Comodore, i must say you have some vital points in your reasoning about modding and you did some good things there , enritching the game experiance for some ppl. But on the other hand you turn it into a raging version of fame whoring, flaming against the devs and polarizing the community. Are you so desperately looking for "respect" from others, not able to be content with what you did for others yet, and making them happy ?  .... why the fuck you dont give it a try, to work with the community and the devs together? did the hardships in your life make you unable to see the other side of the coin ?

First I was "raging", now I'm "fame whoring", "flaming" and "not trying". I'd like to think that my statements are nothing like that, and that they speak for themselves, but if that's really what you read then there's nothing I can do.

I'm not "desperately" looking for anything. If the community is polarized, it isn't because I polarized it. Anyway, it was only after I started making a point about these things that CMP and chadz began to actually explain their intentions in a reasonable way, such that they might address the concerns of people like myself:

I guess we could have somebody take care of that, yes. Have the game periodically update whitelists from a web page, so that no patch is needed and even minor mods can be added quickly.

Believe me, I would love to have heard something like that from him to begin with, avoiding this whole issue. Too late now though.

And Jesus, I never wanted this to be so ugly. Fame whoring, my ass. I don't exist here anymore, so I can't be famous or infamous.

Peace to all! Bye now!

Is it only me who doesn't understand why some people can't play the fucking game without turning it into something different? Ok nevermind, I just never liked to replace something in the original games.
But seriously, what's the problem? With all respect to what you've done for other players, I don't get why you have to leave just because you're forced to play with original textures. Well if you really can't stand it, good bye then and good luck to you, it's a pity you leave.

Man, sorry to stir your ire here... but, if you don't understand why "people can't play the fucking game without turning it into something different", why are you playing a mod? Also, have you ever posted a suggestion? If so, why can't you just play the fucking game without trying to turn it into something different?

And really, I'm not leaving because I'm forced to play with original textures. I'm leaving (or, have left) because a developer directly expressed his utter lack of respect for me, one of his players, and my needs and opinions. He basically told me to go, so I did. No hard feelings. I would just rather put my time into a community that's aware of and nurturing of its invested and well-meaning members.

And finally:

Just noticed this. Lol dude, you know what human is? Human is some tough-son-of-a-bitch creature which can overcome many many many things.

I have no idea what you've gone through in your life, but believe me man, the lesson you're trying to impart here is already well learned. I said I probably shouldn't be spending time playing videogames right now, not "I'm going to die, fuck this, I better play some video games" - that's actually the opposite. No idea where you got that. But if you're presuming some personal weakness on my part because of what I said... don't. I truly hope you've never dealt with the hardships I have, but chances are that either way, if you knew them and knew how I've faced them you would consider me a fine example of the "tough-son-of-a-bitch creature" that is a Human being.

Thank you all for considering what I've written. I challenge you to play with making your own stuff for Warband - seriously, it has a thriving modding community unlike any game out there, and the resources and support really do exist such that you can make it your own. You'll open up a whole new world for yourselves.

Enjoy the future!

Off topic, don't kill me.
If you really do read a lot of books, may I suggest my favorite book, Everlost by Neal Shusterman?

I don't see any reason why your body mesh replacer would NOT get whitelisted.

however

sounds horrible. get off the internet right now if youre really terminally ill

haha, well I'm not that far gone I guess, but there's little else you can do when you're bedridden, mate. Don't worry, I'm reading a lot of books and drinking fine wine. Frankly it seems like more of a travesty to me to spend time on the internet when you're full of vim.

When you’re in a position of authority and one of those you’re stewarding expresses a concern, you have two options.

A)   discuss and possibly even address their concerns.
B)   tell them to fuck off.

Option B is clearly quicker, easier and more universally applicable. And perhaps his choosing option B is just one example of CMP’s terrific efficiency at work. But in this case, I think it speaks toward the very way the rule he was discussing will be implemented. If he had said “don’t worry, simple stuff like what you’ve been doing will get whitelisted,” that would be that. But he didn’t, did he?

If I make a toy, I’m not going to wait around for weeks to see if they decide to let me have it. Especially when the already-stated position is “fuck you and your toys”. I’ll just go to another mod where I can have my cake and eat it too (like, I don't know, singleplayer.). And that’s fine, guys.

Mods will need to be whitelisted. Thats the worst reason to rage quit i've seen ever

It will help stop cheating, and any mods that don't give an unfair advantage will get whitelisted

Not a GTX man. Just a quit. But dude, be realistic. The admins don't answer people's most legit concerns. They're not going to spent time whitelisting a "mod" like "I turned the courser into a unicorn". It's too small, not universal enough, too unrealistic. It's for me and my friends. Who they don't care about.

Anyway, don't think I go with rage.

http://forum.meleegaming.com/suggestions-corner/cheating-textures/

I've been one of the few new voices around here, as far as I can tell, and one of the most active/vocal at that. Been playing a lot, participating in and out of game, and I think people have noticed. Made a few good connections - even got tapped to become an admin-in-training. However, the above thread, and the idiotic attitude of the Dev within, and lead me to believe that I am not valued here whatsoever. I'm just another punk gamer - there are hundreds of me - fuck me and what I think, there will always be more asses in computer chairs. And hey, that's fine. But I'll take my business elsewhere.

