for you guys.

Because after patch this kind of mock battle can be setup. Else it can be hard to find a server with no autobalance unless through strategus which was not the plan.
Title: Re: The cRPG Tournament unofficially official - Discussion
Post by: Leiknir on January 04, 2011, 02:57:44 am
Hmm, true.
Yet using strategus doesnt sound that stupid, each team gets a budget and has to buy equipment with it, every team gets 15 tickets. If you die, you have to wait at spawn for the next "round". If you defeat all 5 of your enemies, you can chose to respawn yourself (trough tk/free kill) to reset hp/ammo. Best of 3 rounds, ofc.

Leiknir: I just think that it would cause to much trouble asking everyone to move around on the map to find each other.

Would like to know the date of the tournament before signing up

Ah. Fail. I didn't explicitly say this. My intention was that the combatants had to finish the duel before a certain date. next round before another date and then so on.

Blondin asked this before, but what happens in a cav fight when one of the horses dies? Do you just continue, or is the horsekiller disqualified?
And are you allowed to dismount if you feel like it?
Title: Re: The cRPG Tournament unofficially official - Discussion
Post by: The_Bloody_Nine on January 04, 2011, 02:51:28 pm
from the sign-thread:
The Rules

§6: All fights are to the death. If cavalry is dismounted they continue fights only sidearms within their weapon category. If ranged run out of ammo they loose. Ranged cavalry run out of ammo they loose.
Title: Re: The cRPG Tournament unofficially official - Discussion
Post by: TomMyyY on January 04, 2011, 03:16:27 pm
So that would mean I could equip a lance of compensation, couch someones horse and then couch the player to death while he is dismounted?

I'm no cavalryman, but IMO killing the opponents horse should result in killer being disqualified / losing the match. It is highly dishonourable to kill the opponents mount.

Sure, but not in FFA.

In FFA will you be able to use terrain, walls (assuming that there would be something like that on the map) etc to your advantage, or will there be a strict area where you are allowed to fight in?

Agree with you on FFA, no restricitions their.

My thoughts on map is, that it will be on server 3 with the ruins map? And people be allowed to use terrain?

I totally agree with losing the round if you kill the horse.

That's why i ask this, cos imo this must result in a killer disqualification, ofc only for jousting. Same for the lance, everybody should have the same (heavy lance for example).
Btw, with some friends we have jousted in Fallen server, they have a special area for this and it's nice.

I am not going to limit people on what lances they are going to use. That is voluntary.

But killing horse will now result in disqualification.

The ruleset has been updated.

That would be the same for all categories, again it would then be native. This is cRPG and your build (amongst others) your eq matters.

Ok it's cRPG but it's a tournament, and it's not the same for other categories as you can have different styles of play with different weapons (cut, pierce, blunt, long reach, speed, damages...) so it's more a choice.
But for jousting you only have one style, so i find it more fair to have the same lance.
But it's your tournament so you choose!
Obiousvly with new gold earning, everybody can afford a heavy lance or a LoC, but i believe LoC is unbalanced an unfair (imo).

Restoring health is a default at duel servers...
BUT
What about shields and ammo? Those are not restored after each duel. Since it's best of three, do I have to fight all three rounds with the same shield and same supply of ammo?
Or should I jump off a building after each round to get my initial equipment back?

Title: Re: The cRPG Tournament unofficially official - Discussion
Post by: RO_FearMyArrow on January 11, 2011, 01:54:51 pm
I think everyobdy should have a fresh start each round. For example a shield keeps his damage from duel to duel, eventually end' s up in pieces after 1-2 duels.
And also IMO a cavalry duel should be fought tot the death of one player. It's much easier to kill a horse than the rider. If he's dehorsed he should try to fight with his alt or main weapon. But in most cases the two players will end up fighting on the ground.
Title: Re: The cRPG Tournament unofficially official - Discussion
Post by: Ishar on January 11, 2011, 01:55:07 pm
I think a clear start would be better. Suicide or rejoin would do the trick.

