Title: There was a village
Post by: New_Player_FTW on July 27, 2011, 09:35:45 pm
Long time ago, in the land of Gauls there was a village. The last gaul village defending from vast enemy army - Brigade. They took every other village in the region, and wanted to take the last. The Brigade attacked day after day. No matter how many troops they have gather the brave Gauls have defended the walls, wave after wave, attack by an attack. Firstly the conceited agressor attacked right away from march. The arrogant soldiers were surprised by the spirit of defenders. After hours twilight have seperated both hardly blooded sides. Next day the defenders also weren't given a moment of calmness. The relentless brigade attacked once more. This time they underestimated the defenders. The forces gathered of peasants, armed with axes and knifes firmly perfed the enemy back. Brigade was in rage. They agreed to took the village by a ruse. They wanted to attack in the middle of the night and just slaughter sleeping defender. However thanks to awarness of guards, the village was able to wake up and arm before Brigade soldiers entered the village. Once more the flag of free people flew above the camp.
Unfortunatly the next day shall be the hardest in the lives of all defenders. The army which gathered near the village tripled the amount of defenders. Black thoughts covered minds of the villagers. However they decided to fight, not to sell their lives for cheap price. The battle started. From start it was going in favor of Brigade. Better equiped and better organized army was close to kill every single defender.  In the last heroic effort villagers were able to push the enemy back, take over their commanding tent, and orientation flags. The village was once again saved. For how long though? The next attacks will surely come. It's the only matter of time. And defenders will be ready.

+1.

That village is just a bitch to take. Bravo to the defenders.

If you haven't seen it first hand I'd advise you to fire Dustiril up on the map editor and have a look. You will immediately see why it has given us many headaches.  We will get it eventually, and when we do I'm going to enjoy EVERY SECOND of defending that place.  :P

poor attackers got overrun and could not spawn fast enought to face defenders steamrolling towards the spawn with like 76 tickets left or so, epic to watch, felt bad for attackers :)

Game is broken.  What good is 1000 troops when you can't spawn more than ten tickets before the defenders take the flag?

I have to admit that the "Asterix & Obelix" stories came to my mind, too, when I heard of the repeated attacks that were repulsed. However it seems that the last attack was f*cked up by the low spawn rate.
I wish our allies better luck with their next attack. Unfortunately I retired yesterday and am only lvl 22 atm, otherwise I would apply to support you  :(

The fourth battle was really epic. I already thought that brave villagers was defeated, but the last charge saved Gaul Village again!
What is the reason of their invincibility? Well, probably that wise gaul knows:

This

The defender did not defend. They used the early spawn to attack the spawn point of the attacker.

The defender attack and the attacker defend...

Which is not true? If you try to take spawn before the start you get teleported back and the respawning time is the same for both teams. Where's the bug?
Title: Re: There was a village
Post by: Overdriven on July 28, 2011, 11:06:56 am
The respawn time isn't the same from what I've heard. Defenders can spawn more troops/sec than attackers can.

mostly the brigade of course cuz every body LUUUUVS signing up against us 24/7(why is that, do people really hate us that much?... wait don't answer that ), many many more... way too many! what's wrong with having the best ticket-conserving army win the day?

Working as intended. Both have the same respawn time. Merely the attacker spawn should be moved back a bit, but that wasn't deciding the latest match.

WHY chadz?  why do we need it? so many have been screwed over by this :!:

Post by: Gevlos on July 28, 2011, 11:25:14 am
it's never gonna be a steamroll for anybody if spawn can't be captured.

it's still about tactics if you want to conserve tickets. and we want to conserve tickets if I remember correctly. the slow spawn(for this village at least, made it impossible to use any tactic that wasn't about sitting on spawn.

and you don't need tactics to defeat villagers when the numbers are 10 to 1.
Title: Re: There was a village
Post by: Freland on July 28, 2011, 11:34:56 am
I think it was an entertaining fight and we made a tactical mistake and we were feeling too secure.

I only see one problem. If i remember correctly the attackers only have one spawn point so they have a massive disadvantage especially at the start when the defenders rush this spawn point. Attackers need at least three spawn pointwith the new slow respawning.
Or even better: Respawning rate should be connected with the ammount of troops.
Let's say Team a has 1000 people and Team B has 200 people. That's a 5:1 ratio and so I think team A sholud be able to spawn 5 people at once while team B should only be able to spawn 1.

Aww yea just get 1 big army and you'll spawn 30 per second and enemy spawns 1.
Title: Re: There was a village
Post by: Freland on July 28, 2011, 11:59:07 am
Well most of the times people wouldn't even have an advantage by the faster spawn rate because it's not like there are 5 people dying every second. It would just make it easier for the bigger force to gain control after they recapture their own spawn. Remember that the bigger army has more to lose in a battle which is decided by spawn capturing because they probably bought far more equipment which is all lost if your spawn gets captured. So there should be an advantage in having a lot of troops.

@Thovex: don't you think an army of 30000 should have an adavantage over an army with 1000 people? Because right now it hasn't if every fight gets decided by spawn capturing.

What is even more funny is that the last faction standing against UIF in last strat was the fallen, who was the Gauls at this time!!

I think it would be more accurate to say that the map is broken at this point. It is just impossible to use tactics because of that damn hill, it turns into defend the spawn every round. Even when we push and get an advantage almost making it to the top the walk back for people who have died takes twice as long as one defender making it back to the fray. The front line is gradually pushed back and back and back till it is spawn camping time.

As we learned that we couldn't take the village on tactics alone, we resorted to sheer numbers, only to be screwed by the new spawn rules. And yes that was a deciding factor, even more so because of that ungodly hill. However, don't get me wrong. I realize that it was def. not the only factor, and I'm not making any excuses. We have learned much from these battles, and it has been a very humbling experience. After all that being said, I don't even know anymore if I want the spawn moved back at all. I want to make sure that when we do eventually get it, the next person who decides to attack us at Dustiril goes through the same bullshit we had too.

What I don't understand though is why the defenders get 60 seconds to position themselves while the attackers do not? Are you implying that all attackers are derping into the town blindfolded with their thumbs firmly planted up their butts? Why shouldn't the attackers get time to organize as well?

Title: Re: There was a village

no point that makes sense is a bad one, so you can think like...

- villagers change the name of villages to dusturil to avoid further fallen attacks so ramsex can't choose any
- with the equipment and tactics like we showed in dusturil, every other village battle outcome will be dusturil like

- nurse, legio member etc. with wrong helmet just ironize what is left from fallen "war machine" after 5 dusturil charges (= nothing is left)

but if you don't get it, its not your, but comic's fault...
