General Discussion / New Armors from the Víkingr Mod
« on: July 08, 2017, 05:06:25 am »
Heya, folks.

I've been getting some requests to see what armors I've sent along to be added in the next patch, so I've taken the time to take pictures of the armors I thought would make a good addition.

There are plenty of great armors in Víkingr, but unfortunately I could not get permission for all of them. Many are from OSPs cRPG has already used, but some of the best were developed by the lead developer for the Víkingr mod specifically, and required permission from that developer. With assistance, I was able to get in touch with him a little more than a year ago.

I sent Dupre the armors a long time ago now, and I do not know which armors work well in cRPG. Considering Víkingr also uses WSE, I figure their shouldn't be too much trouble, but I will state this now:
NONE OF THESE ARMORS ARE GUARANTEED.

Anglo-Saxon mail

This armor has two other colors.

Valsgärde helmet

These were the main armors I hope will be added. There are some Celtic (specifically Gaelic) armors in the mod as well, but I could not get permission for the mail. There are other Gaelic armors, but they are essentially tweed outfits. They look good, but they would be pretty low-tier armor, and we have enough of that.

Very excited to see some of these make their way into the mod. Thanks again to Dansk viking and Moeckerkalfie for giving us permission to add these.

General Discussion / A Direct Appeal to chadz
« on: March 14, 2017, 08:47:13 pm »
Before I begin, I would like to address the elephant in the room that is OKAM. I don't know on what terms you left the development team, but I do understand no longer being a part of the project you began must be incredibly disappointing, and you have my sympathy. But you should know that the support you received from the cRPG community speaks volumes to the quality of work you put into your first game. I know you did not design Warband from the ground up, but you and the Donkey Crew transformed the Mount & Blade multiplayer experience from a one-and-done novelty into a fun RPG that has lived on for around 7 years.

I think I can speak for many of the members of this community when I say this game is a masterpiece. There are some flaws with the changes that came to how points worked in 2013 and 2014, but those changes have not ruined this game by any stretch of the imagination. Discussing it with James, he put it well by saying it's analogous to CS 1.6, a sort of timeless classic with solid mechanics. This, combined with the the customization of both class and armor, has given this game endless replayability, even if you need to take a break from it every now and then.

In the off-chance you've read this, I want to thank you for the time you've put in to creating a fun game for all of us, be it cRPG or OKAM. While you can't control the fate of OKAM, you certainly have the power to continue making cRPG a great experience for the fans who've stuck around all these years. It's very time-consuming, I understand, but there are people around who would love to help. With the revival in recent weeks, it would be a shame for everyone to part ways again because the mod has fallen into minor disrepair. There are still new faces showing up on the servers, and I think it's only fair that they have an equally fun experience as the rest of us have had these many years. cRPG continues to be the most fun and competitive multiplayer mod for Mount & Blade, so why not keep it that way?

Thanks for taking the time, and all the best.

cRPG Technical problems / Animation Troubles
« on: February 24, 2016, 04:59:21 am »
Heya folks, I've been having a lot of trouble with animations, and I'm wondering if there are any solutions. The biggest problem is  that I am not seeing what my character is actually doing. I get stuck holding blocks when I'm actually swinging, or I am not swinging at until I see the actual swing going out. I am also seeing the swing change which direction it's coming from when I'm holding the attack to when I let go. This happens with all melee weapons and shields. Is this a latency issue? Graphics too high? WSE2? It's been happening for a long time now, but I'm just now noticing it impacting my performance. Any help would be appreciated.

Suggestions Corner / Viking Conquest (Brytenwalda DLC) Armor

Thanks again for the support on this thread. I was wondering what you folks thought about the Viking Conquest armor. Here are some screencaps of the nicest ones I saw.