Imagine a ranged duel, both players have 12 shots for example. One guy wins is 7 shots, he's got 5 left. Now he clearly won the round, but he has to start the next one at a disadvantage: He has only 5 shots, while the other one has 12. If he's out of ammo, he lost.
Same thing about shields: if I break my opponent's shield, but he kills me after that, I would have a HUGE advantage in the next round - I have a brand new shield after respawn, and he has nothing.
Title: Re: The cRPG Tournament unofficially official - Discussion

A) If you kill the horse you are disqualified, enemy dead or no.

Pairing shieldless one handers with two-handers will put 'em at disadvantage.
Perhaps creating an additional sub cathegory would be better.

I have one very important question:

Instead of doing elimination type tournament I could create a "magic" like tournament?

I don't know if you tried, but basicly the winner faces other winners while losers faces loosers. Next round people are again seeded etc.

This makes sure, that no one only gets one match, and it ranks people... Best of it is that Its all in a neat little program. Would you mind risking fighting more than one battle? I like it for the simple reason that some players might risk a very hard first round, and stil get a chance to fight in another. This is mostly in the larger categories... the smaller ones it doesn't matter.

Things this program takes into consideration:
a) How many rounds won/lost
b) How good your opponent was against whom you won/lost

and several other things...

What do you think? this or just straight elimination tournament.
Title: Re: The cRPG Tournament unofficially official - Discussion
Post by: Ishar on January 19, 2011, 01:23:51 pm
That would mean too many rounds I think. In an elimination tournament with 16 participants, one guy fights 4 matches at most. This should be an acceptable amount of organizing for everyone. You can get in contact with four people, work out a mutually beneficial date for the duel, etc. Doing this with potentially much more people would require more commitment from every player.
That could either lead to a lot of cancelled matches, or it could take forever.

@Ishar: No, it would only mean four rounds for everyone. Not everyone would have to face each other. Its pretty smart. I decided to do it, and it won't be hard. Largest advantage is that losers will have a chance to fight against other losers :D. Its called a swiss type tournament:

@Gazda: yeah. I have been busy so haven't done anything yet. Please just post your changes here and I will fix it.

No. You can never face the same opponent twice.

Basicly you will be awarded point on how many duels you won, how those you won and lost against fared in the tournament and how much you won against them. I have a program that takes all these things into consideration.

Round one is random matchup. Round two all winners will face each other losers will face each other etc. etc. for four rounds. In the smaller categories each will face each opponent once, but never more than four rounds!

Oh well tournament running... Sweet.

We might as well begin to discuss the last category, which we can play once the no balance only banner server is up.

5vs5 with 150k limit, max 50k per soldier.
10vs10 with 300k limit max 50k per solider
5vs5 no limit
10vs10 no limit.

What should be the rules...

Swiss tournament so all clans get more than one battle? Larger clans could sign up several teams...

That was a good question. Are shields allowed in throwing duels?
No shields in throwing. Only weapon types allowed are those mentioned. Shield has never been mentioned in the ranged categories. :D

Ye, have to fight him as well.. let's hope he shows up in time, 3 (or more?) walk-overs would be a bit much.

I disliked not being allowed to play my classes as they are normally played:

Allow throwers to use a shield, thats what throwing is about, not long range artillery or short range full pt knive spamming. Got full pt? Well, you are going to destroy the enemy shield fast if you use real stuff, and not just spam darts/knives.

And horse ranged should be looked into again, too. Horse throwing sees no light against horse archery without shields. Also, the "no killing of the horse" rule may fit to the jousting tournament, but not here. Thats what horse ranged is about, killing horses. Atleast if you kill the horse of a thrower, I think he gets more deadly anyways, giving yourself a disadvantage.

(totaly am a sore loser if I can only use half my char, I know :p)

All valid points. I will make an evaluation thread once tournament is over, so we can gather up the lessons learned.

i think this tournament should be in a span of 1-3 days with brackets etc, not each round one week as for people who do not have alts retiring equals forfeit from tournament ;/ as it was shown with couple of people in this tournament
