Historical Discussion / Weight of swords...
« on: May 16, 2011, 06:54:53 pm »
This may belong in historic discussion but I figured a wider audience might be more interested.

The other day there was a heated discussion on NA Siege where some ignorant bloke was saying that a flamberge weighed like 40 lbs or something preposterous. He got torn a new one by several people but he also had a few supporters. Out of curiosity I googled that shit and found these articles. They are kinda long winded for the internet crowd but if you just read the intro and skim theres a lot of good stuff there. As well as ample proof that medieval swords were light balanced and very practical.

You can keep an arrow nocked with one hand easily, so the moved speed should be the same as when blocking or holding an attack IMO.

Also if you dont know what I mean you hold the bow in the left hand and your index hold the arrow shaft. I have done this with some cheap recurves when I was younger and did some archery.

Strategus General Discussion / What is this?

What is this fabled strategus? How does it work? What is the point (other than to have fun and own n00bs etc....)? Why did it end? I joined when warband went on sale so this is all before my time.

Thanks in advance

Suggestions Corner / Light Heraldic Armour

This stems from another thread, but I am curious to see some number from active forum members. I personally would like to see something in the 20's for a bad 1x streak but still fit in with my buddies who all wear the same badge.

I like the current selections, but I think rather than changing them add a leather heraldic offering.

What do you guys think about adding a cut thrust though, I think it would be interesting.

I just like having the option to do it. And if you take the time to look its actually a common technique to stab with this sword. But different strokes for different folks as they say, pun intended. And I have, and use it, and like but I would like more if I stab people in the chest with it occasionally.

Its pointy as hell, it should have thrust damage. I can see it is curved but its barely curved just nerf its cut if balance would be effected.

It looks like it can stab so it should be able imo. Also a thought I had cause it is wide tipped is add a cut thrust so its no good against say plate and mail but leather and cloth should easily be stabbed by it.

Cheers

This is all good stuff thanks guys, I will have to consider but I think I am liking the torp build but I do agree with less shield skill and + iron flesh.

Thanks all
