Game Balance Discussion / cavalry & dropping weapons on impact
« on: August 11, 2014, 06:06:35 pm »
Mounted combat in Warband always felt kind of strange and artificial to me. Weapons hitting horses or humans at very high speeds seem to just warp through them.
In reality the power of the impact would at least knock the weapon out of the user's hands or even break it.

How about making weapons in c-rpg behave in a similar way?

If the stab's damage speed bonus is too large the weapon would be dropped. Some polearms such as pike or long spear could be excluded from this, to emphasize their anti-cav specialisation.

Historical Discussion / Lances
« on: August 05, 2014, 06:28:32 pm »
So I am wondering what actually happened to lances after a knight hit someone with it. Did they always break upon impact?
I know the jousting lances were purposely hollowed out, but what about lances like this

?
Would the rider be able to pull it out of the enemy's body and use it again if it didn't break?

Suggestions Corner / A few suggestions
« on: May 14, 2013, 06:00:15 pm »
Warband combat system further enhanced by c-rpg features is great, however I've come up with some suggestions that might make it  more interesting if implemented.

- Make weapons only deal damage with the actual blade/point

I've found it really wierd that I can hurt people with my bec de corbin even when I'm really close to them, and during the swing, the actual spike of the weapon ended up behind them, not even touching them. My suggestion is to make hits with wepaons wooden shafts' or swords' hilts deal reduced blunt damage instead.

- Tweak two handed swords' halfswording mode.

Halfswording is a technique that lets a fighter use his two handed sword in a situation when there is very little space (for example in hand to hand combat, or when attacked by an enemy with a shield). Unfortunetaly in c-rpg it has little use. I think that first of all the wpf that is used in that mode needs to be changed to 2h. Secondly the sideswings should be faster than the normal mode, but deal less damage. Another change should be concerning the time to swtich between the modes. Currently it takes way too long. Also the damage on normal mode 2h stab should be reduced. That way it will be possible to choose between long range, but weak, or short, but powerful stab.

- Bow reloading.

Something that I would really like to see changed in the current game is the way archers reload their bows. I believe the rolad should be similar to the one crossbows use. What I mean is that, an archer should be able to put an arrow on the string of the bow, ready to be released when he wants to.
If he decides to shoots, he pulls the string and releases the arrow. Moving wiht an arrow on the string would be possible, but the speed could be reduced a little.

- Add sounds for characters wearing armour

IRL moving around in plate or mail armour can be quite noisy.

I think adding some sounds for movement in armour would greatly improve the immersion of the game.

Please go ahead and post your opinions about these suggestions :)
