Hi. I wanted to share yet another possible solution to ranged population. As you might have known - I vouch for reducing the amount of ammo any ranged can carry.

I suggest to make all current ammo items 1 slot instead of 0 and add small 0 slot variants (having around 50% of ammo count and having the same stats).

For instance:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login



Impact:
Hybrid crossbowmen will have less ammo. Arbalest users will have maximum of 10 steel bolts (15 bolts without weapon). Was 16 (24 without weapon).

Archers will have a reason to use 0 slot weapons + smaller bows will have a benefit of being 2 slot. Archers with 3 slot bows will have maximum of 29 bodkin arrows (40 arrows without weapon). Was 36 (54 without weapon) and free slot.

All the ranged will have to loom new item if they want to use 0 slot alternative of it alongside their usual arrows.

Ranged players will have to actually care to aim better and collect&count their ammo. It will result in less ranged spam overall and less frustration in the end of the rounds because of ranged being full hp and having 20 arrows left to shoot the shit out of you.

Fully agreed. Allows the skilled ranged to flourish still whilst also making it sure that you have to genuinely take care with what you're shooting at to make sure you hit your shots.

The way people go on about ranged you would think its like this
Kinda, except in this case it's just one arrow to the head and you instantly die unless you're a pure strength build wearing nothing but full plate

I dont wear plate on any char I have and they dont die to 1 arrow unless I have already taken damage from other sources. Except on my runner/thrower who only wears stuff like mw tabard/surgeons coat but most of the time I dont even use a helm on him and dont see it as bad as you are painting it to be.

I like the idea of xbows being less ammo, but big damage. Wouldnt change much though as far as crying about ranged goes, but its a good gameplay decision.

yeah reinforce and encourage them to kite even more while looking for ammo, nice idea.

Necro post-- What were the original proposed stats?

I have been thinking about this for a while, and it's a bit more complicated than I thought, mostly concerning the correct slot values for the original weapons.

0 slot Steel Bolts: max ammo 4 (MW 5)

0 slot bodkins: max ammo 8 (MW 11)

Thanks, I have something that I have been working on to propose that's inspired by this thread, but the item stats are not quite finalized. I don't want it to be a nerf, but make hybridization make more sense with ammo and slots. Not going too well so far, tbh.

All of the stronger bows and crossbows at present already demand a sizable slot commitment (3-4).

Arbalest users will have maximum of 10 steel bolts
Even if you landed every shot (excluding headshot) you would end up spending 20-50% of your ammo on a single horse, or 20-30% of your ammo on a single player.

Reminder: Currently the steel bolt weight is twice as much per bolt than bodkins and has half the ammo capacity.

Hope those new quivers are cheaper, and weigh less for the ammo reduction. It totally won't lead to:
