General Discussion / Re: Meanwhile on NA1

And maybe in the future the boundaries will be pushed even more. Who's to say light speed is the maximum we can achieve? Pfff... casuals.

Well if you watch Black mirror you can also catch your friends' soul in your local network, perma < 1 ms ping!

Give it a couple years Asheram and we will have fast enough internet that NA can play on EU servers full time and enjoy our numerous strong population.
In the past I calculated what would be the lowest theoretical ping that we can have between Paris and New-York and it is :

Distance: 5844 km or 3631 milles
Celerity/speed of the light in vacuum: 300000 km/s
Celerity/speed of the light in single-mode fiber: 200000 km/s

Travel duration: Distance / speed = 29.22 ms, so basically a ping of 30 ms which is pretty good.

Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_fiber#Index_of_refraction
Quote
To put it another way, the signal will take 5 milliseconds to travel 1,000 kilometers in fiber.
Thus a phone call carried by fiber between Sydney and New York, a 16,000-kilometer distance, means that there is a minimum delay of 80 milliseconds (about 1/12 of a second) between when one caller speaks and the other hears. (The fiber in this case will probably travel a longer route, and there will be additional delays due to communication equipment switching and the process of encoding and decoding the voice onto the fiber).

Eu1 server is hosted in Germany at Frankfurt am Main giving a theoretical ping:

  • Paris: 478 km: 2.4 ms
  • London: 639 km: 3.2 ms
  • New-York: 6210 km: 31 ms
  • Denver: 8125 km: 40.6 ms
  • San Francisco: 9144 km: 45.7 ms

So it's in theory possible to play together without lag!

And for the fun :

Earth to the Moon is approx 384403 km (238857 miles) giving a ping of 1922 ms, no way to play online with Moon people!

General / Re: Release the game to steam!

If all you want is simply to use Steam overlay on cRPG it's possible by creating a non Steam game:

"...\MountBlade Warband\crpg_beta.exe"

And put as arguments: --beta

Better don't put too much effort into it these days.
Yep, they should first try to fix other mods, like Battle, then players will probably come back again, let's hope.

Totally agree

but just one thing that will make it hard to implement is to avoid players to stay a their base to respawn-killing the flow, they will have to make many random sections of respawn and with a number of at least 5 or 6 in the same time, with maybe a restricted zone? but what happens if bots get stuck?!, and it would surely require to modify the maps that would make it complicate and long to implement.

The concept is interesting but the implementation is complicate to imagine.

I forgot all about that. Used to actually make sense since any cav build would be severely nerfed in the old dtv, being unable to actually be a "cav" build and all. Now that you can ride horses this seems a tad OP, rofl.
Well a lot of cavs on DTV use horse to move quickly at the beginning of the first wave, horses can't be healed, so unless having a heavy horse with a heavy armor to survive to arrows raining they never last longer. And when I use my medium-heavy cav build I never gain money with the high repair incomes.
Cavalry is usefull to kill the last bots standing stuck at their respawn and give ability to infantry to fall back, basically a support class that how it should be.

Make it strength based like in the past, it's fun and helpful.

I agree DTV is the best option for low population cRPG. It can be played with even 1 player and will slowly build population. Then when the group wipes generally if there are enough people they can hop over to battle and get that server started.
You get the answer, DTV server is easy to populate, but not Battle or Siege.

That's why Battle and Siege should implement a progressive restriction to avoid to unbalance teams with just a single player, by limiting the power/armor/weapon of character bellow a certain number of players.

Seriously, who would play Battle below 10 players online when starting a new build level 1? Except loving to get raped by everything that move. Non veteran have clearly no chance, and balancing is really hard to manage in this actual way.

People that don't understand DTV should simply don't like or understand the aim of cooperative.
It's more about team playing and organization that I never found in other Battle or Siege mod, or there is 3 or 4 years ago maybe.

Of course DTV bots are dumb and easy to block, but a lot of people don't play DTV to grind XP, at least that's my case to get fun.
But if bots were more intelligent, less unpredictable and finally make it more competitive I would greatly appreciate.

I personally play on the multiplayer only cooperative games since years, even FPS (I was an old Counter Strike player in 1.6 & CZ, later OFP, and Insurgency now), I stopped playing pvp because a lot or mainly players were more worried to their K/D ratio that making to win their team, and sadly it's the same on cRPG, none would be a support class that doesn't would gain points, and that's the problem, they simply don't get the the point/fun of collective game, everyone want to be on the top score and individualist, making an unrealistic builds just because it's the best way to rule the game, no matter how the mood/ambience of the server is fucked up.

This and many other hidden things like the minimum required wpf per Power Throw skill.
And the many other hidden features.

After 8 years playing cRPG I still don't know if it is 12 or 13 per skill, yet I still have message "your proficiency in throw is too low".

So except devs that get access to the formulas and some few privileged, the rest are fooled.
And for sure if I was a dev I would divulge these information, that's probably why I never became one.

Another example, that's only few person know, on DTV you don't need to have Athletics and Riding, if you invest all your points in Riding you get hidden Athletics points to the same amount.

thanks to chadz who always made it trouble and secret, even after we, the community, invested for one of his project.