I'm not going to rage out and say "CRPG BLOWS" or anything. It doesn't. It's the best multiplayer mod I've ever seen. But literally half of the fun for me is making things for myself and others - enriching the community- it's sort of what makes Warband and all of its iterations special. The Devs know that - it's why they started modding, too. But that very spirit is apparently soon to be regarded as cheating around here, so I'm out.

So continues the reign of the old-timey "I hate this mod but I'm never leaving" players. Driven out is the new blood that actually enjoys time spent here.

Probably good for me in the long run. For all I know these are some of the last months of my life, and I really don't need to spend them grinding my lvl 17 character up to the point where I can begin to contend.

Bye CRPG! It's been mostly alright!

PS - giving all of my gold and looms to the Ravens of Valhalla. May they burn all of your cities to the ground.

Don't worry, it will only apply to cRPG.

Wow, smartass. Lost another one. Good job.

Actually, it will.

Alright, rule Melee: Battlegrounds with an iron fist - I just won't play it - but leave Warband alone. Seriously, its malleability is literally what makes it special, and if you can't see that then I don't know how the hell you got into modding it to begin with. The fact that we can alter this game as we please makes it more fun for us, and yes, makes your job (keeping the game fun) much, much easier. As someone once put it, some of us (those with slight know-how) can make our own eye-candy, instead of bothering you for it. Does that mean nothing to you?

Gmnotutoo wanted a unicorn, so I made the Courser into a unicorn for him. NuberT wanted a new look for his Long Maul, and I made it for him. Nazgull wanted the new Leather Scale Armor, but without the perma-hood (which makes it so that you're wearing two hoods if you put on headgear). I made it for him. That's three players whose personal experiences improved, at no time-cost to the Dev team. Add all the crap I've made for myself and you've got an easy 4. Add everyone who has downloaded the Naked Mesh I've made (assuming they liked it) and you've got, well, even more than that.

Are there lots of players doing this kind of thing for the community? Probably not. But I'm not alone. I mean, look at what Korgoth is doing - people love his new textures.

Kill this source of new life and you will kill the mod, at least for me - or at least seriously wound it.

... and all the other things floating around out there / Re: PW mod

Well hell, lets raid and pillage the best of their mod for ourselves.

Step one: Ronin finishes the sure-to-be-awesome Town map he's making for the duel servers, complete with a tavern and an Arena (http://forum.meleegaming.com/suggestions-corner/tavern-server-game-mode/)

Step two: We all continue to... not suck.

Step three: CRPG is the greatest.

Oh sheesh, I was hoping we could skip the diangostics :P

Anyway, tried clearing my cookies - no change, still black at native zoom. Using Firefox 19.0.2, which the browser says is up to date.

« on: March 16, 2013, 08:41:11 pm »
too many randomers and crap admins, in theory this is a great mod and i have enjoyed it sometimes. unfortunately the the farthest rp goes in there is "HALT! GIMMEZ UR MONEZ!!"

As I was saying in another thread, the secret to making a multiplayer RP game is not to say "here's your RP sandbox - go!". That always fails, because you can't trust everyone to be talented actors/storytellers. I've never played PW but I imagine it is victim to that same trap.

The trick is to create situations in which people act true to a character, without being prompted. For example, make room for banditry and reward those who pull it off and voila, you will have people who dedicate themselves to banditry - instant "RP" bandits. It's just a random example, but it's indicative of what's so good about Strat, I think. You don't need people to RP faction hierarchies like kings and generals (though it's nice when they do), because players, being humans, will naturally organize as such. Leaders will emerge organically. You don't need to offer pre-fab conflict, good vs. evil etc, because players will naturally develop their own animosities and their own reasons for war.

Scene Editing / Re: the Duel Server map
« on: March 16, 2013, 04:33:08 pm »
Most important thing for a duel map:

- small
- flat
- as few buildings as possible ;)

How do you figure that? Imagine: you spawn in a modest town square surrounded by buildings - all inaccessible but for two just ahead, side-by-side, with large torch-lit doors and hanging signs. They are a tavern and an Arena. Enter the arena and there are stairs up to the stands and stairs down to the pit. Enter the tavern and there is, well, tavern stuff.

People could just duel in the square and say to hell with the rest. Or, if they were interested, they could explore the other, more interesting spaces.

EDIT: Ruins is already large enough that, when there are only two people on, they end up typing "where are you"? anyway. And the answer is usually given with landmarks. "Near the little village." "In the center." etc. The new map would only be more useful in that way.

I liked this idea a lot. I'm volunteer to do the scenening. Should I wait if the devs make a comment on this idea, or just finish the scenening as soon as possible to increase the chance of being accepted?

I think we can see that the easiest way to get this done would be to make a new Duel Server map, as opposed to a new game-mode/server... it could meet a lot of the checkpoints, with much less effort. To that end I wrote a thread in the Scenes sub-forum asking just who is in charge of the "map rotation" in duel:

http://forum.meleegaming.com/scene-editing/the-duel-server-map/

In anticipation of an answer to that, I say get started! Make a map with an awesome tavern and a small outdoor area, so the revelry can spill out under the moon.
