Good Single-Player RPG?
« on: October 19, 2013, 01:48:12 am »

As the title says I'm looking for a good single player RPG. Ever since Skyrim left me quite unsatisfied I've been on the hunt for something that would fill the hole Skyrim could not (heh) with no luck. Any suggestions?

PS: Most big titles like Skyrim, Witcher 2, Deus Ex, etc I've already tried. Spent countless hours looking for something with little to no luck.

PPS: If possible, though it's rather specific, I really like the idea of being a single person more powerful than the rest, supernatural, while the rest of the world is based in reality. Really like that setting. Think Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines.

PPPS: Awhile back in a thread similar to this someone was suggesting these open world third person shooters with slight RPG elements, done by Russian devs if I recall correctly. Can't remember the name of them for the life of me, anyone know what I'm talking about?

Played through it extensively already, and went back to it with mods and such. Great game though.

Gothic maybe? If you haven't played it, the first two games might feel too outdated to you. Gothic 3, however, still feels polished enough and it is one great extensive game. Combat is a bit unforgiving and difficult though but you will find your way. Gothic 4 (Arcania) I don't recommend at all. It is what Diablo 3 has been to the Diablo series for Gothic.

I believe you're referring to the STALKER games, though they aren't third person. http://www.stalker-game.com/

Of those I've personally only played Call of Pripyat. I enjoyed it though, especially with decent mods!

Gothic series, Risen series, Two Worlds series, Divinity II...

Personally I would start with Risen but Gothic 3 is fine choice as well.

I think whatever else I may throw at you will also be in vain. You are probably in the same kind of mood as me. Having already played all the notable ones, I have been looking for a great new single player sandbox rpg for long as well. And just like you, I was nowhere near satisfied with damn Skyrim.

Most german RPGs are made in similar fashion. There's also game called Venetica with female protagonist but I wouldn't recommend it.

You guys will have to wait for Dragon Age 3 or Witcher 3. Those two games fit the profile perfectly.

Edit: Actually I forgot, there's game called Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning.

Also Dark Souls but I'm pretty sure everyone tried it so far.

Already thrashed Amalur. Venetica is just too stale. I'm excited for Witcher 3 but I say hell no to Dragon Age. I tried the first game, uninstalled after half an hour and never touched the second. I realize that they are doing something different with the 3rd game but my hopes are lower than slim for it.

I like Dark Souls and am looking forward to the second.

Thanks for the effort anyway Leshma.

Yeah already tried Amalur, was decent but started to feel like an mmorpg I was playing all alone after awhile, too grindy. Loved Dark Souls, Demon's Souls is one of my favorite games of all times. Stoked for the next in the series.

This is killing me, what was the name of these games? I don't know if it was Russian but it was some sort of different ethnicity, but I do think it was Russian. It had two games in the series I believe. Was set in modern times I think. Ughhh this is killing me. Think it was ported over here by fans.

Not so modern timeline, but do you probably mean Konung?

Edit: Oh, you are looking for a shooter. That's not a shooter at all.