I'm pretty on-the-fence about them. On the one hand, I think they're some pretty fancy-looking armors, but on the other hand, the longer you look at them, the worse they somehow get. Am I just seeing things? Or do you agree? Part of it could be the image compression, but then there were some odd effects that kept ruining my pictures. For example, the bear and the wolf pelt both shine like metal armor in the light (blindingly so; I had to take the wolf pelt picture in the shade just to be able to see it).

Suggestions Corner / Víkingr Armor
« on: July 24, 2015, 12:59:53 am »
Shameless repost I made a little more than a year ago. I've been really happy with the work the devs have done to add and update the armors of cRPG. I STRONGLY suggest taking another look at the armors in Víkingr. They are all very well textured and should be compatible with cRPG since Víkingr runs on WSE (I am computer illiterate, so I might be very wrong about that).

Here are some screens I captured of my favorite armors from the mod.

A few more in my album on imgur for the curious.

And if you're wondering these armors are indeed open-source, the answer is a resounding eh, not so much...

General Discussion / What's wrong with cRPG right now?
« on: January 30, 2015, 09:36:34 pm »
They made an interesting move and released a patch that brought many players back into the game, the largest server populations we had seen for a couple years, then they did nothing to capitalize on this success. There were many flaws in the new system that could have been easily fixed, but it never happened. Here's some pictures to illustrate my point.

If you're not noticing the pattern:

I haven't played for a few months, so maybe I missed an update from the devs, but seriously? Why has there not been a patch since October?

I think they're just fucking with us at this point. For the German-illiterate, it should be Kriegsmesser.

And while we're at it.

Deutsches Forum / [Seriös] Muttersprachler, ich brauche ihre Hilfe!
« on: February 04, 2014, 10:02:38 pm »
Hallo Leute,

Vielen Dank!

Hey, folks. I just noticed that there is no fanfare between rounds on DTV like there is on Battle and Siege. You know, the short songs that tell you whether you won or lost? It would be very helpful to the honest players who are actually waiting to play rather than leeching!

cRPG Technical problems / "Connection to server is lost" Simple Question!
« on: December 29, 2013, 10:46:23 am »
Just a quick question. I had to move my desktop at home up two floors, setting me very far away from my router. I think it is because of this that I am now frequently disconnected from servers via the classic "Connection is lost". When this happens, I remain connected in TS with a minor hiccup, and my connection remains with my router. My question is, if I moved the router closer to my desktop, would it resolve this issue? Or is this unrelated?

General Discussion / Revoke chadz's Right to Speak the German Language
« on: December 23, 2013, 10:29:17 am »
TL;DR chadz cannot speak German and it ruins cRPG

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to address a game-breaking problem that ruins my gameplay experience, namely my immersion, and request that chadz's clearly broken Austrian German-speaking rights be revoked. Before you is convincing evidence that the developer of this mod has the speaking abilities of a first-semester student of the German language from the United States. The problem lies in the heart of the game itself.

Figure A
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

As you can see in Figure A, the ever-so-complicated adjective endings of the German word Messer are inconsistent, the latter being absolutely wrong, misguiding we Fremdsprachler everywhere. First and foremost, we must identify the gender of the word to successfully decline this adjective.

Figure B
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

From the infallible Duden dictionary, the gender of the word Messer is neuter. Now we must choose how to decline the adjective. Considering that the word Messer is unpreceded (meaning, not followed by an article or pronoun of any sort) and that it is in the nominative case, we will consult the chart and make a wise decision as to how to decline gross.

Figure C
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

With Figure C, we can conclude that the adjective gross should be followed by the ending -es, which is currently not the case.

I would like to make a direct appeal to the United Nations to arrest this vagrant for his lack of care towards the German people and their language, and implore every German speaker with self respect to only speak to this man in a language other than the one he so openly debauches.

Thank you for your time.

I am going to totally revise this post, but if you would like to see the original, hit the spoiler below.

Are there classes in cRPG? If so, what are they, and what are their roles? If there aren't classes, is that a good thing?
Should all playstyles be equally dangerous/risky?
Do balance issues lie in builds, weapons, or both if either?
