Poll for NA Players - Which Maps Do Not Play Well on NA2?

WHICH MAPS DO NOT PLAY WELL ON NA2?

----------------------

Long story short, the relatively low pop on NA2 (although it has been strangely rising in the last couple days) makes some maps play poorly due to their size and flow.
Here is a short list of the maps in the current rotation that I have selected as possible candidates to be removed from the NA2 rotation due to their flow with the average NA2 population.

Vote on as many as you like, the ones with the most votes are more likely to get removed.
This information will be fed to Fips/Teeth.

NOTE - Poll is for NA players only please.

Below are names and screenshots that correlate with the poll options.

Windhill Castle

If there are others that you would like voted on, please post that information below and they may be added.

 Things to think about are - does this map not play well on NA2 as a whole because of the lower average population?
 Do not suggest maps or vote on them merely because you "do not like them"

I haven't played siege in a while, but there was a map where the door to the flag was backwards and opened from the outside. That map was pretty bad imo.

all the broken maps are being reworked and are NOT in rotation. That being said the map you are referencing has been fixed (the desert map with the innerwall and outerwall open/close big doors)

Good to hear. It seemed like a good map apart from that and being able to jump from the outer wall to the inner wall.

Wat. Care to share what maps you are fixing with the scene management?

Not sure what he is talking about Fips...maybe the list of maps you have in the "Need to be fixed" category in your map cycle thread.

Ridoma and Windhill are probably 2 of the best maps nowadays... I didn't vote for jammadi, but it really isn't the best either. Hrafninn, Burg, and Helms Deep really need to go, though.

Agreed entirely, although I don't even recognize Windhill from the screenshot.  Hrafninn, Burg and Helms are just awful, I'd love to see them get replaced.

I think all these are ok cept Helms Deep.
What happened to the old Helms Deep?  That one was better.

Anyways, you forgot to add a "none" option just in case.

THanks!

Windhill Castle is THE shit. It's a great balance of direct assault with  stealth/sneaky snail options.

I've fought on it with both relatively few players, as well as when the NA2 started filling up. It has a good pace, and notable chokepoints, while maintaining a courtyard large enough to appease the open combat aspect of battle.

The other castles are alright, but can't really bring the pace that Windhill manages to achieve.

If you don't think any of these should go, just don't vote :)

You should be able to click "View results" to see what has been voted on.
So far it seems people are agreeing that Burg Rabenstein and Helms Deep do not play well on NA2 as a whole.

sounds good. Hope some of the bugs from the stone-ages (like dat wooden castle where defenders can't open the doors to the flagroom from outside...) are being squashed as well.

Apart from that: many maps are frowned upon simply because they are new, have some glitches (that are new as well - got used to the old glitches and know how to handle them), and people just do not know how to play them so they become fun.

Maps in the poll are all ok for me (well, Helms Deep is  a bit meh with less than 200 people...) - but would it be possible to make a "conditional rotation", e.g. "if player_count < 50 skip Helms_Deep".

Otherwise: just fix bugs, most maps are ok as soon as there are more than 30 people on.

I posted this in another thread, but here are a few maps that you didn't list that I think should be removed:

Almerra Castle
(click to show/hide)
The incline causes attackers to have to slowly tiptoe for like 30 seconds to get to a ladder/door, which is really boring. And after the first round, no one wants to beat on the door for the whole round. The left ingress route (go up ladder, jump off roof onto walls) is rarely used, so this map usually devolves into attackers going up the right ladder to a painful maul/archer death. One of the least fun maps for anyone that isn't an archer. Often defenders will just sally forth to the main gate, because that's one of the most effective choke points, and attackers still have to waste like 15-20 seconds just climbing up the hill to get there.

Native Hailes Castle
(click to show/hide)
This map is boring to attack and defend. Attackers have to spend too much time trudging uphill, and the most effective ingress point is the one that requires the most trudging. The only viable tactic for defenders when the population is less than 60 (i.e. all the time on NA2) is just sit in the gatehouse and wait, which "pubbies" never do. When a banner stack/etc does have the discipline to sit in the gatehouse, it's a hopeless murder tunnel for attackers.

Holmet Castle
(click to show/hide)
This one just has too many doors to break (1-3 for every ingress route). Beating on doors for half the round is boring. Defenders can't open/close the doors to their own flag from outside, so nearly every time attackers win, a bunch of defenders are watching helplessly through the flag doors, raging.

Of the ones you listed, Burg and Helms are the worst, IMHO.

I think Windhill is one of the funnest maps, what flaws do you see with it? Always epic fights on the wide stairs to flag and the narrow walkway above the flag (this is my favorite place to shield shove people to their death as well).
